The Miscellaneous Thought Thread

I put off papers to the last minute as well. I'm driving to USC to use the library the last weekend before a paper was due (I was at an extension master's program off campus). As I got closer, I was wondering why all these cars had USC and UCLA stickers. It was the day of the USC/UCLA football game! Parking was a mess.

Speaking of Dolittle, the trailer for the new version with RDJ is now out.

I doubt it will be as charming as the 60s musical.
Was unaware of the RDJ version until now. The news filled me with dread... but then I watched the trailer. I’m hopeful. All the elements are there. It seems to be taking its inspiration from the books instead of past films. We can hear the animals talking to him (the lack of which really hurts the musical), but it’s not tacky-awful like the Eddie Murphy version. I just hope it’s jollier and more playful than the all-serious tone of the trailer suggests. Oh please, please, please let it be a good film. The world needs a gentle, fun, wise Dr. Dolittle movie right about now.

Random question: I was never around to see the Monsanto House of the Future I have only ever really seen pictures and video, could someone who has been tell me what they felt while inside, like did it truly feel like it could be something you would live in, or did it always just feel like some sort of display of a concept that would never realistically happen. I can never know if it really felt cramped in there or actually comfortable to live in or even if it felt too sterile to be a home. Just a true miscellaneous thought I had while finishing up the work day.

Edit: I love retro futurism and I think it would be so cool to see a neighborhood made up of Houses of the Future. It would be cool to see them add multiple stories to more expensive homes for larger families, or maybe see homes where each little section stemming from the middle kind of bulged out at the end into a little nook. Also are there any cabinets that exist that slide down and in sort of layers like the ones in the house in the future? I am sure some exist it is not a concept unique to the House of the Future but I would be interested to see ones that function just like the ones in the House of the Future, sliding down from inside the ceiling so you have free space to see through to the rest of the house while they are pushed up. Okay wow this post got incredibly long about a my question(s) about the House of the Future sorry for this random wall of text.

For everyone interested in Gus’s Fried Chicken (especially @mickEblu 😉), here is some of their food!

View attachment 358881

Finally tried Gus’s last night! It was delicious!! My sister scared me when we got there and said “it’s hot chicken.” Which it is not. It’s just classic fried chicken with a kick. My only complaint is that it could have came out a little hotter but we were a large party and they waited for all our food to be ready fo serve us. Next time I’ll tell them to bring food out as it’s ready or go with a smaller party.

I had the half chicken with beans and coleslaw. All the sides were great but the Mac n cheese could have been hotter too. Surprisingly (for a dark meat guy) the breast was my favorite piece of chicken. That bad boy really locked in the heat and it was super moist yet crispy on the outside. We also tried the fried okra, fried green tomatoes and fried pickles. We enjoyed them all except the latter. I just don’t think I’m a fried pickle person especially when they re thick spears instead of slices.

Pecan pie was delicious!

Thanks for the recommendation!
