I helped at bus duty....then...I helped kids find their homeroom teacher. After that I used my laptop to help kids who didn't know WHO their teacher was (We have all students in an attendance software program).
Now all kids are where they need to be and I don't distribute band enrollment forms until tomorrow. Free time for me ;)

Re. my DD, thanks for sharing your thought @MySmallWorldof4
Lord willing, next year she wishes to be in Virginia attending Liberty University
DD is already taking an online course from them now.
It is a general ed class that is a part of her 4 year program there.

btw....Her future college is 6.5 hours from our Brick NJ home.
Excellent for your dd. So, she has gotten accepted there? That is great! I know someone who sends her daughter to Liberty and she loves it. Best of luck to her.

It is the first day of school for my DD. Her senior year. Normally I would drive her to school....but her boyfriend asked if he could have the honor of driving her this morning. I agreed.
So here I am in my favorite chair posting w/ you nice folks.
It feels weird to tell you the truth. ( btw...I'll probably report to my teaching job today a little after 8am ).
Anyway, back to the DD growin' more mature topic....Next year when DD is in a different state and attending college it will feel even weirder! o_O

When I was in grade school and high school, we took the school bus to school. Just wondering -- why doesn't your district have school buses for the children? That aside, I hope your DD has a good first day at school.

You must have a good deal with your bank then, and that's great for you. I can tell you that our rent is higher than your mortgage. I'm beginning to think that your area of the country is far more reasonable on many things. Enjoy. :)

It was great when I bought my house... and then I got to re-mortgage it about 7 years ago to get an even lower % rate... but the housing in the last two years has been going up a lot... my house can sell for almost 40k more than I bought it for... We thought about selling, but then we would have to find another house to buy (it's hard to find one around here lately) and then we would end up paying more... it's a sellers market for sure. My mortgage is less than $700 a month.

My rent is exactly double that! :banghead:

LOL I couldn't even get an in-home daycare for that amount of money!! Her school will always be more than your mortgage until she's old enough for latch key at the YMCA

First days of college separation sometimes start at the airport. My oldest went off from Vermont to Colorado College in Colorado Springs and two years later the youngest went off to Tulane in New Orleans. Talk about separation anxiety for parents I don't think anything compares to it. Colorado wasn't as bad for that then New Orleans was at the time. New Orleans was having a major crime problem back then. Just as an example, she told me about a guy getting shot out in front of the dorm, her purse was stolen containing her/my emergency credit card, her pocket was picked during Mardi Gras, (that was just her college ID and $20.00 cash) and a friend that went out to dinner with her boyfriend and were mugged on the way back to the campus. The boyfriend was shot, but not fatally. Talk about things that will turn your hair gray. No selfies back then just phone calls when they remembered.
Yeah, she is looking at schools with palm trees. Her older brother is at school, not far from here, and is home most weekends. A lot of places he is looking at for grad school are a plane ride away. I am trying to wrap my head around the very real possibility, that one could be on the west coast, while the other is on the east coast.

Weren't you there for the last hurricane? It seems Disney might have learned a lesson after that last one. I still remember those awful wonder bread "sandwich" boxes they were not only giving out, but charging for.

(Gasp, choke, gag) That is over $400.00 a month more then the average salary was back then. But like I said, all things are relative when comparing to history.

I teach at an independent school... this year we hit 55,000 for 7th grade. Great school and philosophy, it’s hard to justify and rationalize the cost for average people but the kids are around professionals in their field. It’s the type of school that exposes them to a myriad of educational and professional opportunities that otherwise aren’t available in the public system... and that’s saying a lot considering we have some of the best public schools in the Us here in Massachusetts. Schools in this league are Ivy League factories. Of course, we could argue all day whether that is truly a measure of “success”. I see points on both sides. However, with all that said I love what I do... it’s an amazing community, we are well supported in what we do and offer, and the kids are genuinely great.

I put a "ha ha" emoji 😂 back at your question just for fun. Hey my friend...just because Steve drives his kid to school doesn't mean the entire school district doesn't have buses.
I have bus duty all ten month of the school year. ;) All schools have buses.

@MinnieM123 thank you for wishing my DD well at school.
Getting back to busing versus parent drop off....
I live in the far corner of my town.....just a 1/4 mile from the next town. We are the farthest neighborhood from the HS that my daughter's bus driver needs to pick up.
So....that driver comes to our neighborhood first and then she picks up other students as she zigs and zags thru her route. Basically the farthest kid from the school gets picked up first(mine)....and the kids closest to the school get picked up last.

So my DD takes the bus FROM school to home at the end of the day..... But I drive her to school in the morning so she does not have to be at the bus stop at 6:15am!

With transportation from me, she walks out our front door at 6:40am and she's still @ school 5 minutes before the 7am requirement.

Wow....that was a long explanation, huh!?:)
