Pocahontas River Adventure

Located in Disney's Animal Kingdom
in Camp Minnie-Mickey

Story Beyond the Attraction:

DAK is one of the hottest parks to be in for some reason, and CMM is one of the most underutilized lands in all of WDW. I wanted a thrill ride for DAK and the option to cool off in the hot Florida sun. Pocahontas seemed liked a fine choice since it has a presence in CMM already, and fits the water adventure theme.

Basic Ride Summary
  • Immerse yourself in the world of Pocahontas.
  • Board a canoe for eight and journey into a world centered around nature's glory.
  • Discover the free will and spirit of love Pocahontas has.
  • Play along with Flit, Meeko, and more critters as they accompany you on your journey.
  • Plummit down steep and slippery waterfalls.
Ride Vehicles
Log canoes fit for eight; 4 rows, 2 in each row. Each canoe has a wildlife animal or Pocahontas on them with leaves engraved on the sides of the logs.

In Depth Ride Summary:

As you see the sign, you are immersed in a sycamore forest. The first part of the queue is an outdoor path marked with various critter tracks. Along the path you may see signs of miners (mining picks, helments, and lanterns), but the only European you will see is John Smith. Once near the entrance to the indoor queue, you will see many teepees and vegetation. The indoor queue is one big massive ceremonial teepee. The teepee is dimly lit, and has a ceremonial paintings on the teepee telling the story of Pocahontas. You can hear the sounds of beating drums in the distance, and the chief announcing a ceremony is about to take place. You may also see the shadows of Pocahontas, Flit, Meeko, and John Smith running and doing various things on the sides of the ceremonial teepee. Once out of the teepee, you once again in the sycamore forest, except now you are in a see a distant riverbank.

An illusion of being outdoors is presented in this room because you are actually in a massive room. The room adjusts to the time of day, is climate controled to the actual temperature outside, and creates a rain effect if it is actually raining (but don't worry, you won't get wet!). Get used to this effect because it is present in every single room of the ride! The riverbank is crystal clear blue, and has several canoes docked. Once you board the canoes, you embark into the first room... here we go!

The first room introduces you to the story of Pocahontas. It plays the introduction song to the movie "Steady as a Beating Drum." You enter a large hill which will get you through the several drops before the main plunge. Along the hill, you see the wind outlined with LEDs and leaves lit up to insinuate you are being guided by the wind itself. The next scene in the ride is outdoors. Here you can see the final plunge, several sycamore trees, and critter tracks leading into the next room. In the third room, Kokoum offers himself to Pocahontas.

Pocahontas strongly disagrees with him and says she is not going to be decided for. Meeko and Flit are not present in this room. In the next room, Pocahontas runs off and you see signs of miners in the disntance. Meeko is trying on a miner's hat and holding a pick. The melody of the beating drum can be heard in this room. This room is very short compared to others, and it takes you into the next scene with a short drop. In the next room, many waterfalls are present and John Smith finally encounters Pocahontas. No guns are present thogh, and Flit and Meeko can be seen hiding behind a rock peeking. The only dialogue presnt here is John Smith asking questions about where and who she is with Pocahontas being silent. The next room shows Pocahontas and John Smith in the process of falling in love. Mainly Pocahontas is showing him all of the wildlife around them and giving him a tour of the surroundings. Many critters are present during this scene. The next scene Pocahontas is alone with Grandmother Willow. The willow is a massive AA and the room is the largest of all the rooms in the ride. The song listen with your heart is played continuously with little dialogue between the willow and Pocahontas in between verses. Pocahontas asks the willow what she should do: marry the one decided for her or marry the person she decided. This room is always dimly lit and is a giant circle. The willow's roots are present everywhere you look. The next room is the River Bend room. Here is the climax of the ride and where you encounter the most thrill. You experience short drops with many rapids and water squirting turtle and otter AAs.

normal_POC0NNM1-245.jpg

Pocahontas is also seen in a canoe with Flit and Meeko singing the song "Just Around the Riverbend." After man drops you encounter a fork in the road, and your vehicle goes towards the jagged river.

All of a sudden you feel a blast of air and you are quickly scurried up the final hill. Right before the plunge Pocahontas, now standing up looking out into the park/queue, declares she is in love with John Smith and has made up her mind. Meeko and Flit are holding onto Pocahontas for dear life. The plunge is right inbetween two massive waterfalls and is straight down. You will get wet no matter what. The drop is showcased to the park (like most drop flume rides).

