On a bad news day it warmed my heart that when I got home and put on the tv to check the weather they were showing people on line for hours waiting to give blood. Locals and tourists alike.

Best news I've heard all day. I woke up to the news at 4:15 AM and heard the press conference from LV. Ugh, talk about bad news to wake up to.

Comforting to hear about those good souls donating blood--thanks for sharing that. I just got home about 1/2 hour ago so I'm catching up here with the news in the background.

I will have to catch up later, but I wanted to update everyone. My son is going to be going to a different school. We have worked it out with the attendance officer that he will be homeschooled until we can get a placement in another school, hopefully with urgency. The school will provide lessons for him online for us to do with him. They said they can not offer him the help and environment that he needs. His psychological team agrees that that school is not in his best interest, but they have now agreed that we've checked off enough boxes to diagnose him as being on the Autism Spectrum. They are therefore giving us a referral to a special school that is geared towards kids with special needs, but still meets the regular curriculum requirements, and the best part is that it's a school that goes all the way through high school. They only offer Mavo and Havo, not VWO, but it's possible that by the time he would be finished he could just stream through onto VWO level in a regular school, depending on his development, etc. But this school has all the regular services that he gets now outside of school, but it's all offered onsite. So we really hope they will agree to take him. In any case, he's not going back to the school where he's bullied every day.

Good news about him leaving the school he is currently in. I hope that he will be placed in a school that will help and educate him so he can reach his full potential!:)

It is always nice to see the positive reactions of people to such negative and traumatic events. It brings back hope that people are generally good and caring. Unfortunately we don't have enough of the caring and positive news stories. I do show my one section of Social Studies CNN student news (a 10 minute program) everyday and about once a week there is a story on a CNN Hero, it is fun to see my students usually riveted to the screen during these positive stories.

That's really nice that they spell it out in a polite way. If I went on a cruise, I'd actually like to have one night where I could get all dressed up. I haven't put on anything fancy in years (I'd actually have to go buy something to wear ;)), and can't remember the last time I wore heels. So I'd like it for something different once, and the rest of the time I'd be more comfortable in casual clothing and shoes. :)

I have one pair of black heels, and I wear them once a year...for Christmas Eve church service. I used to wear fancy schmancy shoes like heels my first year teaching. That didn't even last the first year as I soon realized that I was on my feet so much that I would rather have my feet by comfy than in "pretty" shoes. I have some comfy dress shoes but they are all flats, but there are some (many) days I wear my tennis shoes to work.

Wouldn't let my girls out of the house dressed like that. Not even for Halloween.

My DD is a very conservative young woman i.e., views leggings as for under clothes vs pants so she would not even try these on. Still as I watched the HomeComing in the Park the overwhelming majority were in the Tinkerbell Dresses and Stilleto Heels that they couldn't navigate. It was an interesting hour.
