Over at the WDW forum there is a rumor of a possible Indy boat ride going to DHS with Shanghai pirates tech. Which got me thinking I want some of that tech at DLR. Specifically the ride system. I know we ll be getting some cool new stuff with Battle Escape but I think a boat ride at DCA with Shanghai Pirates tech would be great for the park. The question is where would it go and what IP would it be based on?

Drain the Nemo Lagoon and put in a proper 20,000 Leagues attraction.

They can start a new Pixar franchise: Boats.

And I NEVER want DL's PoC replaced by the Shanghai version. This is the one case where DL really should function as a theme park museum. There will never again be as epic an AA-based attraction as DL's Pirates. Those AA's--and that unique experience-- need to be preserved.

I know the Shanghai ride is spectacular, but has anyone else noticed it's oddly devoid of... pirates? It's got monsters. It's got the undead. It's got fish people. It has Captain Octopus. But aside from Sparrow, the only pirates on the ride are the tiny CGI images in the on-screen boat battle. I think it's great as a fantasy adventure, but not as a replacement for other existing PoC rides.

Oh ya I’d never want the original POTC ride to be replaced. EVER!

Definitely not haha.
A Shanghai Pirates attraction in DCA might be a tough fit too. Unless they found a way to stick it somewhere near the pier. In which case, it would have to be IP'ed to Pixar...so no thanks.

I’d be in favor of one of the Marvel rides getting axed for a boat ride. If Mickey goes to Toontown I think you would have room for it between the backlot at DCA and the current bus transportation area.

Your only issue with that area is theming...how do you justify a boat-ride at the end of a Hollywood street? Unless its called "The LA River: The Adventure". In which case, it would be a pretty lame boat ride.

Lol @ the LA river adventure. Eh I dunno I mean you have Monsters in the backlot. An alien fortress In Hollywood. I don’t think they re too worried about it. However, the backlot and bus transportation area could be repurposed into a new land.

Pirates in Shanghai Disneyland has a cool ride system; but it's unfortunate the ride is not the same caliber without all the AA's and puts way too much emphasis on projections.

True. I think that whole area could use a re-theming. It's so tucked away anyway that people probably won't care.

I dunno. It looks pretty damn cool to me on YouTube. Plus it would be the best of both worlds. We could have the original POTC at DL and a new boat ride with all the new tech at DCA.

It doesn't have to be a boat ride using that tech...

It's a shame they don't have HM in the Asian parks aside from TDL. That tech could be really neat in a HM style dark ride. Not at all charming, you understand, but neat.
The park designers apparently claim the western concepts of ghosts and the undead don't translate well to Chinese culture, and that's why Mystic Manor was created as an alternative. MM's finale room kinda does the Shanghai motion vehicle/screen thing on a smaller scale...

(EDIT) BTW, have you been to or watched Youtube videos of Busch Gardens Williamsburg's "Curse of Darkastle" ride? It uses the Spiderman motion vehicles/screens/sets combo in a haunted castle setting. Looks fun. Not Disney or Universal-level good, but fun.

(UPDATE) ...and it looks like Busch Gardens just closed Darkastle last month... to make way for an entertainment stage. Fans are not happy.

So when are projections too much for you? For me, it's any more than in Alice.

Projections don’t bother me when they are used to enhance the environment and used in conjunction with physical sets. I cant think of any projections that bother me off the top of my head. I’m way more annoyed with screens and what they did to TOT turning those beautiful 3D Enviroments and making them 2D.

I mean does anyone actually feel like the Guardians of the galaxy are in front of them on MB? It feels like you are watching a movie of the Guardians while free falling.

RIP to that star effect and endless hallway with the ghosts. Dammit. This is making me mad.

Agreed. For me, projections are fine as long as they're effective and aren't used in place of something that would work better.
