Im surprised they do not "lock down" the computers (as in freezing to prevent additional programs) and block social sites and **** sites using DNS systems like "opendns".
The combination of both makes it VERY HARD for students to install or try to find a way to "dodge" the protections and waste time.

I still found interesting that you mention online shopping after blocking facebook XD.

You lost me on some of that but no programs can be installed on our school district computers. Now students trying to hack into areas they were blocked from and they were good at did happen way back. When a new program is installed on school board members tablets or laptops tech department does the download. It has come a long way since my kids were young. My kids were really the 'test' age for regular use of computers and the staff for the most part were fighting computers and kids were leaps and bounds ahead of them. There really wasn't a great abundance of qualified tech people to hire back then and administration was even farther behind than teachers found themselves. (generalization) Gotta remember my high school experience with computers had a room filled with mainframes.

Facebook got unblocked for staff members because the new superintendent wanted to use it at work. But then no personal email accounts for staff members.o_O

When I was in elementary school, I figured out how to get around the filters so I could get on DisneyChannel.com during recess. My teachers did not care. And yes, I was dangerous with technology even back then.:hilarious:

Yeah, I remember the filters were easily bypassed back then by students and frustrated the heck out of staff.

by the way, theres 2 types of Flans in Mexico, the water one which is pretty flavourless. And usually poor people eat them. Since its cheaper.
The Restaurant flan in the other side, packs a lot of flavor and is similar to he creme brulee in texture. I always hated the diluted one and preferred the restaurant dense one with milk.

also yikes.. I wonder if I should make a list if I ever go to WDW during food and wine and get similar offers. a lot of what you mentioned sound delicious!

We knew it but we had bad timing for F&W this year. We did the cast preview and it rained very hard that evening at Epcot. We started our day at Epcot on Offical opening but Disney really miscalculated the amount of people on buses, lacked adequate staff for security check and 45 minute waits to go through ticket entry. It was a super low attendance time and Epcot was packed to the gills in the World Showcase. Staffing didn't rise. It was a big FAIL on Epcots part that day. It was also the warmest day we encountered and the World Showcase now lacks shade that it once had. We saw service dogs struggling on the concrete. Just didn't put us in the mood to eat or drink much though we did do some over the two days. We moved on cause as much as I love F&W before the drunks settle in we had much more fun elsewhere.

But we did plan this on purpose. Food and Wine vs the all the days prior where we really didn't need fastpasses for attractions. The parks won out in our decision and we had free dining and no problems getting every ADR we wanted. If I had to pick between great choices for ADRs and F&W I'd pick the free ADR table service choice. We did pad the vacation to get in a bit of F&W, weather just got us towards the end of our trip. But we only had the half day of rain so no complaints.

So do they have staff email accounts but not able to access their private non district email accounts?

They were a lot more strict in middle school than high school here. It was supposed to be that cell phones were to be off and in your backpack, and if your phone went off or you were caught with it, you were supposed to have it confiscted, and it was supposed to be picked up by a parent at the front office.

Middle school, that policy was enforced. In high school, I had my phone go off accidentally more than once and teachers never confiscated it. Even my strictest teacher never did the whole "send it down to the office" thing. If it went off, she would just tell you to turn it off, and if you were caught with it, she would take it away and give it back at the end of class. For one student who got caught a good bit, she took it for the day and let him have it back after her detention session. Just the difference between how they have to handle middle and high schoolers. Middle schoolers...just...nope.

Yeah, just don't see it relaxing in middle school. Just too many of those students are wired at that age so differently for a few short years. (not so short though if you are staff lol)

I read that article as well, actually everything they listed was stuff we dismissed. It either didn't sound good to us or as in the case of Italy, it sounded like something we could make at home. We did end up having something in every country and almost every food kiosk. But in the case of Italy we went into the Tutto Gusto Wine Celler and had a meat tray and beverages and relaxed (one of our best decisions) and in Norway since there is no F &W stand and the bakery line was too long we bought a candy bar.

I did enjoy both the articles the ewe and the yummy. The photo's really did demonstrate both types well. So glad you were able to hop down there, you seemed to be able to hit far more kiosks than we did in our 2 days of F&W.

Our 10pm news is still spitting the u turn out in some models. I'm holding out hope for everyone down there that the worst models do not happen. Time will tell. My son needs to fly out to NOLA Saturday. Lets hope that happens. He won't be a happy camper if he has to drive.
Well, the worst models did happen with Katrina.. heres hoping that does NOT happen.
being hit TWICE is terrible (reminds me of Wilma in Yucatan Mexico). and another hurricane I do not remember that emerged in the gulf of Mexico after entering the gulf of Yucatan, and then out of nowhere, turn again to hit Yucatan for a second time.

