We were on vacation on Oahu in '77, so we stood in line in the rain in Honolulu for the first one.
That will disappear as soon as you hit 40.I have this weird thing where I can remember every movie theatre I saw a particular movie in. Does anybody else do that?
However controversial Song of the South may be, I simply adore the background paintings. View attachment 470489
A lot of the 50-60s Disney live action stuff was a slog. I guess you just had to be there to appreciate it.The music and the animation are spectacular. The live action stuff is an absolute slog to get through, though Baskett and Driscoll are absolutely delightful.
When I first looked at that I'm like when did Mel Brooks write a reboot novel of World War Z, lol.So, I'm reading World War Z and enjoying it. I like how they go into interview style reporting on how the plague started. So far much better than the movie. Anyone else read it?
Max Brooks is his son. When I first looked at that I'm like when did Mel Brooks write a reboot novel of World War Z, lol.
Yes I'm aware, which is why it was funny.Max Brooks is his son.
So the Jellicle's came out to play this weekend, nice.Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Shows-Must-Go-On Youtube channel is showing the filmed *stage* version of “Cats” all weekend starting now. So if you’re at all curious about what Cats is *supposed* to be (as opposed to the well-intentioned but disastrous recent movie), well here ya go! No disturbing CGI! No celebrities! Just a troupe of talented performers in really imaginative costumes! Practical effects! Humor that works! Sure, it’s still a nonsensical freak show, but at least this version is lovable and an accurate record of a stage phenomenon. Sue me—I love the songs.
I really like Efteling’s new video re: what guests should expect when the theme park reopens. Realistic, but upbeat, it straightforwardly says “We know you’re used to *this*, but we can’t do that right now. And, yes, it sucks and we know you’re disappointed, BUT we’re all fighting this virus together and we can still have fun if we follow these safety guidelines.”
When the kid got the magic wand near the beginning, I at first thought they were saying they’d added a bunch of Potter-like interactive magic to make up for the lack of character greets, but, no, it was just a clever visual metaphor for fighting the virus...
Love it. It’s so Efteling!
Dude. Okay, some of the characters take a bit of getting used to, and then you find they’re really charming. Y’know, kinda like giant mice & ducks?Where the heck is this freakish scary nightmarish park located at? those characters are ugly. like a wax museum with a pulse.
As long as I can get a burger there, I will be sound as a pound. but my god those characters aint no Looney Tunes or Disney characters. They look like rejected concepts for The Never Ending Story.Dude. Okay, some of the characters take a bit of getting used to, and then you find they’re really charming. Efteling is a huge, wonderful park in the Netherlands with a long history (which it embraces in wonderful ways). The park is themed to European legends & fairy tales, as well as their own original cast of medieval characters featured on tv shows, stage musicals and—most recently—a huge trackless dark ride called Symbolica. (That guy in the video is Pardoes, court jester to King Pardulfus).
The park combines very old hand-crafted mechanical attractions like their vast Fairy Tale Forest (home of Long Neck) and modern thrills (most with fantastic theming) and wonderful dark rides.
I encourage you to check out some youtube travel vlogs of the park (Theme Park Worldwide has a bunch of good ones) and the park’s own youtube channel full of POV’s, making-of documentaries, full musical shows (Sprookjessprokkelaar is fantastic!!!) and even episodes of the Pardoes tv show.
There’s a LOT of depth, history and outstanding creativity to Efteling. Give it a chance!
I felt the same way when I first saw them...but after I saw them in context with their background stories, they grew on me. And, hey, they’re no freakier than this:As long as I can get a burger there, I will be sound as a pound. but my god those characters aint no Looney Tunes or Disney characters. country bears look like the care bears compared to the park you just showed me.I felt the same way when I first saw them...but after I saw them in context with their background stories, they grew on me. And, hey, they’re no freakier than this:
