Rumor The EPCOT Hotel

Sooooo ANYWAYS, what is this hotel going to be. Do you think it will be IP based- if it HAD to be IP, what IP would fit best.

What theme would you want without IP. "Future" hotel is too broad- what do you want out of this hotel?
If they tie it in with the redo of EPCOT, I don't think "Future" would be too broad. If it is a monorail hotel, with really futuristic architecture, I think it could be really cool. But it would have to have design elements like you see in Dubai (look at Star Trek Beyond, they filmed all the space station scenes just on the streets and in the buildings of Dubai.)

Such an interesting topic over digital or paper- I wonder if there were more younger users on the board (no offense meant to our experienced posters), if we wouldn’t hear from them that all they read/write is now digital. Personally, I love the feel of paper, but my current reading mode seems to be the audible app and having it read everything to me... as far as official paperwork at my workplace, everything is now digital.

I’m 27 and the head of Finance and Accounting for a major D1 University Library. I still keep many, many things on paper.

From a paper making perspective, the largest drop in consumption is in the newsprint/directory (groundwood) paper market followed by printing/writing/copy paper market (freesheet).

As for newsprint/directory, 20 years ago I would get 3 different brands of phone book per year, each at 8" thick. How many phonebooks, and at what size, do you get every year now?

How many people get daily newspapers today? every time a newspaper shuts or reduces editions, demand drops off. There was a mill in Maine that back in mid 80's to early 90's that was the largest papermill in the world. The mill employed over 6000 people and was the second largest private landholder in the US next to the Catholic Church. Today it employs zero.

Paper demand is falling is some cases but is growing in others such as containerboard and towel/tissue.

Was that SD Warren. I used to live right near there in the early to mid 70s. God it had an awful smell!

Great Northern Paper - Millinocket

SD Warren is still operating as SAPPI in Somerset and Westbrook.

That smell is the smell of money. Vastly improved since the 70's

If it were to be ip I think meet the robinsons or the tomorrowland movie would fit best since both of those movies showcase what future living is like.
Other wise a good non IP theme would either be walt-style retro future, jules verne style retro future, or horizons style retro future, IMO.

As a business manager in the auto sales business, I am on the front lines of paper usage. In the last 15 years, the required paperwork has doubled, if not tripled. Between new banking regs, motor vehicle regs, privacy laws, compliance, etc. everyone is fearful of lawsuits and courts, and paperwork mitigates that risk. Although unneccessary, fear and precedent will continue the consumption of paper. By the way, the copy paper, wasted reams at a time, proudly proclaims (WBMason) product of Brazil. The rainforest!!!!!
Made me think of every damn form I had to sign when taking out a mortgage to buy our home. My favorite was the form that we had to sign that attested that we had seen all the other forms.

I like the look of that new hotel in Disneyland, could work at Epcot, but I wonder if it will age well?

I feel like the look of this will compliment the look of the Guardians gravity building. This way you have two similar large buildings on either side of Spaceship Earth, sort of framing it?

I know it’s been said that the land clearing by the Mickey solar farm is gonna be a large retention pond. But what if it ended up being a monorail station for the “EPCOT” hotel. It would slow down transit to and from EPCOT for the Epcot monorail, but they could even add a third monorail to the mix instead of the usual two. They could build the station to utilize both side of the beam there. The side headed to EPCOT could be the hotels entrance to EPCOT and exit from MK. And the side headed to TTC could be thebhitels exit from EPCOT and entrance to MK. Kinda like the Resort Beam, how they load and unload from the same side of the monorail at the resort stations. Probably not, but just a thought. Anyway here are some pics from this location as seen from the monorail.

It's been more than 'said.' It's in a permit filed with the state's water management bureau. WDW can't psych them on official documents by building something they said was going to be used for water retention.

Last I heard the resort will not have a dedicated station.

Is there any credible rumors out there of any possible themes? Sorry if this was discussed earlier....I haven't had the time to keep up with the forums with work.
