I cant help but wonder if Comcast had got Fox would there be such a focus on the layoffs in the press or is it because everyone likes to make Disney look like the big old bad guy?

It would have been a story either way because it changing the entire landscape of Hollywood. The next round of stories I expect to hit here in the next couple of months is some of these executives joining up and starting their own production companies with foreign financing.

Idk I can't help but feel that it wouldn't be such a big story. It's being reported because it gets clicks and because it's Disney. Cause X-Men. If it was Comcast it would be just another merger. And everyone would forget about it. Well except the marvel fans. The Marvel rights are why people so against this deal apparently. People in the press think marvel fans are ignoring the bigger picture.

I don't think people understand this is standard merger procedure it just so happens there's a lot more crossover between Disney and fox and sadly with that there are layoffs. With comcast the job crossover might have even been worse. And i doubt they would have been as generous with the severance packages either.

You're reading too much into this.

The layoff coverage that is happening is common amongst all mergers, so every company that goes through this makes the news. Whether it would have been Comcast or some other company that bought Fox instead, it would have made big news once the layoffs started happening. Again this about a larger story which is the changing landscape in traditional Hollywood to compete against the streaming services like Netflix. It would have been a big story no matter what.

Also I'm not sure where you got information about Marvel fans being wholely against the rights coming back to Marvel. In fact all I've seen were praises for Marvel getting the rights back. In fact once Iger confirmed the continued rated R Marvel films like Deadpool I think that calmed any fears there might have been. Maybe there is some fringe element of the Marvel fandom out on reddit or twitter or some tuber blasting it in their vlogs. But overall its been widely heralded by Marvel fans as a positive move for the Fox/Marvel properties especially given some of the recent missteps with properties like Fantastic Four.

I meant that the press are annoyed at the marvel fans for only caring about the marvel rights and not thinking of the bigger picture.

I guess you and I are reading different press. None of the main stream press I’ve read ever mention Marvel fans only caring about the rights. In fact I would question what reports you’re reading that inject their own opinion/feelings on annoyance of Marvel fans, it surely isn’t any real media outlet.

Ive read a few variety articles where its clear they are projecting their own bias. They don't mention the marvel rights specifically but its obvious.

Well Variety would not be the first place I'd go to get my business news about mergers, even Hollywood related ones.

Anyways the point is that most coverage of the merger, except it appears Variety, has not included any information about Marvel fans specifically.

Disney's (with Fox included) Cinemacon presentation is today (Wed, Apr 3) from 3:30 - 5:30 PDT. We many not here anything until it's over since they want a cell phone black out during the presentation.

Just thought of something: Isn't is kinda late in the year to announce this year's schedule?

Here's a tiny spoiler about Endgame from the trailer at Cinemacon...

There's even more spoilers from the clip they showed. Argh. Stupid tweeters.
