We're back from shopping and mall walking and I'm happy to report we stuck to the list and came in under budget I had one very happy unexpected surprise, I finally found a new (new to me) mom and pop fabric store that was very friendly, had good prices and they even had a few fabrics made and printed in the US I could see myself buying from them for things I would have gone to Joann's for. The gentleman knew the names of all the fabric but the woman was a wonder not only did she know the stock but had some suggestions for their uses Now for the what the moment. One of the stores we passed had a sign saying "inclusive sizing" I don't think so 4-14 is not what I'd call inclusive. Seriously think about it how many women are either a 0-2 or 16-22. To me 0-22 would be inclusive. The guys enjoyed the fabric store as much as I enjoyed getting a storage item for the boy's bathroom but I think (keeping fingers crossed my dh goes and gets a few yards of one of the fabrics that I loved but wasn't in this week's budget He asked how much of it I'd need after we left the store)

He likes animal prints I have a polka dot in mind for a dress for me a plain A line dress with polka dot box pleats inserted into the skirt portion. Sort of Mad Manish

Curious--what did you think about your visit to DisneyQuest? I haven't been there in about 5 years, and when I went, some of the games were broken. I also thought that the place was somewhat disjointed and confusing.

Prior to that visit, it had probably been 10 years approx. since I went -- on that first visit, I had fun. It just seemed like the excitement vibe wasn't happening in there on my last visit. Just wondering about your impressions of the place now.

As far as DQ, there are two main issues. First, it's dated. Second, it needs better maintenance. I'm not a gamer by any means, but I've played PC games since I was pretty young, and I do have a PS3 and Wii that I still like playing. The graphics on some of the attractions compare to games I played at least 10 years ago. Last night I was playing my Kingdom Hearts Remix game on the PS3, which came out about 3-4 years ago, and I was thinking how much better those graphics were than anything at the major attractions at DQ. Not that there's anything wrong, and older games can be fun, but you expect these attractions to be cutting edge, not dated.

Second, some of the arcade games need to be replaced and better maintained. The Guitar Hero machines were the worst culprits. Some of them I gave up on. The machine that seemed to work the best hasn't been replaced in a while. I can tell because I played it, and when the high scores came up, my name was listed. The score was from at least a year ago. Possibly longer. The machines are so heavily used that they need replacing at least once a year, preferably more like six months. Some of them could probably be located in DQ for a year and then get relocated to resorts where they'll get lighter use, and stay there until they wear out. The exception would be the classic machines, which are in the best shape.

The thing is that the whole concept of DQ is a good one. The place needs a heavy refurb and update. Some of the games (Cyberspace Mountain, Pirates, and Alien Encounter) really just need updated graphics, but are otherwise still fun. Some need major updates or replacing (Jungle Cruise, Aladdin). But with some TLC, the place could really be awesome.

In the meantime, Disney needs to cut prices. Tickets run about $44 currently. We went on Polka Dot day when tickets were half priced. When we first got there, the place was a ghost town. But once people realized that it was half priced, it suddenly got much mlre crowded. I think they should slash prices until they can figure out what to do with the space.

He is the worst president in modern history of Mexico. he pretty much destroyed PEMEX, CFE (oil and energy respectively) and stole millions (and protected other governors that stole BILLIONS in state money for personal reasons).

He also installed the first official office of media manipulation. (he has an army of internet "botters" and entire offices full of staff trained to manipulate twitter, facebook and other trending places. So he tries to counter the angry people by insulting or deviating to the opposition).

Do you think I should go with Black, pink or red with white polka dots for the inserts? I'm leaning towards black(subtle) or red (traditional) but pink might be fun. HELP! thnx

Do you think I should go with Black, pink or red with white polka dots for the inserts? I'm leaning towards black(subtle) or red (traditional) but pink might be fun. HELP! thnx

All would look great -- just depends upon your own particular taste--what color do you like the best, in general? Also, think about the length of the dress (short or long?), then think again about the color of the inserts.

