My wife and I rode this/sat through this a while ago and absolutly hated it. I've read some of the reviews and a vast majority doesn't like it either. So A.) if Disney knows this why do they keep it open B.) is there anything planned to replace it C.) Am i totally off base here? Wasn't the ride designed for kids, but yet when i observed kids coming off/out of the attraction a lot of them were crying...:xmas: mary christmas

You've discovered the Great Parodox of life, lol. I really don't understand Disney's reasoning behind their decision to replace one of the best Disney attractions ever created with something so worthless, only to realize that the problem they were trying to solve only got worse. People now assume that it's a cute cuddly ride and bring their 'cry babies'(no offense to any kids out there :)) to it only to find that the only thing different is the "alien". Bring back ALIEN ENCOUNTER PLEASE!! lol, let me go calm myself down...

SGE gets so much bad feedback that I imagine they will close it down within a year or two. The only question is, what might they put in its place? Don't count on them bringing back Alien Encounter. When was the last time Disney brought back a previously closed attraction? I don't think that's ever happened.

An interesting fact about that particular show building is that it hasn't changed much since it's debut with rocket to the moon. Rocket to the Moon, Mission to Mars, Alien Encounter, and SGE use the same layout and show rooms that have been there since the 70's. With all the different attractions that have been there, it's funny that they never gutted out the inside of the building and started from scratch.

Whenever they decide to replace SGE, it will be interesting to see if they build a brand new and innovative attraction.... or if they just use the same layout they have now, with those circular show rooms. We might just end up seeing another version of the same AE/SGE show.

Oh good, another "Let's Bag on SGE" thread.
Maybe it's just me, but I don't get the hatred for this attraction. I went in for the first time last year expected the worst attraction in the world based on all the bile spewed about it on this website. I came out the other end being more than pleasantly surprised at how much more enjoyable it was than the (in my opinion) truly lame Alien Encounter. Maybe it's because I was so disappointed with the Alien-on-a-stick and the non-binaural audio that ANYTHING seemed better than it was. Yes, I liked the preshow, yes I liked the SIR and Skippy show, but the main show itself was, well, boring. I couldn't understand why anyone might think it was at all frightening, just unnecessarily violent. Yes, darkness is scary to small children, so I could understand their fears, but I never particularly felt like any of the effects were believable.
As for children crying, I've been on it five or six times now and I have yet to hear so much as a sob...and I've been listening. I have heard children laughing, saying, "Look, it's Stitch!", and I've even heard one child call it his favorite ride in the Magic Kingdom and couldn't wait to go back and do it again. Yes, there's still darkness, but there's a character kids know and like, so I don't believe the fear factor is anywhere near the same realm as Alien Encounter. I also enjoy the story of Stitch escaping a whole lot more than the "let's see how many characters and audience members we can kill in a seven-minute span of time" show. I will admit some of the jokes are a bit corny, but kids appear to enjoy those. I'll also admit I'm quite taken with the amazing Audio-Animatronics of Stitch and the laser guns. The effects, too, are superb. Oh, and the chili dog smell doesn't bother me (I actually rather like it). I much prefer it to the skunk smells in It's Tough to be a Bug or Journey Into Imagination with Figment.
Sorry, I feel Stitch's Great Escape is an improvement in almost every way over the uber-violent Alien Encounter (which would have fit in better at Disney-MGM). I hope the attraction lasts a few more years...perhaps even with a bit of tweaking here and there. I wouldn't be against them making it even more kid-friendly.

Let`s just say if management changed, it wouldn`t be totally impossible to have AE back up and running in both chambers within a few months.

But, as you say, when has this ever happened before?

BTW; it was Flight to the Moon in WDW

They'd probably only replace it with another video screen based attraction. I think Disney doesn't want to spend the money to replace it with anything, but I'll think they'll have to do it soon with so much public dislike for it. (unless it helps sell Stitch stuff which I doubt the ride actually does, people will still buy stitch stuff even without a stitch attraction)

I'm not sure if I was even born yet when that attraction existed, so I'm actually impressed with myself for ALMOST getting the name right .

I was a huge fan of Alien Encounter. I miss it a lot, but I think Disney could effectively bring it back. The only thing I would change is the park it's located in. Alien Encounter would work well in Disney's Hollywood Studios. Think about it: Alien Encounter may not be based on a movie, but it's an amazing science-fiction adventure with awesome special effects. Besides that, DHS already has two of the scariest attractions on property (TOT and RnRC). As long as Disney stresses how scary it is to kids, then it would definitely work out.