The final room after travelling a bit outside is the Colors of the Wind scene set back in the sycamore forest. Here Pocahontas, John Smith, Meeko, and Flit are all together. This room has thousands of LEDs going on all at once to paint a picture of Pocahontas and John Smith as well as drawing out what is sung in the song. Dozens of AAs are present and Meeko and Flit are playing together being friends. The ride ends with Pocahontas asking you to "Enjoy your life and your surroundings. Life is an adventure waiting to happen!"

Apologies Mater, I'm not having a very good run in this contest. I seem to have lost all my files on my hard drive, specifically the documents and pictures for this attraction. I'm afraid there's nothing I can do until morning.

Please don't fault Jasonflz, he has done a fine job.

Alright so I'm not sure if my team is still up but I just got back and realized it wasn't posted so I'll put it up...Fairly sure this is all of it. Might need to edit some in.

Ned's Nocturnal Adventure
Our Ride: This ride is a slow speed river cruise that fulfills the original purpose of Disney's Animal Kingdom by giving guests the opprutunity to see what they would never be able to see at home. The nocturnal world hosted by our favorite guide Shrunken Ned.
Location: Rafiki's Planet watch. - We chose this location, as it allowed us flexibility in what animals we can use, as we would not be tied into any particular geographic location and there is plenty of unused land near it that would allow for such a massive undertaking.
Queue:
The ride begins as guests walk into a building and the queue is nature themed with daylight lighting. And as you walk along the lights get dimmer transitioning to nighttime by loading area.

Ride boats: The ride vehicles would be free floating river boats that would contain a large video screen that would show the rides host Shrunken Ned giving information on the current animals...as well as Nightvision camera views of the animals to allow for even better viewing.

Animals: The ride will showcase some of the world's most fascinating animals...those which live at night. Some of the Animals that we plan to include are:
Bats
Slow Loris
Slow_Loris_Female.jpg

Two toed Sloths
Aye-Aye
180px-Aye-aye_%28Daubentonia_madagascariensis%29.jpg

Binterong - No that hot buttered popcorn smell isn't piped in, it's the Binterong, really they smell like hot buttered popcorn
Binturong_in_Overloon.jpg

Galago
Greater_Bush_Baby.jpg

Koala - a lot of zoos have them, but not many (if any) have night viewing of them
Friendly_Female_Koala.JPG

Kiwi
Karuwai_at_August_2005_Health_Check.JPG

Owls - there would also be Owls that are trained to fly low over the boats demonstrating their silent flight.\
Northern_Spotted_Owl.USFWS-thumb.jpg

Panamanian Night Monkey
Panamanian_night_monkey.jpg

Margay
Margay_cat.jpg

Tamandua
Douroucouli
Tawny frogmouth
Snow Leopards - in a snow filled environment, it will even snow from time to time.
snow-leopard-1.jpg

Spectacled Bear - While separated by natural barriers, they would be in the same habitat as the Snow Leopards, due to similar needs.
Spectacled_Bear_Tennoji_2.jpg

This would all be accomplished due to the Massive show building which would allow us to alter the animals internal clocks by convincing them that it is nighttime during park hours and daytime during the night.

The ride would also make use of special lighting that the animals cannot percieve but humans can.

Reasoning:
The reason we went with an E-Ticket much like Killimanjaro Safari was we looked at what Animal Kingdom REALLY needed and determined it was a Dark Ride that animal kingdom lacked. So then we looked at the park's mission and what really fit. And decided this was the answer. It would have a backstory much like KS. The mere massiveness of this project is what would make it an E-Ticket ride. The building would be huge and to recreate all of the animals home enviornments would take ALOT.
This would not replace Rafiki's Planet Watch, but would be an addition to it, after the train ride and at the end of the trail, this will get more people to visit this underused area and can help with crowd control by only letting x number of people to be able to get in line every 5 to 10 minutes.

The Great Pyramid

By Jasonflz, disneyman88, and TrevorA

Africa. A beautiful canvas that has been largely unsoiled by modern man. Lush jungles to the south, and vast deserts to the north. Africa in much of its splendor is represented in Disney's Animal Kingdom. But, unfortunately, an entire biome has been overlooked insofar by Imagineers. That is exactly where our attraction picks up.

As one travels through Harambe village, he or she will notice a new destination for the Wildlife Express train. "Visit the Great Pyramid! Help citizens of Egypt during the drought!" An accomplished WDW expert will stop for moment to inquire as to the status of Rafiki's Planet Watch; but, the guests who don't know any better will most likely be found waiting for the next departure. Let's follow the latter group, they seem to know how to have a good time.

Queue:

As you exit the train station, you pass through a room full of priceless antiquities. Displays of mummies and other artifacts surround you. Scrolls line the walls. Newspaper clippings describe a drought in Egypt that has been believed to be caused by the Sun god Ra, who is displeased. After passing through a few switchbacks you are in a larger airy room. On the far left wall is a massive sculpture of the sun god Ra. His hands are positioned upwards as he is clutching a massive ball (signifying the sun) in his hands. As you exit the room you pass underneath the statue staring ominously down at you. The next room is a dimly lit chamber with noises echoing throughout. As you continue down the path the room seems to slowly get darker. Hissing noises seem to come through the walls. You finally enter the loading dock. A large space next to it shows Egypt at night. Special effects simulate the moon while the large painting has small lights embedded into it to feature a small village near the pyramid.

Vehicle:

The vehicles you board as you prepare to float through the small oasis outside of the Great Pyramid are larger versions of a traditional reed boat, handcrafted by the native Egyptians serving as your tour guides this evening. The boats are a variation of the originals, having twice the seat space from side to side. They need all the customers they can get in a drought like this, you know.

The Oasis:

Your tour guide pushes off from the dock, and your journey has begun. He begins his spiel, in a heavy Arabic accent, of course, telling the story of this amazing piece of land. You learn that the river in which you are sailing upon is the only known source of running water in the Sahara. The natives believe that this miracle is because of Ra, the sun God, who is otherwise unsatisfied with the rest of his kingdom. Drifting through the thick African air, you get a breathtaking view of the Great Pyramid. Shortly after, the boat approaches a fork in the river. To the right, you see more foliage. To the left, the waterway appears to head straight through the pyramid. Your guide remarks that he has never seen the stream to the left, and decides to investigate. You, the helpless guest, have no choice but to join him.

The First Corridor:

As the group approaches the apparent entrance to the enormous tomb, it is clear that the opening was man-made. Explosives an cable are strewn about, and footprints lead into the water. One begins to wonder what is really going on this evening. The boat gently glides into the first corridor, and the guide quickly discovers that the ceiling is too low for standing. He takes a seat in the rear of the vessel. Echoes throughout the stone hallways eerily beckon guests to ride further into the unknown.

The Grand Gallery:

We continue to float into the pyramid, entering the Grand Gallery. Here is where the fun begins. Just as a Grand Gallery passes uphill through the great tomb, the river passes through in the same way. Our guide leads us to believe that the Sun God is angry, and using the river to follow intruders through the caverns. Of course, you believe him, mostly because you have never seen water running uphill, and cannot think of a better explanation.

The Kings Chamber:

At the pinnacle of our journey, we see a pair a grave robbers in the act of stealing from the great pharaoh. Except, these men have already experienced the wrath of Ra. Rounding a bend, we see the Sun God, in all of his fury. Conjuring up a spell, he send us down into the depths of the pyramid at a blinding speed. In another act of defiance against the laws of gravity, Ra sends the boat on a tailspin out of the pyramid.

The Oasis-Part II:

The tour guide is more than a little rattled from his near death experience. He takes us back to the dock, and apologizes numerous times, forgetting to charge us for the tour in his haste to leave. We exit the attraction a little wetter, and a lot wiser.

---

I don't know if anyone has heard of the monsoon ride, but that was the idea that we were going for. It is not a roller coaster, but a story driven attraction with one very carefully placed and effective drop. On a side note, the vehicles are free-floating, with the exception of the uphill-river portion.

I would also like to take some time to apologize (again) for my definite lack of punctuality. If I'm not eliminated in this round, I am seriously going to consider dropping out. It's a moral thing, and I don't feel that it would be fair for me to continue to break the rules that others are able to follow. Sorry again.

Thank You Team B for turning in a project..

BUT the judges and I are having a few problems with the OTHER 2 projects... We do have a vote from 3 of the 4 judges BUT we can say that BOTH of the attractions were LACKING and not worthy to be considered E tickets...

SO for that reason, we are pondering whether even to announce a "winning" team, or just have a "bottom" 2 (even though Team B is, so far the best, i havent read it all, but the team MUST be in the bottom 2 becasue of the tardiness)

So let me think of it and i will let YOU ALL KNOW what will be happening after i get home from school today.. I will be later than normal because I have Student Council today... :)

:O since when does water run in pyramids?

I don't get how my project isn't an e-ticket... it's basically a 10-12 minute flume ride thmed to Pocahontas with steep drops... evidently that's a D-ticket or lower... I spent a lot of my time describing every single detail I could think of, and mostly I did, but ultmately had to hold back on my wording because I felt like I was describing it too much. evidently that's a D-ticket or lower  :lol::lol::ROFLOL::lol::ROFLOL::ROFLOL::lol:
