I think I had a similar list at your age except for I had been on like one of the Main Street vehicles, the monorail a couple times and TSI once.

There are some notable Disneyland experiences missing on that list. I’ve said it many times but TSI is a gem. It took a child to get me to go back though. The monorail, particularly as it winds through Fantasyland/ TL on you re way into Disneyland is full of old school DL charm.
If Tom Sawyer Island still had Fort Wilderness, it would be as much a must-do for me as Mr. Lincoln. Without the Fort, I just have a hard time seeing what's over there, quite honestly.

As a non AP and someone your age without kids, I can see where you re coming from. Regardless, I still enjoy it for the nature and peace and quiet. Nice change of pace from the crowds.

TSI is definitely something easier to appreciate for its history than for what's actually there (kind of like the subs, actually). It'd be a lot better if they got rid of the now-irrelevent POTC junk and went back to how it used to be.

Florida and Tokyo still have tourable forts on their TSI's.

If by history you mean a reminder of what it used to be like at DL when you weren’t elbow to elbow with people I agree. Otherwise, I actually enjoy it for what is there. Being able to let your toddler off the “leash” and just run around the bridges, trees and shade without the worry of a stampede running him over is nice. Even if I’m not quite limber enough for some of those tight areas in the caves.

Kind of ****es me off that I never got to go on Mission to Mars considering I was 10 years old when it closed and had been to Disneyland numerous times. I didn’t even know it existed.

I never rode Mission to Mars either, but I did ride Flight to the Moon as a kid. At my age then, I was impressed. I mostly remember the animatronic Mission Control preshow and the moving seats. It must have been my first simulator experience.

Fair enough. I find the island that exists now a confused mess of different themes and a little bland. Of course, I am neither a parent nor the target audience, but the WDW version feels less tamed by the lawyers and feels relatively more preserved. By comparison, my perception of DL's is that it is very watered down in it's current state.

But as you know, I can't ever stop the comparisons; that's just the way my brain is wired. It's undoubtedly making it difficult for me to see the value of what is there (see also Tarzan's Treehouse). I do appreciate its presence and I do hope it stays in some form forever.

I can't speak for Tokyo's, but it is allegedly a carbon copy of what DL's used to be, which intrigues me. If nothing else, DL's is leagues better than what they have in Hong Kong, where you take the rafts across the river (in this case, the river is part of the Jungle Cruise) to reach...Tarzan's Treehouse, unchanged from DL's other than some minor rock work on the approach with nothing else there at all!

The main cave is worth experiencing: a mini walk-through adventure. It’s actually better now than it originally was. That is, if all the effects are still working.

I remember reading that about their JungLe Cruise/ “ROA”/ Treehouse situation. That sounds terrible! Getting on a raft to go to the Treehouse is very anticlimactic but then again when the park opened they didn’t have that many rides so I guess people were actually doing it.

I only went to pre Pirates TSI once when I was really young so the pirate overlay doesn’t bother me too much even though I’m sure I’d prefer it in its original incarnation.

I wish I could experience Disneyland in its first few decades. Did you get to ride Mine Train Thru Nature’s Wondeland / Rainbow Caverns?

That was a big miss not bringing back a Rainbow cavern cave show scene when they redid the DLRR.

It was a nice idea on paper and it does look good from the riverfront, but it was obviously one of those ideas where they ran out of money.

Disney+ added Schoolhouse Rock. Another check in the “keep subscription” column.

Funny— I’d really been looking forward to HBO Max, but it’s such a complete cluster of incompleteness right now that it’s got no value for me. And I HATE the grotesque new Looney Tunes. Open the complete classic film vault wide and we’ll talk, HBO Max. I already own nearly all your entire stingy “hand-selected” mini-library.

It doesn’t look bad at all. It’s better than the alternative - no body of water. The Jungle Cruise ride experience I’d imagine suffers greatly from this setup though.

Is Shangai the only castle park with no significant body of water. Or does the Pirate Cove area count?

It only looks like RoA from this end. Once you get past the Treehouse, the river narrows it becomes more like regular Jungle Cruise. The contrast works really well and looks even better at night. It's my favourite version of the ride, despite being shorter than Tokyo or Florida. :)

Interesting. In that case I can see how it could actually add to the experience.

The first time I rode Big Thunder when it opened, I was greatly disappointed that there was so little going on in the show scenes. Still loved the ride, but I’ve distrusted concept art ever since.

I’ve ranted before about my love for Nature’s Wonderland and how its loss really took away Frontierland’s depth (imagine Adventureland stripped of Jungle Cruise). Big Thunder was a necessary addition, but they really missed a chance to fold the best of Nature’s Wonderland into the experience.