That's the problem all would be good if not great. The inserts would be from the waistline to just about mid knee which seems to be a good hem line for me any longer and I seem to look shorter. I want one of each but if I do that my dh would He thinks I may have a little Disney problem I think he has big computer problem

Pretty much, that's what I've read from others who have commented on DQ. But I wanted to hear it from you, as you have a discerning eye for quality. It really is surprising for a company giant like Disney, to not make that place cutting edge. It just baffles me.

It doesn't surprise me in the least. Having been to WDW and DL right in a row, you realize very quickly that for some odd reason, they are cheap at WDW. If SGE were at DL, it would have been replaced a long time ago. Same with Universe of Energy and Mission: Space. Really, the only two major offenses at DL are those awkward PeopleMover tracks and the fact that they couldn't be bothered to make TofT somewhat appealing during its refurb. Other than that, everything is kept in tip top shape and enhanced. For instance, some of the older Fantasyland attractions have received enhancements that just help update them slightly and keep them fresh.

They also don't let unpopular attractions hang around. Case in point: there used to be an attraction in Carsland called Luigi's flying tires. There was nothing wrong with it; it just wasn't that great a ride and wasn't popular. They replaced it with Luigi's Rockin' Roadsters, which is a ton of fun. Tires hadn't been open too long, but rather than just let it continue, they developed something new. WDW, well, it would have sat there. DL also does a better job of keeping their rides up to standards. It's pretty rare to have a broken effect in a DL attraction, and I can't imagine DL letting any of their attractions go without refurbs as long as some of the WDW attractions go. And yes, if EE were in DL, the Yeti would have been fixed by now.

Not so much a company problem as a WDW problem quite honestly.

I don't know if I can help much. But it sounds like an interesting dress. Can you post a picture when it is done? I am very jealous of your sewing skills, someday I will learn how to do more.

That's a rough estimate. It can be less depending on how many tolls you feel like paying. And traffic. One nice thing about this area is you're pretty central to everything. 3-4 hours to New York, 7-8 to Boston, 1-2 to DC (though I recommend taking a train rather than driving), 2 hours to Hershey, 2 hours to Philly. WDW is less than 2 hours by plane. The Carolina beaches are about a day's ride away.

I've been wanting to for some time. My school did a trip up a few semesters ago, but by the time I found out, it was too late. My friend's aunt used to live up there, so she went a bunch of times to visit her aunt. But somehow she never saw a Boradway show. She wanted to do the opera, but I shot that down rather quickly. In spite of being in music most of my life, I've always had quite a dislike for opera music. I agreed to the ballet instead.

That's cool, so many fun places that close...!
A little different here, but, still so many fun destinations within the state, so it's cool!
The closest border to us is Louisiana, about a 5-hour drive east. El Paso to the west, on the other hand, is about 8.5 hrs. away by car.
As I posted before, Dallas about 4 hrs.
Port Aransas, our favorite Texas coastal destination, is about 4-5 hours away, depending on which route we decide to take, and how long the wait for the vehicle ferry is on the one route.
And, Houston is about 3, but, San Antonio (my hometown) is only about 1.5 hrs. down the road, with Six Flags Fiesta Texas, and SeaWorld San Antonio.
Also, New Braunfels (Schlitterbahn) is only about 1 hr. away.
New York City appears to be about a 26+ hour drive from here. I think we'll fly for that one.

I have never been to an opera either, but, I have been to a ballet.
The Nutcracker has been running for 54 years here locally during the holiday season...!

Thanks. I must be functioning on asthma brain because it didn't really even occur to me that it was asthma.

It was presenting more as cough variant asthma, which means I have a deep, barky cough. That was how my asthma presented as a kid, but it morphed more into just getting tight and not breathing. But the cough was why I thought I was sick, not asthmatic.

Right now, I am under careful observation...
