The Disney Store and Apple joining forces!

The "Times Square flagship" the article mentions is most likely going to be the former Mark Ecko store, across the street from the New Amsterdam Theatre, which Disney currently has a 99 year lease on (and is the current home of Mary Poppins). They were very interested in the old Virgin Records store, but Century 21 clothing has bought that space.

Their 5th Avenue World of Disney store closes on December 31.

Technically this isn't a TDS but I always thought that was a bad location

I find the "Apple store experience" to be a whipping.

9 people standing around doing nothing and you have to wait in line behind five people to check in so one will aknowledge your existance.

Apple Smug is right on.

Yeh, Apple! :ROFLOL:

Just when you thought Disney could not be even more expensive, Apple can now apply their mantra where you just make everything 50% more expensive than competitor products, but basically do the same thing! Got to love their marketing deptartment though! They are 100x better at getting people to drink the kool-aid than Disney will ever be. :ROFLOL:

Very cool!

I've never been a big apple fan... but I've been tempted recently.

I was tempted at work to go with an Apple after liking my iPhone so much, chose to get one at work, biggest computing mistake I've ever made, although I have to admit much of my early problems stem from an overly delicate Apple Mighty Mouse, other issues have just grown to bug me and I miss XP.

I really hate for my first post to be on the negative side, but this is so not true. So many people (including myself) hate walking into a store to be bombarded with employees asking "Can I help you!?" "Can I help you!?" All the Apple Store is doing is allowing the customer to tell the Specialists when they are ready to talk to someone so that we can limit the "hounding."
I really look forward to seeing how the Apple+Disney partnership turns out. I haven't set foot in a Disney Store in a long time (just not convenient for me) and I look forward to seeing if they can turn TDS into a 'destination' like an Apple Retail Store. My local Apple Store is about 30 minutes away. Best Buy? Half that. I still drive to Apple whenever I can simply because the experience is better.
With the Apple Retail experience and Disney's great guest service commitment, I look forward to seeing what the future holds.

Or if we just sold some better merchandise.

Amen. In my opinion the Disney Stores started going downhill fast when they concentrated on plastic toys, plush and misc children tshirts, most of which can be found at your local Wal-Mart.

By looking at the supposed new target market, I see that the type of merchandise is probably not going to change.

You would think they could make a lot of money selling accessories and elegant clothing for adults, but also housewares, art, etc. They used to sell that years ago, so maybe I'm wrong after all. Right now the only way to get some of that merchandise is by visiting the parks or DTD, and even then, I've noticed a decline in the quality and variety of not-for-kids merchandise.

We are lanching a few new lines around holiday time so it is slowly starting to look up.

Come to the dark side ;) (Or should I say...the light said...and leave the evil empire!)

I love the mobile checkout at the Apple Store.

Great... now CM's can act just as elitist as the folks that work at the Apple Store. :king:

FANTASTIC! :D  As a Mac Fan. I see this as a nice step forward. Would love to see some Mac influence in the parks, especially EPCOT. :D

Jer, it's common knowledge that they are better than you. The only way you can improve is to buy a Mac.
You are all Mapple people.:D

Maybe this partnership will convince Disney that adults buy stuff too.

Our local Disney Store has gobs of toys and clothes for itty bitty kids, but very little for the grown-up kids (like me).

I know I can go on-line and order stuff, but I like to look at and actually touch stuff before I buy it.

We should be launching a new adult line this year.
