To me, losing the Adventurers Club is like losing an entire park. In fact, I would rather they close Animal Kingdom than the Adventurers Club. It was a place that I could spend hours in and enjoy every minute of it. That's how immersive and wonderfully themed it was. Unfortunately, it's closed now, but it's alive and well inside my heart and mind. I neither can nor want it out of my system.
I just do not get that..though to each his own...

Coming from you who would sit and get annoyed when people complained about attractions or shows being removed for other things or being changed..yet when it comes to something you believe in or cared about the whole situation changes...

Disney is wrong for doing it and it is a huge mistake.

I mean I understand you love the place but isn't change a good thing..you always used to say that about people who complained because Horizons is gone or Mr. Toad was removed..that everything changes...why is it not a good thing now?

one day, you will look back at the above post and laugh at yourself.

please don't take offense if the rest of us don't wait that long. :drevil:
Doug!..

I can see where they would be VERY dissapointed.

I never got to go to the AC, didn't know what it was before this year. But when it's closure was announced, I learned through this site what it was all about. I joined the fight too, sending many letters to Disney myself. But I never got an oppurtunity to travel to WDW before it closed. As I was leaving Sunday afternoon from a spur-of-the-moment overnight trip, I walked by the abandoned AC. I almost started crying, it was such a sad sight. I felt a kid standing outside of the empty Haunted Mansion facade at DL years ago, except the difference here is I know I will never get to go inside. And the worst part is, everyone who walked by the building sort of squinted at the building as they walked by, saying to their family, "I wonder what that is?" Disney could have made it a huge success if they wanted to. For some reason, I have a feeling they wanted it to fail.

I sent letters too...I did that for Michael because I know he cared about it..and yes..it is sad...but everything does change..and Disney apparently thinks they made the right choice.

I can only speak for myself, but I felt more fulfilled after a night at the Adventurers Club than a day at DAK. That's the kind of impact it had for me. I just watched Rudolph the other day, and the "Island of Misfit Toys" pretty much sums up the AC. It was a place where everyone felt like they belonged...where we could all be independent together:lookaroun

Yes, I do feel that way about certain things. I like Mission: Space, and I'm sure I would have liked Horizons as well...maybe more than M:S. I wish both existed in present day EPCOT. You're the one that is adamantly opposed to M:S. As for Toad, I don't think I've ever said that Pooh is better than Toad. Things do change and sometimes for the better, but things aren't changing for the better much these days. They're changing for the worse.

Disney apparently thinks they made the right choice.
Jay Rasulo thinks he made the right choice...just like with YoMD and WWYC. I'm sure many would disagree with him. Pleasure Island needed some rethinking, etc. but the core idea, story, whathaveyou (look up the backstory someday) is one of the best and most well thought out on property and over the years has been screwed and watered down by management. I'm sure that people who like to spend a day in DTD will be happy that there are more shops and restaurants though. Who needs unique, magical entertainment?

The Adventurers Club would have been a great building block for a new Pleasure Island. Now, it's just another treasure banished to Yesterland in the Disney Vault.

I HATE Mission Space..not because it replaced Horizons..which is a pretty good reason..:)..but because I think it S U C KS!..:lookaroun My opinion though.

Your reasons are all valid..and I appreciate your dedication to the AC..I was just wondering what the difference was in your mind and you answered that.

I mean missing it because it is not there and being sad about it I understand but to let it ruin your whole trip..makes no sense to me.

I've known plenty of people who would drive/fly to Orlando just to visit the AC--they went to the parks during the day only to kill time until it opened. ;) Yes, the Club really was that unique and fun. The closest analogy I can think of would be imagine taking a 5-year-old to MK, only to be told it had closed and you'll just have to make due with DHS. Sure, you can find things to do, but just not the perfect time you were anticipating.

Disney apparently thinks they made the right choice.

Well, that's certainly debatable--doubt we'll ever know for sure (maybe a tell-all book in 15 years). But it is apparent the owners of Fuego, Raglan Road, Curl, the H-D shop, the Cheesecake Factory and any other grown-up restaurants/shops that were looking into building in the PI area think differently.

