The Miscellaneous Thought Thread

I'll wait till it's on DVD if I watch it. After Endgame, I feel the MCU has been wrapped up enough for me. Yeah, I'm sure Far From Home sets up something else, but the story of the MCU has been told and anything more they do will feel tacked on as far as I'm concerned. I've said it before and I'll say it again, the franchise financially peaked with Endgame. We'll never see that success for the MCU again and it'll just continue to go down in numbers.
Like I said Spider-Man: Far from Home addresses some of your complaints about the MCU version not being "Spider-Man".

I like how you have determined (and said it over and over again in many threads) the MCU is only the Thanos story and that's it, and everything else is just tacked on. That is like saying you peaked in high school and everything that comes after is just tacked on (well maybe for you that really is true).

Its not like Marvel has this huge library of characters and stories to pull from or anything.

Just so you know, the U in MCU means Universe. Meaning its larger than one story arc, its a whole universe of stories.

In all honesty I'm pretty sure you need an engineering/design/art background to do anything at WDI.

But what do I know.
That's the start of the problem. They're higher engineers to an artist's job and artists who don't know anything about art! What WDI needs is historians who understand the "why's?" of the world.

Just to give a quick example of what I mean, look at Main Street USA. Why does it work? Is it because it's a charming small town that reflects classic American ideas? Partially. But, more practically, Main Street USA works because millions of farmers moved to California during the Great Depression due to the Dust Bowl. These farmers grew up in these small turn of the century towns just like Walt Disney. Come around to the 1950's and Disneyland opens, now these farmers visit this brand new park in Anaheim and are reminded of their childhoods back in Middle America when life was simpler.

Obviously that's not the only reason Main Street works, and obviously not the reason it works today, but it explains why it was built how it was. Main Street was not built as an entrance to Disneyland simply because it was Walt's childhood, but because people shared that experience.

If my high school year consisted of me earning over 2.5 billion dollars, it'd be very likely I peaked there. I'll make a bet that no movie from the MCU ever beats Endgame. Loser has to make a post saying they're a codfish.

Well first, if you earned 2.5 Billion in HS and you peaked, then you're doing it wrong. No successful Billionaire stops trying to earn more money.

Second, it took 11 years and 22 movies to get to this point, for a total of over 20 Billion worldwide before Endgame hit theaters. That is an average of almost a Billion per movie. So will the MCU have another film that beats Endgame, yes. No one thought Titanic or even Avatar would ever be beaten, and yet one has fallen and the other is only about 15 Million away (its first run has already been beaten).

So yes it may take another 11 years and 22 movies, but Endgame will be beaten. All movies get beaten eventually, it might just take awhile.

But sorry to say I'm not going to take that bet, because I don't want to wait around just to prove you wrong.

I'm not a coward, you're showing your age a lot today on these boards. Goading me by calling me a coward isn't going to do anything.

I'm just smart enough to know that I'm not going to be posting on this board forever. So why make a bet unless I'm going to see it through.

So that means the Avengers coaster will be "good" as well then... Hey something to look forward to.

No more like the Avengers coaster might be on life support. Lol.

Do they think “we spent 1.5 billion dollars and we didn’t have a hit so scrap the coaster? Or do they think “ we missed the mark, let’s try something different?”

I’m not sure at this point one has anything to do with the other. I’d like to think each project is independent of the other for now. I may think different after next month however.

The author was Danish, yes, but the original film wasn’t set in Denmark. Eric’s kingdom, which is in any case an unplaceable fantasy realm, has a Mediterranean rather than Nordic feel, as John Musker himself explains in the video commentary:

“That exterior of the palace Roland Wilson designed. He was a great draftsman; he designed the prince’s palace. He did a drawing that we loved that combined these sort of Mediterranean elements, uh, made it a palace unlike any other sort of Disney fairy tale palace, and uh, with the white-washed stucco, and was really going for a warm, southern Mediterranean feel that he thought would be attractive to a mermaid who had been stuck all her life in the cold ocean.”

Not sure where you’re going with this? Because they used this architecture should they have casted a different actress to set it in the Mediterranean?

It still does not change anything about what I was trying to say. The fact is that Ariel is a very established character. Companies that have established IPs protect them because they resonate with the public. That connection is worth $$$. Disney has made a fool of themselves with how they are going about this. On their Freeform platform they are calling anyone who disagrees with this casting racists. On their ShopDisney they are hawking pricy Redhaired Ariel dolls and other merchandise to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the animated movie. You know the movie with the character the public loves and has bought merchandise from...but now is racist to want to look the way she was created. They could have avoided this by making a new character and story if they wanted her to be a mermaid. I’d be annoyed I wasn’t getting my redhaired pale Ariel movie but I’d be happy that they were making a new mermaid story. I’m tired of this being made into something it’s not. People love iconic characters. Period. Halle is gorgeous and has a great voice but I still think they should have done something else. Make her Tiana or even better build a new princess around her and she can be the Jodi Benson of that story.

Agree except for Halle being gorgeous. She seems sweet and talented but I wouldn’t say gorgeous. Even if Ariel from the 1989 Little Mermaid was a black woman/girl I’d be disappointed with the casting choice. Kind of like Emma Watson as Belle.

I mean, they’re real women rather than idealised cartoon characters, and they both look pretty gorgeous to me.

Well obviously they re not doll face cartoon characters with huge beautiful eyes, I just think their had to be better choices out there. Looks aside, Watson can’t even sing.
