The "Legoland" Effect

Not to mention a high speed rail from MCO to Tampa. With a stop in Lakeland.

Question: How far is it from Lakeland to Winter Haven?
Answer: Not far. Not far at all.

The lakeland stop would be near I-4. It would be a good 30 to 40 minute drive.

Answer: yes it is

Think Legoland will follow the pattern of the other theme park resorts and eventually build a second gate? I totally would want to see Erectorland!

They will open in 2011 with a second gate of sorts as they plan to separate the waterpark from legoland and make it a separate ticket.

Yep. :(

I'm sad for nostalgic reasons, but even I admit...It was dead in 2007. How may times can a Toa transform?:lookaroun

And I agree with you on LL. I'll go, but not at the expense of Disney. If anything, the time will be split. Day in WDW, day in LL.

I can't tell you how upsetting this is going to be. The Ben 10 legos are a huge disappointment. They're built like Bionicles, but are much cheaper. Not good. :(

It will be less than 20 miles. Possibly a lot less depeding on exactly where the station goes.

So, your going to take a train from Orlando to Lakeland, then rent a car or ride a bus 20 miles by your estimate. The station will be on the west side of Lakeland, by SR 33, not toward the east where it would have to be. I posted earlier about the drive from Tampa, it amounts to the same thing. There is no direct route from I-4 to Cypress Gardens except US 27. Even twenty miles would be miserable. I know, my son lived in Wauchula, you have to use either US 17 or US 27 to get there. Your 20 miles would take atleast 30-40 minutes on top of the train ride which with 10 minute stops at the I-Drive stop, WDW stop and travel time, you got to be looking at well over an hour of travel.

No, no you completely misunderstand. I think Legoland will provide a free shuttle service from the station to the park for those with flexpasses or for those who buy a day ticket at the stations on-site Legoland kiosk.

It doesn't matter if they provide a free shuttle or not, from the Lakeland station to Cypress Gardens will be about a 40 minute drive. I am very familiar with the Lakeland/Winter Haven area and there is no easy way to get to Cypress Gardens from where the Lakeland train station would have to go. Gatorboy is right. It will be a long haul no matter what.

They just opened a new toll road in the area and more road improvements are on the way. If it's included in the ticket price people won't mind a short commute. It's less than 20 miles and it won't take 40 minutes especially after the improvements. I'm familiar with that area too.

When you compare the cost (free) and short wait to needing a rental car, it's an obvious choice.

Look how long it takes once you drive on to Disney property, go through the parking booths, pay to park, park, catch the tram, access transportation, commute to the MK, and then wait to go through the main gate.

That doesn't stop people from visiting. :)

I know.

Maybe if the Ben 10's flop, they'll bring back BIO. They are considering the storyline, though...It's still on going.

If you are familar with the area, then you should know the toll road does a loop around Lakeland ending on the east & west side of Lakeland @ I-4. the station will be located in the middle by the 33 interchange, the only logical location to generate ridershop. Besides, you still have to get off the toll road cross over to US 17 and head down thru several small towns with 35mph speed limits. I've done the drive. It takes 40 minutes

You're talking about the Polk Parkway, that's been open since 1999/2000. IF the station goes at the intersection of the Parkway and I4 it will cost you $2 in tolls each way if you drive it. Right now it's a two lane road part of the way. Then, you'd still have to take SR540 to Winter Haven and drive through Winter Haven. A shuttle would most likely take the some route. If the train station goes further west though, closer to Tampa, you'd have to drive through Lakeland before getting to Winter Haven. Lakeland traffic is horrible at certain times of the day. I'm just saying it's not going to be that easy to get too.

They announced improvements are coming. My guess is that is an understatement. It won't be 40 minutes by 2014.

By the way I timed getting on Disney property to walking through the gate at the MK once. 40 minutes would have been nice.

See, now if Bionicle were not ending this year that easily would have been MASK. :(
Seriously, I'm gonna miss the franchise and it's a real shame it never got the ride it deserved.
At least the final battle stuff they're doing this year is pretty cool and that they'll keep the storyline going in 2011 at least.

Hero Factory and Ben 10 Alien Force are really underwhelming substitutes, especially Alien Force considering how bad that show's been already.

Oh, sheesh. A BIO Dark Ride? Synthesis of all things to geek out over. :o

I like the final battle stuff too. Love that Tahu (not you.) is back and actually looks like a Olda again. Hau and all.

I don't get why they are ENTIRELY dropping the franchise. Sales are still up, it's one of the longest original lines they've done. If anything, they should just stop releasing so many sets. Instead of 6 per "wave", 3.

Yeah, I'm not sure why people think a 40-minute ride from the train station is such a big deal. Private companies run Disneyland shuttles from LAX that take about that long... longer at rush hour, I'm sure.

ETA: Granted Legoland won't be anything like a resort destination, but if tourists are willing to drive out there, I don't see why many of the same people wouldn't be willing to take a bus. If the appeal is primarily to locals, then a shuttle might not be a great idea.

Why are all the Disney fans so defensive? As a consumer we should be ecstatic about competition. Capitalism has a way of making products better and cheaper. This is all good for future WDW travelers. Embrace it and hope for more.

That and those vehicles are so damn expensive.
What's really bad about the toyline cancellation is that it denies us of what they were originally planning for 2011: biomechanical Dinosaurs on the forest moon of Bota Magna

Apparently Lego might bring it back if the demand is high enough or that this HEro Factory doesn't work out for them, that's why they're gonna keep the storyline going for a little while longer, so that when the time comes for a Bionicle return, the fanbase will still be sticking around. Of course, it's likely the fanbase will keep going for a while anyway, a bunch of people have been kicking around a fanfilm series project over at BZPower to cover all the storyline that never was seen in animated form.

Ahh....So the whole Mata Nui/Makuta Arc would wrap up and we would finally have a winner? Sounds cool, I guess. And YES, those vehicles got pointless and too expensive. Probably brought them down a ton. Like I said, 3 and 3. In 2002, we had the Bahrang, ExoToa, and Boxor. Simple enough.

I should swing by BZP sometime...I have not posted there in ages. And yeah, the fan base will be solid. For a long time. I bet this Hero thing fails, anyway. BIO will be back.
