Janie and Jack is one of the few stores that always had a decent selection of linen pants, jackets, vests, button ups, and ties in a wide range of boys sizes. Nordstrom, Macy’s etc always have mostly wool in-store, and a lot less colored shirts and ties.. or just a weird fit. I don’t know if that’s the same everywhere.. but it’s definitely what I’ve noticed here.

Yes, but their kids formal wear selection is horrible. Let me rephrase, horrible for 8-10 boys. Plenty of baby/toddler and 8-10 girl stuff.

I guess it depends on the Nordstroms. In Northern IL Woodfield is the worst one, Oakbrook and Old Orchard very good and Downtown better.
I always took my kids to Nordstrom Oakbrook for fancy clothes and shoes.

I remember my 8-10 son back in the days of intermediate school 3-5th grade. He very much wanted to fit in not stand out. Lived in sports hoodies, Nike shoes and basketball warm up pants or BB shorts. They all pretty much had the same spiked haircut and blue, black or gray backpacks.

These photo came up on my memories today.. Where is this kid? :(. Baby fat is totally gone, hair is getting darker by the minute.

I just want it to slowwww down!
I don’t know why, but I’ve been noticing it a lot the past 2 weeks.. maybe the missing front teeth? ;). I just feel like he’s changing so quickly the past month or so.
Maybe because his birthday is coming up quick? I swear my ds has grown another 2 inches in the last 2 weeks. Blond hair doesn't last long in the colder climates. Mine and my girls hair lighten up quick when we go down to Disney being out in the sun. Being indoors a lot up here in the north seems to keep it darker. "Sun In" helps when I miss the lighter hair.

T has started to rebel against me with clothing. He would live in Nike Elite and Under Armour if I let him. I’m a huge fan of skinny jeans and Capri pants on boys.. he had 5 pairs of jeans this winter and 3 of them still have the tags! Gap Kids, Janie and Jack, Nordstrom, Nordstrom Rack have always been my go-to.. until the past 6 months.. now I do most of his shopping at Dick’s.lol.

Honestly though I really just go to Nordstrom’s for Tom’s, Sperry’s, Lacoste (we have a Lacoste store but I have better perks from Nordstrom)..and some Polo or nicer Ralph Lauren clothes for him.. normally during triple points or another sale.. everything else he would need from there I try to find at Nordstrom Rack. Especially now that prices jumped up about $10 per item from size 7 to size 8. I HATE buying things that aren’t on sale for kids. I was obnoxious during the baby/toddler stages.. got over that by age 4.

Have you tried their black bean burger yet? It is spicy and really good! It seems to be the same as Chili's black bean burger. :hungry:
I haven’t! I’ll be sure to try it! T would probably like it as well.

Maybe that’s it. I was hoping he would have black hair anyway, so the blonde being gone really doesn’t bother me. It won’t be black, but it’s definitely a lot darker.

Speaking of birthdays and clothes.. Will you ladies give me your honest opinion about something that’s been bothering me?
Here’s T’s birthday request list this year-

Soccer rebounder.
New soccer net/goal. (Our other one is ripped)
Legos.
Ronaldo Real Madrid Jersey and shorts.
Ronaldo Portugal Jersey and shorts.
Ronaldo Portugal Warmups- shirt, jacket, and pants.
CR7 shoes.
World Cup tee shirt (non team specific).
World Cup soccer ball.

So anyway, I was talking to another mom last week at soccer practice (her son is one of T’s close friends).. was laughing about his list and expressed that he won’t be getting most of it.I’m limiting it to one jersey and one warm up... or at least as far as the actual Nike and Adidas ones (they’re about $65-$85 per item).
He’s growing so quickly that I can’t justify all of that... I don’t even think I could justify that expense for myself.

So.. she said that they don’t watch soccer at home.. her son doesn’t know about the players or World Cup.. and she was glad that he wasn’t requesting that stuff.

So then I get a text a few days ago, asking where someone would buy that stuff.. I told her.. and then she texts me back that she bought all of those items for her son. All of the clothing items on that list. Followed up with- “I bet he’ll be excited to show T when they’re together!”
What?

Is it weird that I’m bothered by it?
I don’t care what other kids have that T doesn’t.. but this specific scenario was so odd.
It’s not the first time that something similar has happened.. non clothing related, just other situations. I’m starting to second guess if maybe I should stop telling her things. I like her a lot, and I like her son.. but this is the most recent in a series of odd moments. I don’t know what it is or why it keeps happening.. but it’s starting to get on my nerves.

You can tell me if I’m the one being weird.lol. I need a total honest outside opinion.