I don't really hate SGE that much. I think the space could be used for a better attraction, but AE was definitely too intense for MK. I went on it for the first time when I was 8, and it was more terrifying than the roller coasters.

Woo Hoo yet another SGE sucks thread!! Perhaps sooner rather then later they will either replace this horrible ride or bring back the much better Alien Encounter! Either of these options would be good. If they could get on this ASAP and have it replaced before my next visit Sept 08 that would rock.... I know it won't really happen!!

I remember at least AE had a line while whenever I see SGE lines it usually is 5 minute wait to no wait at all.I hope that the big wigs notice this and whether they would bring back AE or not I hope they put something in there that draws the crowds back to that ride as it once was.

Happy Holidays, everyone!

My first time on SGE, I was as bored and frustrated with the attraction as most of you, as was my group. But here's a question...what do kids think of SGE? I mean, if its popular with little ones, then I guess SGE serves its purpose. It seems that adults (well, anyone over 8) hates it, but I've always wondered what younger kids think of it.

There are quite a few attractions throughout the 'World with limited appeal for teens and adults, but kids seem to love them. Buzz in Tomorrowland is my case and point...I have no interest in shooting targets for 5 minutes, but kids love it.

I'm not a Stitch fan, as a rule, because there's been so much Stitch overkill in the parks that his existence somewhat annoys me. And the attraction becomes increasingly boring and outdated, but if the kids like it, then what's the point of yet another abandoned attraction? WoL anyone?

I actually don't mind Stitch...which puts me in the minority of this topic.

I remember when I was younger, I was watching the Disney Channel and they had this kid going into the "Secret lab" of Disney and showing us a "Top Secret" file of upcoming attractions.

The preview he showed was of Alien Encounter, and I wanted to experience it more than anything in the world. Unfortunately it was closed and replaced with Stitch when I made my first trip.

Perhaps I don't mind Stitch because I never experienced AE?

And just my opinion, but it seems that after all of the money that Disney has pumped into this attraction to try to make it kid-friendly over the years...they won't be closing it for a few years yet.

While I've ranted about SGE, here's my opinion on it's problems.

In my opinion, WDI should have never made SGE using AE's technology. The Binural sound is something that's best used to immerse and creep you out, the fact that you need darkness for it to work alone should prove that it does not work for kids. Kids+Darkness does not equal happy kids!

Because of that, the only way they can actually make this kid friendly is to gut the main attraction concept entirely and start from scratch.

Even though they have been trying to make this attraction more kid-friendly, I feel the damage has already been done. With the period of them raising the height requirement twice to keep the younger kids out. (In irony, the younger kids was their target audience.) To putting in voices that made it the dumbist attraction ever. (Thank goodness they were taken out.) It just made the audiences bitter to no end.

Yes there are people that do enjoy it, and that's ok. Just never try convincing me that SGE is better then AE, plain and simple that's not my opinion.

However there is one thing that I will never get, hearing that AE didn't fit in MK. In my opinion, it fit perfectly. One, the theme works a whole lot better into Tomorrowland then the likes of Buzz and MILF...and two, MK is a "family" park. Family parks have to cater to everyone, the young the not-so-young etc. For me that means they have to have a nice mix of attractions, as in attractions that just focus on the little kids, attractions that focus on everyone, and attractions just for just teens and adults to enjoy.

AE was is the rare latter catagory, and it was replaced by attraction that tried to be in the "attraction for everyone catagory, but aims for the younger crowd with the humor."

So just remember this, MK is a family park...and Teens and Adults are part of the family.

I was just at SGE last week and one of the theaters broke down. We had to watch the preshow again while the CMs got us in the working theaters. After the "show", CMs gave us fast passes to any ride for the inconvenience. I think this ride needs to go, and the space needs to be totally changed to a new ride that is kid friendly. Can't think of what needs to be put in its place, but I know it shouldn't be the circular theaters they currently have.

I've always felt that Disney tried too hard with Stitch and it didn't work. The attraction is just another example of that. Use the space for some sort of much needed upgrade to Tomorrowland.

a) You`d never fit a `ride` into the space available

b) The Theatres and their infrastructure are a structural part of the building, from Utilidor base to roof level. $35m was spent in `94 just to tart up the 1971 layout. It`d cost a whole lot more to make major changes.

c) SGE is the kid-friendly attraction, if you believe management.
