We will be starting with the basics of Imagineering, so this first project will be simple, and quick. Your job is to create a new Character Meet n Greet in Magic Kingdom’s Adventureland. This might seem TOO easy, but believe me its not. The main thing you need to learn is that EVERYTHING in a Disney Theme Park has theming and a story behind it, from the trees in Tomorrowland, to the buildings on Main Street, to even the big hat at Disney’s Hollywood Studios… Everything has a story.

So your project is to make an already existing building in Adventureland be of use, this can be a empty building like the old Adventureland Veranda, or an already in use building and just take what is in it out, like the Shops near the Agrabah Bazaar. One key element is that it must have theming and a story from the moment you step into it from the land to the time you step back out of it. So your thinking how much theming and story can a Meet n Greet be, well with the recently “revealed” Fantasyland Plans it seems that Disney has and will be making Meet n Greets into attractions, just look at the “Pixie Hollow” Tinkerbell and Friends area in Mickey’s ToonTown Fair, with lines that are well over an hour daily.

So here are your musts:
--Themed Queue
--One or More Characters
--Themed Backdrops
--How this ties into Adventureland?
--Overall Story

Also I didn’t mention this earlier but you can make up your own character to place in Adventureland, but it you do you also MUST need a backstory. Other than that the same criteria will be used.

This project is DUE MONDAY AUGUST 10th…. I will begin scoring them on Tuesday Morning… For EVERY DAY you are late, you will get a point deducted from your final score… So being on TIME is KEY… Have fun!! And if you have any questions, please feel free to PM me or post them here…

I will be posting how we the judges will be grading your projects soon as well… So everyone understands how we will grade them, because there will not be a “rubric”

What do yo mean TrevorA?? meaning do you have to come up with it as your own for this competition... then the answer is YES.. if not please explain your question...

How we the Judges will be grading

We will be grading on a Rank Scale.. Then I will take each of the judges scores and add them together to get your final score… If there is a tie on the lowest person of points wise I will take the person that is the lowest on the most rankings… Since this first challenge is with 9 people, each player will have a score out of 36… and when we get to 8 people it will be out of 32.. and so on…

Example…
Say we have 5 players…
(these are random names)
-John
-Mike
-Sally
-Jill
-Eric

Judge 1 Judge 2 Judge 3 Judge 4
5- Mike Sally Mike Mike
4- John Eric Eric Sally
3-Eric Mike Sally Eric
2-Sally Jill Jill John
1-Jill John John Jill

Then you would add them up..
- Mike—5+3+5+5= 18
- John—4+1+1+2= 8
- Eric—3+4+4+3= 14
- Sally—2+5+3+4= 14
- Jill—1+2+2+1= 4

Then here is the final ranking out of 20…
5- Mike—18/20
4-Eric—14/20
3-Sally—14/20
2-John—8/20
1-Jill—4/20

Along with each judges scores, the judges will also give their thoughts on each of the projects, how they could improve? What was good? And so on…

So in the ranking above Jill would be eliminated…

one final thing, for everyday you are late you have -1 point, then if you have not turned your project within 3 days of due date YOU WILL BE ELIMINATED, unless you PM or post on the thread a reasoning why you are late like if you are on vacation..etc..

If you have any question feel free to PM me or Post here… I hope the I can answer… Also if you have any concerns..

Yes
I mean, do we have to create something new, or can we use an idea that we have made previously?

Is it too late to join in? I feel that this would be a good chance to get the creative juices flowing again, if you'd have me... :D

Edit: Found the sign up thread and placed my request over there. Once I get the green light, my idea will start to be born...

Here's mine:

Shrunken Ned’s Wild Meet’N’Greet:

Located at the closed Adventureland veranda is Shrunken Ned’s Wild Meet’N’Greet. The area is themed to look like a shack in the middle of the jungle. The shack is enclosed so guests have to venture inside to meet the characters.

Backstory:

The story goes like this, Jungle Cruise captain Ned (or Shrunken Ned as his reputation precedes him) has returned to the jungles of Adventureland after a 12 year trek across the rivers of the Amazon and is going to share his discoveries with anyone willing to visit at his shack. Not only does his shack contain wonders not imagined by any mere person, but it also features some funny characters that have returned with him. This story is backed up with letters and documents shuffled around the shack.

Look:

The exterior of the shack is made to look like it is straight out of the jungle. It somewhat resembles an African style mixed with Congo. Small details can be found anywhere. The wood on the left side of the entrance is carved to resemble various animals on Ned’s trek. You might also notice various diamonds carved into the wooden floor to match with the ground detail of the Adventureland plaza. The interior really is unique, however. The floor is covered in a large rug that definitely looks like it is not from anywhere familiar. Lining the walls are various collection of treasures including shrunken heads, tiki idols, rare butterfly's, and much more. Most of Ned's "treasures" tie in some way with the Jungle Cruise and the Agrabbah Bazzar. There are also many jewels and skulls, tieing it in with Pirates Of The Caribbean. At the far end is a makeshift fireplace. Guests might also want to look above to see animatronic bats and long vines hanging from the rafters. There is also various painting of what Shrunken Ned encountered along on his visit and a massive bookshelf that looks to be carved out of indigenous trees. The room is lit mostly by windows on the roof and little lights along the wall. The fireplace is lit at night.

Characters:

The greeting area is located next to the fireplace. Among the meet and greet characters are some familiar faces like Baloo and King Louie. More original ones are shrunken Ned's indian trader friends and a few explorers that show up.

Well, there it is.

also for all... i forgot to mention that... i would HIGHLY recomend using pictures and such, like pics from internet, computer drawings or hand drawings to enhance your project and so everyone will understand what you mean... and help them understnad the concept and get a better visual...

sorry i forgot to tell you all that earlier...

EDIT: ALso you will be posting the project on this thread when you are done, as i said before i would wait to post till day beofre or day of due date...

Ok so still, Can you extend a building. Because I have a great idea but realistically I don't know if it would fit in the area I'm working with.

Not to judge the judging  but could we have a more structured assignment. That is, can there be more specific instructions. It's a bit open-ended (maybe this is the way you want it?) and one could really do whatever they want. They could just write a script, such as Jason did, or create concept art, or both, or maybe just some computer graphics, or blueprints, etc., etc., etc. If I could just throw out there that I think the contest would go smoother, if for each round there were a bit more specific instructions. Just my opinion however. I guess that was why I asked earlier about teams, as I realize some may be better at drawing than writing, and vice versa. There is a reason Imagineers don't work alone. But either way, I'll leave all of that up to you guys, the judges. Just wanted to go on record that it could be difficult to compare various plans if they are not all of the same media.

For this project you really can't write a script. You can, however, write a description and do concept art, both of which I did. ;)

that is fine Missing20K...

This project i want to be open ended... i just want to start off basic and such... i just want you all to understand that the simplest thing NEEDS a story..

I have decided there WILL be a group project coming up... but not this one..

So i want this to be open ended and just see what you all can do... Most if not all the other projects will have STRICT criteria... I understand where you are comign from though....

So this is WHAT YOU NEED:
--Story(how it connects to Adventuerland area)
--Theming
--Characters...

I know its basic but i still think they are important...

My question on the bolded above: how does the story have to prove the connection to Adventureland? I can understand theming it appropriately to fit under the land's open genre, but fitting it in storywise is a little more difficult, considering the land consists of at least four attractions that have little to no connection to each other. In terms of theming, my concept fits and meshes with the area quite well, but the story doesn't specifically address Adventureland--moreso, it addresses the concept of adventure.
