Just to bring back this thread with some very depressing news....

I'm sure you all know what it is. It concerns our Joker. Looks like this may be his one and only film.

28 years old....oi.

This film is going to do incredible numbers at the box office now. Not that it would not of before, but people are going to come out in record numbers to see it. Ledger will probably be nominated for best supporting actor. He looks so great in the film and it is a shame you will not be able to see him repeat this performance.

I wonder if this is going to affect the whysoserious.com marketing campaign.

It's really sad though to see this news. He was a wonderful actor, just about to hit the big time too.

That's one of the first things that came to my mind when I read the news.

Not to sound unrespective or anything, but if they could get a new Rachel Dawes, they could always get a new Joker for Batman 3......

Hi... sorry, I haven't checked this thread since it started. What do you mean by "Batman 3"...?

Christian Bale is signed on for three or four movies total as Bruce Wayne/Batman. So after Dark Knight, there will eventually be a third movie in this series of Batman films. And as for the possibility of getting someone else to play Joker in that one, that would be assuming Joker would be coming back for it in the first place.

Exactly.

From what I'm gathering, much like most trilogies...the second film (AKA...The Dark Knight in this case) is usually not the "best" in terms of story...but just a fantastic segue towards the finale.

The first movie introduced the setting, the characters...and threw out a character that surprised people...

The second movie has the most beloved villain...and it's probably doing so because the story isn't as strong and it needed him to carry the film. Also, this movie will lead up and introduce the next villain.

The third (and possible final film) won't need to introduce the third villain as he will probably be focused on a lot by the end of the second one...so the entire story can be about Batman trying to rid Gotham of this quarter-flippin' crime boss.

If they do decide to do a fourth...I would assume The Riddler and Harlequin (as a sub-villain).

Thank you. So is this "series of Batman films" completely seperate from the series of Batman movies I've been familiar with (Batman, Batman Returns, Batman Forever, and Batman & Robin)?

It's HarmonioUS, NOT HarmoniYOU.

Yes... this is a total re-boot / re-do of the entire Batman series of movies.

This re-boot is much better and much more realist, -- ie; not so comic-book-esq as the first set of batman movies were.

I am soo saddened by this news... been bummed all week. Just horrible.

But I have heard rumors that that Dark Knight leaves a sort of exit for Joker. And that the third installment of this Batman film series is supposed to be devoted to the Dent/Two-Face character as the main villian. I am not sure how true this is though. Dent is in this one so may lead into that...

(sigh) Ah I am just sad. Such a waste of talent and beauty. :(

Everything I have read about this movie basically says Dent/Two-face will be the big villain for part 3. Of course, that doesn't mean they won't use additional villains. Batman Begins had Ra's Al Ghul as the main villain with Scarecrow working along side him. (They also mentioned other villains Batman had gone up against like Zzaz for instance.) This next film we have the Joker, as well as Harvey Dent becoming Two-face, and hopefully I am not spoiling any of this, but Scarecrow has been shown in footage still fighting. So, they might just add a few more villains in for film 3.

Which is fine, so long as they continue to do it like they did with the first film and how it seems 2 is going to go. Batman has the best rogues gallery for any comic hero, seconed by Spider-man. They could take villains like Riddler, Penguin, Catwoman, Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy or even Bane and make a good film out of it, provided they write the character right.

I wonder if we will ever see the introduction of Robin into the series?

This next Batman film will be a lasting memory to a very talented young actor just as The Crow is one for Brandon Lee.

I'd love to see what they would do with Riddler. He's actually my favorite Batman rogue.

Riddler is good, though I wasn't too crazy with Jim Carrey's performance of him in Batman Forever. The way they wrote Riddler in the Batman Animated Series was good, as well as how Jeph Loeb wrote him in Batman: Hush. He had the Riddler figure out Batman's identity. Of course, in true comic book form, he wound up getting amnesia and forgot. He has since reformed and opened his own detective agency and works the same case as Batman at times, getting in his way.

I disagree with your opinion in some cases concerning Carey's portrayal of the Riddler.

I hated the storyline surrounding the Riddler and everything that had to do with WHY the Riddler was who he was...but...at the same time, I thought that Jim Carey played the part to perfection.

Now, I don't feel Jim Carey's version of the Riddler would fit well with this series...but I do think he played an excellent Riddler.

I remember rumors going around back then that Robin Williams might play the Riddler. What do you think of that casting? I wonder how he would have been.

I loved his on the Animated series. But I have to say that the all-time greatest appearance for The Riddler was when he made a guest shot in the old "Impulse" comics.

Riddler: "I have hidden a bomb under the front porch of a house somewhere in the city. I will tell you the location in Riddle form..."

*Impulse disappears for a moment. Reappears with a bomb in his hand.*

Impulse: "Is this it?"

Riddler: "Why you! How did you find that so quickly?"

Impulse: "I just ran and checked all the houses until I found it."

Riddler: "Well... ah... I have hidden a second bomb in another location and I will..."

*Impulse takes off. Returns with another bomb in his hand.*

Impulse: "This one?"

Riddler: "How?"

Impulse: "Oh, I found that one while I was looking for the first one. But it wasn't under a house."
