The Frozen 'Initiative' ...

Think for yourselfer
But old is cool, recently current is not.

Opening up an attraction based on Snow White is like releasing something based on The Beatles - nobody is ever going to complain on that choice. Opening up something big on Frozen could be like basing it on One Direction.

I really wouldn't like to call it.

Quick defense of Frozen. Based on TWDC past films that permeated the consciencness of the general public. To this point, no Disney Animated film that has reached this level of success has fizzled out. Aladdin, Mermaid, BaTB, Lion King, Snow White, it goes on.

I don't see it disappearing ala Hercules or The Hunchback. It's too engrained in us now.

The question is, are a couple M&Gs and a sing along, thrown together hastily, really the way to go? Feels like they are torn between not doing anything theme park related, and going all out, so they middled it.

I think there is a difference between a movie just being popular like the movies you mention, and what is happening with Frozen. I don't think the current level of fanaticism around Frozen will last, but that doesn't mean the movie will just disappear. Disney seems to be doing things to tap into this current level of hype before it fizzles out.

I think someone was suggesting that they might make use of the old Millionaire theater. I could easily see them creating a "world of frozen" like they did at DHS for Narnia back in what...2006? Walk through the world of frozen, faux sets that mimic the cartoon world and then you meet the frozen chicks at the end. They could even add a small ice rink like they did for DHS.

The Millionaire theater is where Toy Story is right now.

If I could armchair Imagineer a bit (something I generally despise because it always seems to be stuff of fifth gates or moving attractions from park to park ... Small World to EPCOT anyone?), I can't fathom a more perfect major addition to MK than Frozen. A park that lacks capacity and (unlike other WDW gates) actually needs more every day. A park that has been denuded over the last 15 years and feels like a concrete wasteland. A park where the IP would fit perfectly.
You know, moving "it's a small world" would open up a large area...

Yes. It is coming.

Oh, not the Maelstrom makeover that you've no doubt read about. I may have even confirmed it straight from a guy working on it!

Nope.

It's global Disney Parks.

Look for Frozen product to be rushed into HKDL and DCA next.

None of this will be top flight real attractions.

Well, except perhaps for what Tokyo will get (but you could probably figure that out!)

Interesting. I heard rumblings....

Why? Why? Why?

Because the guests want it.

The guests like it.

We may not but it's super popular and .... Hell, it's gets kids to willingly stand in the sun for an hour just to watch their heroine get pulled pasted them in a horse drawn carriage.

It's insane how popular this is. I personally don't care for it but even I can't deny it's simple, entertaining and insanely well received.

At the end of the day, it makes the guests happy.

This 'initiative' is very late and very thrown together. It speaks to Disney not having faith in its product to begin with. Frozen may well be the highest grossing animated picture of all-time, but in no way, shape or form did Disney ever have faith (other than maybe its creators in their dreams) that this would be much more successful than Princess Tangled was.

I so wish that I could drop an anecdote about someone VERY high up's reaction to the film just a little over a month prior to release, but I'd likely be a real Spirit if I did. But understand this: Disney and its leadership didn't have the faith in this and it is nothing new. The only films they feel can't miss today have Marvel in front of them.

This isn't Michael Eisner's Disney that at the very least staged lavish parades and shows and, sometimes, real attractions that debuted along with the films throughout the 90s.

I know you've stated this sentiment in the past, but I don't really agree. It's absolutely ridiculous that anyone (no matter how much 'faith' they had in the film) should have ever expected it to preform the way it did. Hoping it was in line with Tangled (a decent success in and of itself) was not a lack of faith by any stretch, it was being realistic with how those types of films have typically performed recently. It's an expectation, not a lack of faith.

I seem to remember where the Eisner days lead, Pocahontas missed the mark only because expectations were unsustainable/unrealistic on the part of the company.

Didn't Disney of old even have their films execs thought wouldn't hit the mark and shocked them (ahem Lion King)?

The poster was referring to DCA, not DHS, I believe.

The poster was referring to the old Millionaire soundstage, current home of Toy Story Midway Mania.

If people can't keep simple facts straight, it kills their argument quickly.

Soundstage One is where Wandering Oaken's/Darth's Mall is. Thats been used occasionally as an R&D place and if i recall, some executive has their project in their as of October. No idea what, just that Frozen has to end its run in SS1.

He/she was replying to my post about Frozen at DCA, where the millionaire building, now known as Stage 17, is a flex event space not tied to an attraction. 74's post doesn't mention DHS at all.

And if I had to guess, I'd say Stage 17 is a good bet for DCA's rushed Frozen "product."

Obviously the millionaire building at DHS isn't changing anytime soon, since TSMM is kind of a big deal.

The comment was about Disney's California Adventure. That is why the poster said "like they did at DHS" and "like they did for DHS."

Didnt mention DCA either. My DL friends tell me Frozen isnt as huge there as it is at WDW. Then again, WDW is a international tourist destination. DCA is not.

The Epcot Manifesto
Hey, if you want to talk DCA, there is a forum for that. "Walt Disney World News and Rumors" is not that place.

So you'll have to forgive me for assuming you meant here in Florida.
If that is the case the whole thread needs to be moved or shut down, as the OP was mostly about Frozen being added to multiple parks worldwide. DCA included. The Maelstrom rumors was mention almost in passing. I'd expect discussion on any and all parks mentioned in the OP.
I only can speak to WDW though because I nearly never make it to Cali, and likely never will make it overseas.

They should keep up with the World Showcase theme and put an ICE Bar in Norway and put the Meet and Greet elsewhere like next door between Norway and Mexico.

What they should have done is built a brand new dark ride between Norway and Mexico then you would enter the magical world of Arrendale thru Norway. You know like Diagon Alley. That would have been a creative way to put it in Epcot.