That sums it up perfectly.

Like I said..if that was the main reason you were going there then I understand you could be disappointed but if you had a trip to WDW planned and were going to go to AC when the parks closed and it was gone and you let that ruin your trip..then no..makes no sense to me.

I personally did not get the club..I went a long time ago..1995 to be exact and did not get it..it was not my type of place...but I know there are people who loved it and that is fine...just not me.

That is very understandable.. I can relate to that because I am a big Monty Python fan, and when I met my wife I wanted her to watch MP & the Holy Grail with me.. She hated it, boy was I shocked.. Something I really enjoyed and she just didn't get it/didn't understand the humor..

My wife and I loved the AC though.. It was part of our trip every time we went down. When it was open I remember the disappointment of getting to the club at 7:00pm only to find it would not open to the public until 9:00pm on certain nights! (corporate events etc) Basically walked around for 2 hours bored.

The last time there it was closed, and it was definately a bummer. Really no reason we would ever need to go back to DTD again. Shopping? Dining? Enough of that available at the parks..

Well as much as I love the AC, I too find it hard to believe that ruined your trip. Most guests have their favorite combination of attractions. In my case, it happened to be the AC, the Timekeeper, the Alien Encounter, the orignal Energy Paviliion, the original Journey into Imagination, Wonders of Life, The Sky Bucket ride, The original Living Seas, and Superstar Televison. OK, I'm lying about the last one.

I don't go as often now. Thank goodness for SOAR'N !!!!

It's a useless argument without any statistics to back either side.

That being said, I'm sure it was profitable. :p
'

Statistics arent needed when common sense can answer the question for you. The club was empty most of the time during the week. 3 days of steady (but not heavy) traffic can not make a site profitable with a staff of 8 full time actors, on average 2 sec guards assigned to the place, 3 bartenders, one manager, insurance on the site, utilities, etc. Far before it was even announced as closing, many times during the week, the actors would be outside trying to drum up guests to come inside.

The Ad Club was said to have ranked fourth among the remaning clubs in terms of profitablility/over all attendance (Motion was first, Mannequins 2nd, 8 Trax, and then Ad Club, followed by Comedy Warehouse and BET).

I liked the Ad Club, miss it dearly, but lets not try to make it more popular than it really was. It's strength was contained with a few die hard fans who, together, were not enough to salvage the club nor provided enough consistant business.

Most of the AD Club's guests were also Annual Passholders or multi-club attendees, further weakening the club (versus places like Mannequins, 8 Trax, and Motion which had a larger proportion of the more profitable one club admission guests).

A club

Had visited A CLUB twice when
it was open. Probably wasn't cheap
$ to operate, needing many cast
members.

ROTATION of the program was the #1
thing lacking for repeat visitors @ WDW
on the A CLUB to keep it fresh IMO!

For those posters saying their WDW trip
was destroyed  by the clubs closing. Hmmm!

I just wanted to comment on this.

The one club admission tickets weren't available for the Adventurer's Club.

Disney actually got more money out of me to visit the Adv. Club. It was the only club I really wanted to get into, however, I had to pay full club admission (meaning admission into ALL PI clubs) just to enter.

Now, that could have been a double edged sword...I can easily see how people would have been willing to pay a single club admission to get into the other single clubs. But with the Adv. Club, they didn't have a choice. The only option was paying a multi club admission for the Adv. Club only, which trust me, is a lot harder to swallow, as it was nearly twice the cost of a one club only ticket.

It was something that I did, as it was my only option, but I would have much prefered (as I'm sure many other people who either were patrons of the Adv. Club or--and this one is key--potential patrons who maybe wanted to visit, but were put off by the price to just get into that one single club) to pay a one club only cost, since the Adv. Club was the only one I was interested in going into.

So, of course, I'm sure that those other clubs did do better...it cost a lot cheaper to get into them.
