On January 19, 2020, my husband took his first trip to Disneyland, and I took my first trip in recent memory (I went once when I was 6... vaguely remember a few things...anywho...)

The first thing we did when we got in the park, other than fail to get a boarding group for ROTR, was meander along Main Street and then hop into line for the Matterhorn. I was in California for a job interview, and we spent the time in line daydreaming about getting this dream job, and talking “would we really move across the country to California for this job?!” The day was crisp and exciting, the day before my job interview, and it all started off with the Matterhorn. My husband was floored at the idea that he can see mountains in the horizon line while riding a mountain, and started to fall in love with the state. Flash forward 8 months, and I am working at the dream job, living 15 minutes from Disneyland. What will the first ride be that we hop on? According to my husband, the Matterhorn.

I, however, really want to go on Pirates 😂

My answer? go to disneyland for the first time in forever!!! I've sadly never been to the original disneyland, but next year that will all change! As for what I would do first? I don't have a clue? Never been there to know the layout. I think the previous poster's idea of riding the train around the park is a good one, especially for someone who has never been there before. I don't know why it would be closed, as it is an outside in the fresh air type of ride.
I am curious about disneyland's POC, only because I have read on here about how superior it is to WDW's. It sounds fantastic. I want to do all the classics that WDW doesn't have too. So, I guess POC would be the first for us.

I’m trying to decide if I’d do my favorite Pirates first or Splash since I know its days are numbered. Hmmmmmm. Probably Pirates since I don’t want my feet to be soaked the rest of the day.

If you sit in the last seat in one of the 'Splash Mountain' logs, you will not have to worry about wet feet
It has never happened in all the years i have taken a ride, and until a few years ago i always requested the back seat.
The most 'wet' you will get is perhaps a light yet refreshing spray of water on your face or a couple of drips from above, but not at all a soaking.

You can specifically request the back seat from the CM at load.
Keep in mind you may have to wait a cycle or two before being able to ride.

Happy plummeting..!

I recommended the ride on the Disneyland Railroad to start the day, and recommend it to you as well !
It is a terrific way to start the day...with a grand circle tour of Disneyland Park.
Far more scenic then the WDW Railroad experience, with a lot to see along the way.
It will build your anticipation for what adventures and delights await you that day.

You will also get to see the famous Grand Canyon diorama and fabulous Primeval World diorama along the way while riding the train !
These are Walt- Era Attractions brought back to Disneyland after their run at the 1964 / 1965 New York Worlds Fair.
Must sees if you are a fan of vintage experiences and Disneyland history.
:)

Take the grand circle tour around the Park, from the Main Street train station.
Upon returning to the Main Street station, walk down the stairs to Main Street itself and choose one of the Main Street Vehicle options to cruise up the street.
It's a nice way to begin your adventure and 'welcome you' to the Park !
Be sure to spend time exploring Main Street on foot too however.
Unlike WDW, Disneyland's Main Street is not just a giant 'shopping mall'.
Check out the Main Street Cinema, ice cream shop, crystal arts shop, portrait studio, and the historic 'Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln' presentation.

Dole Whip, Pirates, Haunted Mansion (If open), Splash Mountain, rinse and repeat. Then head over to FL for some classic Disney (Toad, Alice, Peter, Pan, tea party).

And if I’m fortunate to get up in time, Rise of the Resistance. Oh, and can’t forget Disneyland popcorn. The microwave stuff at home just hasn’t been cutting it....

One day in November 2013 there was some online company that kept secretly pinning clothespins to everyones backpacks. It was a standard issue clothespin with their website on it, they were everywhere. We decided to play along the first few times we were tagged by placing each one on yet another person. It was fun haha. On what ended up being the final time someone in our group was tagged, we decided to hide it somewhere in the park just to see how long it would last. We wrote down our first names and the date then tucked it away. To my knowledge it’s still there! Checking on it would be one of my priorities

I'm not an antimasker but Disneyland with everyone wearing a mask and glass shields everywhere doesn't sound like the escapism I usually look for.
Then don't go. No one is forcing you to go. In fact I think its been made crystal clear at this point that you don't find any value in experiencing the Parks anytime soon.

However if others want to enjoy the Parks even during this time of masks and such, then let them.

For example I've walked around in 110 degree heat this weekend with a mask on, and it was tolerable. Everyone has their own levels of whats tolerable. Your level might not be the same as mine and that is perfectly fine.

So if you don't want to wear a mask while being at Disneyland, then at this point it looks like you'll be waiting until 2021 or maybe even 2022 before going.
