All thing are relative, I know, but when my kids were babies through school years it cost $30.00 per day for two of them. I remember having heart failure when they raised it to $35.00 per week.

I pay $1150 a month for my daughter's daycare/school. That will go down a little next year due to kindergarten, then hopefully substantially down after that when she's in full day first grade. But it's definitely more than $35 a week.

this is a good point too, @ddbowdoin kids under 3 are free at Disney. You can maximize that at buffets and dessert parties and whatnot too. We took A when she was 2 months shy of 3 and she had a BLAST. Her favorite thing was the pool though, LOL
Maybe not cash, but that age requires a whole lot of time investment by parents. It's OK if the parents are only going for the kids, but if you like the park experience for yourself, it is quite costly in time and experience. Yes, I know it's my opinion, but I honestly never regretted waiting until they were 6 years old before going there. If others find it enjoyable, who am I to argue. 😉🙂

It is the first day of school for my DD. Her senior year. Normally I would drive her to school....but her boyfriend asked if he could have the honor of driving her this morning. I agreed.
So here I am in my favorite chair posting w/ you nice folks.
It feels weird to tell you the truth. ( btw...I'll probably report to my teaching job today a little after 8am ).
Anyway, back to the DD growin' more mature topic....Next year when DD is in a different state and attending college it will feel even weirder! o_O
I hope she has a great senior year! It is difficult to stand aside, sometimes, isn't it? But, it is part of their growing up. I got a little emotional for her first day, this year. It hit me like a ton of bricks, I only get one more first day of school picture after this. DD promised she would send me a selfie for first day of classes when she is in college. I hope she does.

(Gasp, choke, gag) That is over $400.00 a month more then the average salary was back then. But like I said, all things are relative when comparing to history.

First days of college separation sometimes start at the airport. My oldest went off from Vermont to Colorado College in Colorado Springs and two years later the youngest went off to Tulane in New Orleans. Talk about separation anxiety for parents I don't think anything compares to it. Colorado wasn't as bad for that then New Orleans was at the time. New Orleans was having a major crime problem back then. Just as an example, she told me about a guy getting shot out in front of the dorm, her purse was stolen containing her/my emergency credit card, her pocket was picked during Mardi Gras, (that was just her college ID and $20.00 cash) and a friend that went out to dinner with her boyfriend and were mugged on the way back to the campus. The boyfriend was shot, but not fatally. Talk about things that will turn your hair gray. No selfies back then just phone calls when they remembered.

That's more than my mortgage!

Yeah, her school costs have always been more than my mortgage. When she was an infant we had to provide our own diapers and milk and bottles and basically all they had to do was pick her up when she was crying and change her when she was stinky and the rest of the time she slept, but it still cost us $1379 a month. Now at least they feed her breakfast and lunch and two snacks included in the cost.

And there are cheaper centers. Not cheaper by much, but there are a few options in the $900's. For me though, I'll suck up the additional $200 a month to know she's going to a great school. She spends 10 hours a day there every weekday. That's a huge chunk of her foundational learning that would be screwed up if I prioritized money over good schooling. We just eat frugally and make it work. There's nothing else to do. Daycare is horrifically expensive

Good luck to your dd this year. It is hard to watch a part of your life change. When you have kids you think they will be around forever, but one day they are gone. Enjoy this last year of her being around the house most of the time. Is she going to school in PA? Also, good luck with your new kids this year. I expect you will have fun since you really love your job.
I helped at bus duty....then...I helped kids find their homeroom teacher. After that I used my laptop to help kids who didn't know WHO their teacher was (We have all students in an attendance software program).
Now all kids are where they need to be and I don't distribute band enrollment forms until tomorrow. Free time for me ;)

Re. my DD, thanks for sharing your thought @MySmallWorldof4
Lord willing, next year she wishes to be in Virginia attending Liberty University
DD is already taking an online course from them now.
It is a general ed class that is a part of her 4 year program there.

btw....Her future college is 6.5 hours from our Brick NJ home.

We are "in the same boat" during this school year ;)

I agree with this. We rope dropped in the mornings, got a couple hours at the park, went back to the resort for naps, hit the pool. We still accomplished a lot but we had to stay on her eating and sleeping schedule.

Now she's 4.5 and I still stay on her eating and sleeping schedule because it makes the biggest difference for the overall experience.

They're free under three but that doesn't mean they're easy, lol

I paid about that for 2 kids in daycare, and they only went part time. When I started staying home, that was a big savings for us. Unfortunately new expenses always pop up.
