*Sigh* Why do people insist on being idiots?? They ruin it for all the people who actually follow the rules. This is why we can't have nice things. Grrr. I just don't understand what goes through a person's mind when they do stuff like that.

It's not what goes through their mind, apparently, it's what goes through system in the form of alcohol... :cautious:

I'd be ticked. I am surprised they don't offer school buses for the kids. Would they close the schools seeing that it could be unsafe for young children bike riding in the snow?
No...most kids come by taxi...it's a special school for kids with Autism, ADHD, Opposition disorder, etc. Most kids are not from our town. School buses don't exist here. If you have to be "bused" to a special school, the city pays for a taxi, but you have to live at least 6 km from the school and we fall just short of that. We are at like...5.72 km or something ridiculous like that. Just far enough to be a pain in the patootie to get there, but not far enough to qualify for assistance. And normally, it's not a big deal. I pick him up every day by bike. It's about a 25-30 minute ride depending on traffic lights and how tired he is, etc. But in this weather, it's just not safe for him and it drives me nuts that hubby writes off every solution without giving us alternatives and then basically says "Yeah...sucks to be you. Deal with it." It's not like I'm complaining about having to bike in it myself...Last week we had to take cover when the sleet was pouring down, stinging our faces. The week before that, I came home and had to hang up my pants every day because I was soaked from the rain. I'm not complaining about biking in sucky weather....I'm complaining that it's not SAFE for our kid. And if you don't want me to pay for a taxi, give me some other viable alternative instead of just saying "No, we can't afford that...find another way." WHAT other way??

That would add two days to your trip, easy. If you have the time, it's beautiful out that way though. It's near Amish country as well, so you could experience that too.

You would typically want to take Interstate 10 and 20, or at most Interstate 40. There are a lot of amazing things closer to those routes. Like iconic Route 66, which was the inspiration for the towns in the Cars movie!

Yep! I've been down parts of Route 66 back in the day...!!! :)

That truly does suck. The winter weather is not going to be your friend for sure. Too bad there wasn't another family nearby that would split a cab with you. I say take the cab just for tomorrow, and try and figure alternative means to get to school for the future. Maybe there is someone nearby who goes there?

My husband does idiotic stuff like that A LOT. I agree - try to find someone to either split a cab or that you can hitch a ride with or something. I'm surprised they don't have car-sharing or some other such thing since there aren't that many people who drive.

Maybe buy a quad bike? I dunno, sounds very complex!

Most people in the Netherlands can drive and own cars. With a population of 17 million there are over8 million cars. What we lack is space to park all those cars so you get a horrible parking garage as a space saving solution.
I am sorry your DH isn't more supportive @Songbird76. Any chance there is a neighbor with a car that you could ask for help or your in-laws ? This is a very unusual situation and I agree that DS shouldn't ride his bike if there is a good chance he will injure himself.
Best of luck tomorrow, I hope things work out.

Our biggest worry is that it will break down or stay which it seems to have been doing a lot lately. We would only have time for it when we first got to the park so if we got stuck it would mess up the rest of the day with things the kid is really looking forward to. One trip report had a couple stuck on it for forty five minutes!!

I wouldn't worry about that too much though. All rides break down from time to time--some longer than others. I was on SSE at one point back in May and the breakdown was only about 5 minutes. So your time can vary--but I want to make certain to point out that all rides do break down from time to time. It's just random.

Here's a strange Christmas order issue. I ordered dh shirts from J. Crew Factory on Black Friday. They were delivered yesterday. I went to open the box. The box was a nice cardboard gift style box where the lid opens. When I went to cut the packing tape on the seams, I noticed that someone had taken an exacto knife to the tape. It had already been opened. I ordered 4 tops. Only 3 were in the box.:mad::banghead::banghead: I checked the packing slip and there were supposed to be 4. Called J. Crew and they were super helpful. She credited me the top back and said they would look into it. They still had the missing shirt in stock so she did put in an expedited order for it. I was just shocked that the package was tampered with. It was just J. Crew. Not like it was Gucci or something. People suck.

Woof.
Yep, that is about as low as folks can get. I just don't understand...stuff I would never even think of... :cyclops:
