Does anyone else think it's ridiculous that they celebrated the 55 anniversary of a classic Walt Disney production with a cheap plastic "Pop" collectible and a T shirt?
Well, as a POP collector, I take mild offense to them being called "cheap plastic" (HM ones price anywhere between $150-$300 on eBay)...but quite frankly, I'm just in shock the Tiki Room actually still exists and wasn't converted to Lilo and Stitch or something else by now.

The problem is, if you're not a pop collector, those figures have no value.

In regards to it still existing- it still draws a crowd for most shows, it's incredibly cheap to run (only needs one or two cast members) and it takes up so little space, that there's not much they'd be able to do there that'd be better. Not to mention the fan backlash of losing something Walt had a direct hand in, with a soundtrack that's as embedded in Disneyland lore as Yo Ho and Grim Grinning Ghosts. I also think that the Dole sponsorship and the Instagram popularity of the Dole Whips has helped keep Tiki Room around.

Well, that's true of any merch. I see no value in AP popcorn buckets (no offense @mickEblu) but some people felt the need to stand in a 2 hour line for them.

Yes, and the point I'm trying to make is that catering to only one specific group of collectors is a very weak way to "celebrate" an anniversary. At the very least, they should have been selling prints of the original poster, or some other Tiki Room inspired '55 anniversary artwork.

Well yeah, I agree 100%. If I said anything to convey I felt otherwise, I apologize.

I think it’s pretty ridiculous that they didn’t have some better merch. But I like the POP. It’s not so much that I like the cutesy designs of the POPs, it’s that I have thing for collecting park exclusive attraction merch.

I got to the park at 10:30 and, like a chump, I waited over an hour in line to get the POP from Wonderland Gallery. I then proceeded to take it to my car, walked back by the gallery on my way through DTD (I decided to skip the trams), and wouldn't you know it...at 12, not only was there NO line at WG, but they still had a decent amount of stock...:banghead::banghead::banghead:

Lol yup. That’s how I felt when Disneyana still had tons at like 5pm. I don’t know what to expect at these events. I’ve only done this once before and the abominable snowman did sell out pretty early. But I think the also made a lot less of those as the limit was 2 per person and not 10.

This was my first time buying one in-park and yeah, I had no clue what to expect. When I saw the line, there was a mild moment of panic that they'd actually sell out by the time I got closer. Compounded only by seeing several people carrying bags full of them out of the store (easily 10 per bag). I saw this one pair of guys each carrying out a bag full, sit down, and immediately whip out their phones...then I heard people in line behind me saying, "they're already on eBay". I have no doubt those guys were making listings right outside the store. This is the dark side of collectible merch that I just can't stand.

I’m sorry man. If I saw this when I was the parks I would have definitely got you one. Wish you said something when I posted about it in this thread last week. At 4pm there were still a bunch at Disneyana. Not sure how close you are to the parks.

What's the retail price on this one?

Cute, but the likenesses are too cartoony in my opinion. Also, they're the hitchhikers. They shouldn't all be in the same Doom Buggy. Have they ever been on the ride?

Lol. I figured you would say something like this. Slightly cartoony but it’s about as good as we can hope for these days. Ezra, my favorite ghost, looks pretty good. I don’t mind them being in the same doom buggy. What I do mind is the fat ghosts foot being outside of the vehicle. It makes it look like these were old left overs that didn’t sell that were put into a doom buggy to make them more appealing.
