The future of theme parks...

Is happening right before our eyes. It's not strapping guests to taller, faster steel structures. It's not plopping guests in a motion simulator based on the latest Michael Bay movie. It's richly detailed, immersive, interactive, nextgen, original and personal experiences.

Story time with Belle
Scuttle's scavenger hunt
Dumbo queue-less wait experience
Legend of Jack Sparrow
Agent P
Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom
Phineas and Furb and You
Interactive queues
Many others I'm sure that I'm missing

Of course, the main draws will always be the rides (some of) these experiences are attached to. However these nextgen pieces add so much more to the entire guest experience than could ever be achieved with yet another storyless screen based attraction. Bravo and huge props to Disney for proving yet again that they are true pioneers and innovators. Can't wait to take my boys next year!

If that kind of largely inane crap is what you believe is the future of theme parks, you are sadly, sadly misguided ... much like execs of WDW Co. who are spending obscene sums of money on items such as these.

Folks visit parks for experiences you can't have with a computer or iPhone or tablet. Real ... visceral ... exciting ... the thrill around the next bend on PoC ... an unexpected drop on ToT ... the what will we see next? that comes on everything from Mansion to Spidey ... from Peter Pan's Flight to KS etc.

I'm not sure what the point of the thread really is.

Again, no news, no rumors. Hasn't school started back yet?

I'm not sure why you're so angry. You should enjoy life more.

I don't think these experiences are why people are buying thousands of dollars worth of airline tickets, dining plans, park tickets, and lodging. If it were, they would have had a smash hit on their hands with DisneyQuest with just a few tweaks...

Welcome to the boards, Mr. Mongello!

Like I said, the rides will always be the main draws.

So we agree these really aren't the future of theme parks - they are just little additions that sound impressive in press releases, and are momentarily distracting to regular visitors who are craving just about anything new and half-way entertaining.

Personally, I think all these things are a great part of what makes Disney above the other theme parks. You can't get rid of (or stop maintaining) all the current rides or stop building new attractions just to add these things, but they are a welcome part of the whole product IMHO. Immersing me more in the park is never a bad thing, as long as they realize at some point that these things are the whipped cream and cherry on top of the actual things that get me through the gates in the first place.

No, I honestly think these are hugely valuable experiences.

Did you mean http://trololololololololololo.com ?? ;)

Keep calm and trolololo on.

I don't think posting something positive is trolling, but I think posting lavish praise for what people consider to be mundane, boring and generic attractions is somewhat...strange at least.

By "people" you are referring to the hyper critical groupthink of this board which does not represent the millions of people who continue to go to WDW and enjoy what the place has to offer. Man, this thread sure hit too close to home for the Uni fanboys on here.