Color me curious. Do tell. What are your ratios for pools? What are your levels for safety? Do you have to be rushed to a hospital for a skin rash? A respiratory problem? Pink eye? Is being rushed to a hospital the standard for the board of health? My DD had to close both the therapy pool and main pool this past weekend. She was wrong to do that? Maintenance was wrong to use the shock solution to bring it back up to board of health standards before patrons were allowed in? Is the board of health wrong too? They have very specific guidelines. So Curious.

Son will be in attendance at the World Waterpark Association Conference which starts this Sunday and runs through next weekend in NOLA. Can you please source your data and I will forward it to him. He will be with the experts for both fresh and chlorinated water recreation.

Me my kids were competitive swimmers for two decades. We have had many a meet cancelled when pools are out of balance. So I am really curious as to where all the data and sources is coming from.

Regarding your comments above to @Goofyernmost , all I know about public pools is that they're chlorinated; but as far as the science of all that goes, I'm clueless. Yet, it makes sense to me that there could be instances of illness and/or skin irritation from public pools, if not properly maintained.

My hunch is that some people, myself included, weren't necessarily aware that swimmers had become ill, if the chemical(s) weren't properly balanced. In grade school, I went to a local YMCA (co-ed at the time), and took swimming lessons there for years. I honestly don't ever recall any kids getting ill (or a rash, or pink eye, etc.) from the water.

Yet, that's not to say it never happened. (I certainly didn't know every kid that swam there.). Also, I'd probably be unaware if the pool had been shut down (on days I wasn't there) for deep cleaning, and/or correcting the balance of the chemical(s). Guess I just took the safety of the water for granted.

Hence, unless you're in charge of a pool, (such as your son), or a swim instructor, etc., this subject might not be on your radar at all. Folks like me would just assume that chlorine would kill everything harmful -- kinda like a magic bullet! ;)

And Student Teaching is actually a great example of acceptable work without pay. Generally student teaching is a semester (here anyways) vs classroom courses being taken at a University. It is to be that semester's learning experience versus job history/employment/intern. The rubric is 'Is there already an employee being paid to fill that position and no additional employee's need to be hired if an intern wasn't doing the work.' That is the case with Student Teachers. School Districts do not fire or layoff the classroom teacher when assigning a student teacher. The classroom teacher should be watching, mentoring and guiding skills learned at their University. But if the student teacher was out sick, quit, died whatever, there is someone qualified already assigned to the particular classroom. Student teaching is more a professional courtesy to Universities and actually the schools do not benefit from the student being in a classroom as someone is already being paid to be a professional teacher. Now when someone NEEDS an intern to get everything done or they would have to hire someone that part of the rubric lends itself to being a paid position. That is what the labor board is now cleaning up the same way they are cleaning up low budget salaried employees required to work overtime without pay, thus making less than minimum wage when broken down to hours worked. Now the threshold for no overtime will be $47,500.00 salary, January 2017. Employers were just finding too many loop holes that needed to be revisited.

Hope that clears it up for you. :inlove:
I understand your opinion, but I disagree for one reason. It's a full time job. It puts a HUGE burden on the student, because they now are working full time and still need to pay for room and board. No, the school shouldn't have to pay, but then I think it's unfair to expect the student to work full time for free. If it is an unpaid position, it should not be full time. There is no way I could have done it if I hadn't been living with my mom. The thing is, with student teaching, you still have to pay all the fees and tuition and everything as a student, but you are also working full time and as a teacher, there's also work that you do at home on "your own time", like making lesson plans, correcting papers, etc. So it's hard to find a job outside of the student teaching that works with the hours you have. Yes, it's seen as being in the field rather than in the classroom, but in reality, it's a lot more hours in the classroom plus the work you have to do outside of said classroom. It works out to be a lot more than full time. And then you have to get another full time job on the side to pay your bills unless you are lucky like me and can live at home.

I'm perfectly "well", thank you. What the hell are you talking about, Gabe?!?!?! o_O
What doesn't anyone on this site not understand about not discussing politics here.
It's so simple...just do like me and don't. I'm completely blown away by the lack of understanding. What the hell is so friggin' hard to understand about that...?!?!?! o_O
I didn't talk about politics on here. I stated the existence of a satire song that I was reminded of because of the discussion of nostalgia of the simpler times of the 1950s and someone mentioned that they were not particularly nostalgic for those times because of other things that coincided with it. I didn't even post the link. I said it existed and gave the title IN SPOILER quotes for anyone who was interested. It's your choice to click or not. And I gave the warning that it would be considered political. No one made you click. I did not post the video on this site BECAUSE it's political satire. But I did not state any personal political views or disparage anyone else's. I'm sorry it upset you, but I did not force it on you or on anyone. A lot of people on here post videos and I sometimes look and sometimes I don't, depending on whether it's of interest to me. I don't find everything fun or funny, but then I just move on. But there was no "discussion" of politics here. I'll refrain from posting links to anything in the future. You said to take it elsewhere and that's exactly what I did. I kept it off here and let people go look if they wanted to see it. That hardly qualifies as "discussing" politics.