Is that the old "Keeping up with the Jones's routine?" If someone asks my advice on things I mostly give it. I do hold back a little though on some things, like Disney. I don't like to divulge all my knowledge. ;) Clothing I always buy on sale or I don't buy it. I have even been able to sell some things on Ebay that have been outgrown, mostly ds and youngest since I can pass stuff down through the girls.

If it was me, I would have told her something along the lines of "I thought your son wasn't into all that stuff? What changed your mind?" For you actually Ebay might be a good place to search for some of the items for T. I bet someone is selling new items. Might be cheaper than retail? Of course I could be wrong. Ds isn't into sports so I never had a clothing issue. He wears what I buy him and doesn't complain. I will probably start getting him stuff from J. Crew factory and maybe Gap since he is getting too tall for the brands I have been buying.

We love Red Robin! Not a huge fan of Quaker Steak and Lube.. but to be fair, we’ve been there once, it always looks crowded.
We go to Red Robin maybe 4 times in a 365 day year. 3 out of four times I get the Royal Robin 'cause it is so cool to have a fried egg on top of the burger! Yet this time I said: "let me try something else". I'm glad I got the BANZAI burger. It had some teriyaki sauce but the special thing was the sliced pineapples on top of the burger. Really good! :hungry:

Great tip about eBay! I’ll check there for sure!
I love JCrew for kids.. we have a Factory Store closeby, and they sell a lot of Crewcuts items in there.. sometimes I find some great deals at that store!

The whole “keeping up with the Jones’s” shouldn’t apply here.. this woman’s husband has his own medical practice and she’s a SAHM.. she definitely doesn’t have to keep up with me!😂

Her kid tried out for soccer after I said that T was trying out. Back in September- I decided, because of T’s breakdown at baseball tryouts, that I wanted to get him evaluated before soccer tryouts.. and check his comfort level. One of the club’s elite coaches who’s a friend of mine- We played on the same indoor team for 2 years, and his wife played soccer with my sister in college. He invited T to practice with his team to give a less stressful eval. We missed our school practice because of it, and I felt bad about it. Told that Mom this.
Apparently she emailed the guy (his kids attend the same school as ours) and asked him to do the same for her son.
I thought- Weird, but whatever.

Same guy asked T to sub on their Futsal team a few times in early winter. I was coaching the school’s indoor team at that time.. Then he invited T to play on his indoor team for the Winter 2 session. I asked T if he wanted to, he said yes, so I didn’t coach the next session for school. When said Mom asked me why I wasn’t coaching, I told her - T is playing on another team. She asked who the coach was- I told her. Then she emailed him and asked if her son could play on the team.
He called me and asked me to maybe not tell her what T does with him, because it’s putting him in an awkward position. At that point I was a little angry. However, I Told myself that she just wants the best for her kid, and her and her husband didn’t play sports, so maybe she’s just being overzealous to make sure they’re in the loop.

I don’t know.. but I’m starting to feel like every time I tell her something, it ends up hurting T a little bit. I’m going to watch what info I disclose from here on out. I’m sure it’s all probably non-malicious.. but the Ronaldo gear was kind of the last straw.. it’s been bothering me a lot the past couple of days.
Our kids are not on the same outdoor team...but they are on the same baseball team.

This all sounds so immature when I read it in black and white lol. I’ve just never had a situation like this before.

When my son was 4 years old he was addicted to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, toys, TV, movies and clothing. When I would ask him what he wanted to wear today really meant what Turtle sweat pants/shirt or Turtle shorts/Tshirt are you going to wear today. He even had a pitchers type warm up jacket that was Turtles. I have a picture of him on stage with Robert Rabbit in Toon Town, think he got picked at age 4 because of his Turtle Clothing and in that time frame Disney had the Turtles and Turtle show at the studios.

And you have seen me over the last month. I like nice things. I rarely if ever pay retail. Nothing makes me happier than finding a bargain for me or my family.

That is kind of weird. It seems like she wants to try to one up you and copy you at the same time (even though you hadn't planned to buy all of it). I probably wouldn't share much with her any more.

I just read your other post too. And it does sound like she is trying to copy what you are doing and then do "better". She clearly isn't very imaginative or smart enough to come up with her own ideas and possibilities for her children.

Brace yourself... it only goes faster. My head still swirls when I think that my two little girls that once rushed me when I got home from work, and would jump on my knees the moment I sat down are now in their 40's. It's a good thing they don't do that anymore, but, I really do miss it.

Yeah, I just hate to think that because we’re Mom-Friends. Her kid comes to my house and vice versa. They go on play dates together..they’re in the same class, cub scouts together..and I talk to the mom on the phone or via text quite often.

I just don’t know if it’s innocent or not, but either way I’m definitely a little more on alert now.

Maybe not keeping up with the Jones's in a monetary sort of way, but definitely seems to want her son to compete with yours in some way. I would definitely not divulge so much.
