There isn't a censored version.
Sure there is: The version that used to air on the Disney Channel heavily edited the severed heads scene to remove every shot of the headless witch rising and pursuing Dorothy. They also removed the dialogue about the doctor’s failed shock therapy patients, and removed a shot during the Gnome King’s attempt to eat Jack Pumpkinhead.

What a delightful children’s movie! :D I was almost certain Disney+ was going to play the butchered version.

The season 6 "Lost Episodes" are pretty good too especially the Yoda arc. Head right into Rebels when you are done.
I swear Dave Filoni is the only one that knows how Star Wars is suppose to work.
Looking forward to the next season. Season 5 had a few "dud" episodes too, but the last story arc and the Mandalore arc (epic sith battle!) were very good.

I plan to watch Rebels, too. Also for the first time. :)

Interesting. I had no idea they had a censored version. I wonder if the new blu ray I purchased a few years ago was censored. Probably not. I can’t remember the gnome king trying to eat Jack though.

We are watching it now and comparing it to our DVD , no differences we have noticed. I remember the Gnome King trying to eat Jack. He had the chicken in his head and an egg rolled out and into the mouth of the King which poisoned and killed him.

Ah of course! I couldn’t picture it because I was envisioning the gnome king at his throne not when he is a huge monster

Dude. Okay, some of the characters take a bit of getting used to, and then you find they’re really charming. Y’know, kinda like giant mice & ducks? :D

Efteling is a huge, wonderful park in the Netherlands with a long history (which it embraces in wonderful ways). The park is themed to European legends & fairy tales, as well as their own original cast of medieval characters featured on tv shows, stage musicals and—most recently—a huge trackless dark ride called Symbolica. (That guy in the video is Pardoes, court jester to King Pardulfus).

The park combines very old hand-crafted mechanical attractions like their vast Fairy Tale Forest (home of Long Neck) and modern thrills (most with fantastic theming) and wonderful dark rides.

I encourage you to check out some youtube travel vlogs of the park (Theme Park Worldwide has a bunch of good ones) and the park’s own youtube channel full of POV’s, making-of documentaries, full musical shows (Sprookjessprokkelaar is fantastic!!!) and even episodes of the Pardoes tv show.

There’s a LOT of depth, history and outstanding creativity to Efteling. Give it a chance! :)
Where the heck is this freakish scary nightmarish park located at? those characters are ugly. like a wax museum with a pulse.

As a hardcore Disney Theme Park fan and very fond of Efteling since the early 2010s (probably one of the very few American users very familiar with that park). It's time for me to finally pull out a list of Efteling History for the non-Dutch out there (via Eftelpedia).

(Pulls out list)
(Clear throat) Eftelpedia has the complete history behind their mascot (Pardoes) and his creator Henny Knoet. However, the site's in Dutch so I recommend Google Translate. Pardoes actually has his own lore going back to his debut in 1989.

Henny Knoet

Pardoes

A page from Eftelpedia about the characters from Pardoes/Symbolica.

And a live-action TV series that aired on Nickelodeon in 2011.

(catches breath)

And that's only about the parks mascot and lore. We hadn't even got to the history of "FairyTale Forest" (Sprookjesbos) and the character brand "Sprookjesboom" from 2008.

Did I mention the Efteling and Disney Parks community get along very well with each other (especially from the Disneyland Paris side)?

Characters are still creepy.

We are almost to that part now! There’s just something about a Rock king in ruby slippers!
Just watched it again. Despite its flaws and things that might have been done differently... this is a pretty fantastic movie. Gotta admire the director for having a vision and sticking to it. I can’t imagine the reactions of the execs during the first viewing! :D

i just remembered that when the Disney Channel first aired it, they ran a promo ad that warned, “Dorothy returns to a darker Oz.” And that was on top of already censoring it! :D

Oz was always pretty dark. The books are a far cry from the MGM musical version. They are creepy and sometimes terrifying. Return to Oz did a great job at capturing the feel of those books.

I think the movie’s only real issue is its refusal to counterbalance the sadness and darkness with any real joy or humor. It’s grim right up until its final moments. There’s some charm with Tik Tok and the Gump, but it’s not nearly enough. (Jack’s creepy and Belina’s annoying). The books balanced their dark elements with lots of humor and whimsy; this film needed more of that.

That said, Return to Oz is still a great, lovingly made, scary family movie. I think Coraline is the only other one that even comes close in that category.

I'd have to include Something Wicked This Way Comes to that list. Who wouldn't want to ride the carousel forwards and backwards?
Disney used to make scary family movies. Now they make scary theme park decisions.

Thank goodness that Donald Duck costume was only used for the Ice Capades and for a brief period at Disneyland in the 50s. It looked worse in color as seen in these two pictures.

And this photo showing some of the costumes with their heads off. (Mickey and Chip)

This photo would not fly nowadays, since Disney forbids videos/photos of the characters either undressed or with their heads off. I remember the 10th Anniversary TV special showed one of the CMs removing the Dwarfs heads.
