This isnt going to be like The Simpsons where they hyped it up to be something awesome and then it ends up being the worst thing in the world, is it?
I sure hope not. Fortunately, Nintendo is very involved in this project, and they know this is a huge chance to introduce non-gamers to their world. If nothing else, the Mario Kart and DK rides are trying something new. From the rumors, I'm both intrigued and a bit concerned about Mario Kart-- Each screen "room" containing 3 controllable motion base cars racing side by side on a mild centrifuge to provide actual G-forces... plus AR goggles... I just hope it doesn't make people hurl. :D

Wonder why they would care if non-gamers are introduced to their world?

Nintendo seems to have finally realized that--over the last 30 years--they've built up this huge library of marketable characters, and even though the Switch game console is a huge hit, they want to spread out a bit more into other media so all their eggs aren't in one basket. In addition to the Universal lands, they've got a Sony Animation Mario movie in the works for 2020.

Oh boy. A Sony Animation movie? I wonder if that will be as riveting as The Emoji Movie, or The Smurfs? :bored:

To me, that kind of move just weakens the product. But, honestly, what do I know?

I agree, Sony's made some real turkeys. As a Nintendo fan, I'm nervous... BUT, Sony also made Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, which is the ONE film of theirs that I absolutely love. And Mario's "Dad," Shigeru Miyamoto, is co-writing the screenplay, which makes me hopeful. Hey, it can't possibly turn out worse than the live action Mario atrocity Disney released in the 90's, right? (Bob Hoskins, bless you, it wasn't your fault and no one blames you!)

Bob Hoskins can do wrong since he played Eddie Valiant

Movies based on video games typically do terrible unless it's Tomb Raider or Wreck it Ralph.
I'm hoping the Mario games' likeable characters and light-hearted self-aware style of fantasy will translate to film better than most other games. One thing every fan is discussing, though: What are they going to do about the voices??? Charles Martinet is great in the games as Mario, but I cannot imagine listening to Mario talking like that for an entire feature film!

If there's anyone who loves the ET ride more than @Kira Nerys it's Steven Spielberg. He collects 2% of ticket revenue and 5.25% of concessions from Universal Orlando and Japan or something crazy like that. But if he decides to pull out, Universal will have to pay him a billion or so upfront with some other consequences that I guess they don't want. And apparently he's threatened to pull out if they replace the ET ride. Super Nintendo World is being built adjacent.

Yet he couldn't even be bothered to properly film the 20th anniversary preshow with E.T. rather than crudely combining separate footage where they aren't even making eye contact. But I guess that just makes it even more charming.

Alice in Blackpool uses painted safety railings and those look way better than what Disney has done.
I disagree on this one. The Blackpool Alice Exterior looks industrial. I'm not a huge fan of the DL Alice safety railings, having grown up loving the no-fence version that not one single person ever fell off of, but at least they tried to make it fit in. If you want Alice to look like a parking ramp at Ikea, then, yeah, Blackpool got it spot on.

I am talking about Disney's choice to widen Alice in Wonderland's outdoor vine path instead of add railings to it. And how that would have looked better. It doesn't even look to be a vine anymore.
