Ivory Tower Squabble EST 2011. WINDMILL SURVIVOR
Figgy! Figgy! and @Mr Ferret 88 -- it's snowing outside now!!! I went out about 20 minutes ago and looked up at the sky, and stuck my tongue out to catch snowflakes!! :hilarious: I am so ecstatic!!!

(I don't think we'll get much snow, though, but what a great surprise!) :joyfull:

Our snow was a dang surprise too! :cyclops: 3 inches of packing snow.

Ivory Tower Squabble EST 2011. WINDMILL SURVIVOR
I went to CVS today to pick up my medication. I walked there, since I do not drive. I was surprised with what I found. I had to go outside to the Drive through window, to get my medication, and pay for it. The inside was boarded up. Surely, they could have come up with a better idea, for us pedestrians to get our medication, rather than having us outside amongst the cars/traffic at the Drive Up. Am I going to find the same thing at my bank, when I go there on Friday, to cash a check?

I went to two banks this morning. Actually 4. Both BOA & Chase that are the closest to me lobbies were closed and Chase there doesn't have a drive thru. BOA had one drive thru however something happened and they 'said' their system just crashed. Me it reminded me of the tone of the CMs shutting down a long queue for Dwarf coaser. So I had to go a chunk of a distance to the branches that remain opn

I'm planning on a Thanksgiving meal this week. I pulled up a turkey chest portion (decided on calling it that as it might get censored here) last night. I have some stuffing that I froze up at Thanksgiving to go with it.
Pretty sure you can say breast, just not the plural.

You had a special stuffing recipe, correct? Would you mind sharing? I love stuffing, but I can't get it here and the recipe I had wasn't very good.

You have to remember back when we were small. You didn’t need to turn 5!intil
December to start school. An October Birthday has my sister 2.5 months into college at age 17 and not being an Adult quite yet That is how so many boys went to war at 17. My Dad being one of them.
I wonder when they changed that, because I couldn't start school until I was almost 6. My birthday is in the first half of December, but the cut-off was in September sometime. Over here, the cut-off used to be October, but now it's the end of December, so A is a year younger than most of his classmates. I don't really get the whole cut-off thing..there's no magical point at which a kid is ready when they weren't the day before. It should just be on a case by case basis....some kids skip grades, some kids get held back...why are we so fixated on age when that really has nothing to do with it?

But I thought you had to be 18 to be drafted? My mom told me that her one brother wanted to go to war (WWII) but would have needed their mom's permission and she wouldn't give it. The oldest was already in the army in Europe and the younger wanted to go too, but my grandmother didn't want him to go and needed him home since my mom was so much younger and my grandpa had died when my mom was just 2. The war ended before he was old enough to enlist, just barely.

Anyone getting creative with leftovers? Share your ideas.
I made meatloaf last night. Tonight I am going to mix a few slices crumbled with pasta sauce and noodles. Plus, a salad.

Sunday, for lunch, I had some Triscuit crackers and some Jarlsberg cheese. :hungry:

For creative leftovers today, I'm going to have some Triscuit crackers and Jarlsberg cheese for lunch. :)

Apparently I went to pre-school for two years before going to grade school. I was 17 when I was in college so it would have to be after 1990, the whole age thing started. @Songbird76

I can only speak for myself graduated HS in May 1967(18) by August 67 (19) I had my draft notice which meant you were given a date for the physical -pass and you became property of Uncle Sam. If you were enrolled in college you could get a 2 S (student) deferment. 4F was a medical deferment. Can't remember what year they went to the draft lottery. I can still remember my mom checked the mail and getting the greeting from Uncle Sam letter even though I knew it was coming eventually I still remember that Oh s____ moment
The strange thing about my experience is that everyone thought I was an idiot. Perhaps this would be a good place to inject why. I had been considering the Air Force and they had a program called Medical Remedial Enlistment Program. In order to join under that program you first had to be 4F for medical reasons. Mine was weight. What happened was you enlisted and they sent you to basic training. However, there was a slight alteration to the procedure. You experienced the first 6 days of basic (which anyone can tell you is hell) and then they transferred you to the MREP squad. There you spent your days doing calisthenics and double timing everything for three hours in the morning and three hours in the afternoon, non stop. And then for good measure they threw in another two hours of Marching Drills. You ran to the chow halls were you were allotted your rations of 1200 calories per day until you could do the required 25 of everything physical, including 4 consecutive mile runs in under 6 minutes, that they considered the need to make one a soldier and had gotten down to the required weight. I don't remember exactly how long the program was until it ended in discharge. I took 7 weeks to lose 85 pounds and do the required physical steps. Then I was released back into basic to complete my other 24 days of it. Due to my inability to take much crap from anyone I managed to extend that final part into an additional 24 days. (long story)

I then went on to be assigned to a unit in Niagara Falls, NY for about 7 months, then got orders for Vietnam and returning got an assignment in Vermont, just 20 minutes from home. That is where I completed my 4 year obligation, left the service and tried not to think about it again until I reached retirement age.

I might add here that looking back it was probably the point in my life that I was able to see that I could do things that I never thought I could do and to focus in on what I wanted to accomplish to make it happen. At my retirement, I was looking for some way to afford health insurance and accidentally, at that point, found out about the Veterans Administration Health and Wellness program that included all aspects of medical care known to exist. A total godsend and payback for what was possibly four of the most miserable years I have ever experienced. Who's the dummy now?

I was one of those kids who just squeaked by through high school, rather aimless, hanging with the wrong crowd. Getting my draft notice and serving exposed me to all kinds of people and as much as I hated it for me it did a world of good. When I was discharged I took advantage of the GI bill went to college got a degree and had a good life. Without that "Greetings from Uncle Sam" no telling what my life would have been

I kind of have a recipe, I don't measure anything and learned from watching my mom. So here it is in the best way I can.

1 bag dried bread cubes
1 bag herbed bread cubes
celery and onion chopped very small
1-2 sticks butter
1 box or about 3 cans chicken broth
salt & pepper
dried sage

1. Melt butter and add celery & onions. sautee and simmer until veggies are soft, about 20-30 minutes.
2. Put bread cubes in big bowl and add: salt, pepper, and sage. How much sage? I probably add about 1 tablespoon to start but may add more based on tastings.
3. Mix spices with cubes and add some broth to start softening up the bread cubes.
4. When veggies are ready add to bread and let it cool before mixing and smooshing it with your hands.
5. Taste test and add more broth and spices as needed.
6. Put cover over bowl or put into containers for a few hours at least but best if it sits overnight. If you are going to put it in a turkey or bird to cook put aside in a container just what you think will fit in the bird so you don't contaminate it all when you go to stuff the bird. Stuffing also cooks up well in a crockpot or dish in the oven.

We have our first Corona Virus restaurant demise, and it is a shocker. Chuy's has shut their doors permanently, as of this evening.

On an even sadder note, the virus has claimed a childhood neighbor friend of my DH. I fear this is just the start.

It has been a rough day. I am so glad I have all of you to help me laugh and smile, when I need it most.

Stay safe. Stay in. Be well.
I'm so sorry for your loss, stay safe my friend xoxo
