The Country Bear Jamboree

Can someone help me to understand why this is still around?

We went to it during our last visit and at least half a dozen people fell asleep during the show, no one was smiling, there was hardly any clapping along... it just seems like its a very dated concept ... and very dated execution.

In fact, as we were waiting on the dock for Tiana's, my wife overheard a few of the CMs talking to each other about how disappointed everyone looks when walking out of CBJ.

This show needs to go... there's no way to update it to make it enjoyable to this generation (unless you added taylor swift?).

Thoughts?

Likely because they don't know what else to do with the space.

But let me just chime in as a 23 year old who loves the Country Bear Jamboree and claps her hands and stomps her feet with the show. Some people do like the show.

My wife and I liked it too! I know it is kinda corny and other TR's have talked about it and it has been "revamped"..but it is the "old Disney" feel to it!

I don't think there's anything wrong with the concept of bears putting on a country music show in wilderness lodge setting. I admit it is becoming dated, but I think it could be fixed with more advanced AAs and changes to the show system that allow for more than one show to be going at the same time. I've said this about the Tiki Room and it applies to CBJ, too - how hard would it be to computerize the whole thing so that shows alternate? Once the system was in place, it would just be programming the routines. If you had a random chance of seeing one of four or five different shows when you whenever you walk in, CBJ (and the Tiki Room) would see many, many more visitors.

As an aside, when I was a kid (im in my early 30s now), the CBJ was my grandfather's favorite attraction at WDW. He was probably around 70 at the time. He came with us on several family vacations, and he always had the best time in there. He really loved it.

It is still around because it is a classic and I think might be the only one still around. IMO this is one classic attraction that could go.

Don't get me wrong, I used to love it as a kid... but seeing it now, with my 2 year old sitting next to me... it just didnt feel... magical?

I love this show! As a 25 year old the show still has that "Disney" feel to it. Sure, the AAs are loud and the volume is low, but it's still a great show.

AND, so what if I fall asleep in the show? I know many people who go to HoP or AA just to take a load off and catch a quick nap.

It just needs updating. I think the script is still smart and funny. But when you can't hear any of it and the music is crackling it is very disappointing indeed. We skip it routinely but I do have fond memories of the show. I wish they would work on the audio thats all.

We had the exact opposite reaction from the crowd in Nov. Clapping, feet stomping, everyone was really into it. I would be pretty upset if Disney got rid of it, I think its hilarious.

Well that's ironic; one of the main reasons the Jamboree was kept around so long is that when it was running alongside "America Sings" everyone commented on how much more advanced Jamboree's AA's were.

I would bet that a relatively low-impact refurb adding remastered audio, improved speakers, and newer lighting would do a lot to help the show.

Also, how difficult would it be to have a 2nd show running alternately with the 1st? The Christmas and Vacation shows required set changes to the background and AAs, but a fresh set of songs shouldn't be that difficult to implement.

Agree. I remember seeing the show as a kid in the early '80's and our whole family laughing a lot and clapping along to the songs. Now, I have a hard time hearing what the bears are even saying. There seems to be a disconnect between the sound and the action on stage that I don't recall was there back when the attraction was newer. The show has some very distracting technical problems.

It simply needs a PROPER refurb. That's all.

What would you rather have? Another attraction shuttered with no replacement? Because I'm fairly certain that's what would come of the space... :brick:

You saved me from typing up a reply. The music is WAY too quiet and awkward.

Aside from the fact in exits into my children's favorite counter service spot...they want to avoid it as much as SGE....:lookaroun....I agree it is nice for a sit down a/c break though...:D Major refurb? Maybe that would help....could do without the refrain of blood in the saddle over and over....and listening to a love sick bear's sad song........

I definately did prefer the former version of Tiki Room....I just sort of really like the song and all the motion going on....except the new bird on the perch...
