I may be wrong, but I thought the earliest incarnations of World Showcase were going to have a couple of hotels themed to some of the countries.

False. The Castle Suite is actually classified as a room of the Contemporary. The Contemporary is not located inside the Magic Kingdom.

Maybe people don’t like it since it’s another nail in EPCOTs design in the name of profit.

Change should be for the better. Not for the elite few who can afford a room.

Sorry to jump on this train late. I actually think if it is done right, it won't be a nail in EPCOT. But could be an interesting resurrection of the Epcot Center concept. A living theme park. After all the heart of Epcot Center was going to be a huge tower hotel / corporate center, if it is a futuristic hotel with amazing technology displayed. IF, but then again this is 21st disney./

No, E.P.C.O.T. was going to have a central tower. That died in 1966. The park was not.

That's what I meant. E.P.C.O.T was. So this could be a return to form if done right, again I doubt it could be done correctly but its not new territory for the concept of E.P.C.O.T. I am very well aware the Epcot walt envisioned died shortly after he did. Sorry for the lack of clarity with my use of the acronym

It’s nothing like EPCOT. It’s a hotel for rich tourists being built in a theme park parking lot.

I think you are picking on semantics here a bit. Let me rephrase my initial post so you can take a breath. E.P.C.O.T being a living laboratory of the future, infused with modern design and corporate technology display would have included a hotel tower structure/ corporate complex center. In the iteration of Epcot we got, the EPCOT center version the live in city idea died, a hotel would be a nice way to nod to the original concept.

The word "if" is a qualifier. In theory it would be an interesting call back. In practice probably not. To be fair most of the deluxe hotels are rich tourist hotels being built outside the berm of a theme park.

I have watched all your videos, I'm not trying challenge you ethos/ authority. I've read a bunch of books on it too and for sake of simplicity I am paraphrasing my thoughts here. Now despite your authority on the issue, i think reasonable minds can disagree about whether a hotel (with proper execution) could harken back original E.P.C.O.T concepts. As aside No need to pull the I know better then you card , its not flattering especially for someone as great as yourself. I truly am a fan of your work.

From the options I’ve seen I think the hotel proposals - aside from the bus station area one - will be detrimental to the existing park. I wish I could explain why, but I can’t yet.
