It's a wonderful skill to have. My grandmother used to do all those types of things--crocheting, knitting, etc. She made beautiful items and gave them to all her children and grandchildren. I still have fond memories of her sitting in front of the TV, and knitting or crocheting.

(When I was about 10 years old, she tried to teach me knitting, and I didn't have the patience for it and wanted to scream! I kept knitting and then pulling out all my mistakes--finally decided this was for the birds. ) I wouldn't be adverse to trying it again, though, as an adult, but I don't know anyone now who does either knitting or crocheting.

There are youtube videos. I learned to knit with one, though I've forgotten how now. My MIL does all of it...knitting, crochetting, cross-stitch, embroidery, sewing. She's taught my daughter some of the basics and I hope she's around long enough to teach her a lot!

That is interesting about trying to eliminate cash purchases. I have been to some small stores, even a gas station once, where they gave a discount for using cash. I think they gave the discount so they didn't have to pay for the credit charge to go through. I like using cash sometimes, but I also like getting the rewards for using my credit card. I even pay by check occasionally, but I do not have a debit card as I know I would lose track of those transactions. I have enough trouble balancing my checkbook, actually it hasn't been balanced in over a year and a half. The bank keeps saying that I have more money in it than my records show, I guess that is good. It is the same amount every month, I suppose it would be safe for me to add it in now.

It gets annoying as a retailer when people get upset when you won't accept a card payment under a certain amount. It seems to be an inconvenience to carry cash. And don't get me started on what happens when you say that you don't take Apple pay or contactless

I like Gilmore Girls too, I watched it for the first time this spring on Netflix. I'm looking forward to the new episodes that are coming out this year on Netflix. Will you be able to watch them where you are?

Oh, I have the entire series on DVD...birthday present LONG ago. But it's on Netflix here, too.

Oh man....want to trade? It's in the 90s here all week and my body just doesn't handle it well. I thought I left that weather back in the US, but I guess I brought it home with me.

As someone who worked in retail/ food, I feel your pain.

On the other hand, great doughnut shop is cash only and does an amazing business. Of course it helps when the product is way better than Dunkin

Good luck with the new doctor. I hope it is one you can click with so you won't have to search around. Do you have to do blood draws tomorrow? I remember you have troubles with that, so if you do drink lots of water and keep the blood draw area warm so the veins are easy to find.

Well, the first guy I was engaged to was a non-denominational Christian and I was raised Lutheran. His mom angered my mom when they first met, before I even started dating him, by saying no son of hers would ever be allowed to be Lutheran, Catholic, or Mormon. ??? I never really understood the denomination thing to me...I feel like...I'm Christian, but I don't need a brand name on it. But my husband is agnostic and he supports me in my faith, and he will answer the kids' questions (he was raised Catholic, so he KNOWS about it, just doesn't really believe in it) and go to church with me. It works for us. I think Athiest might be harder. My husband admits he could be wrong, he just doesn't really know what to believe and there are some things he struggles with, but he's not OPPOSED to the idea, so we can compromise.

That pretty much describes me. Raised "very" Catholic, but, have become agnostic. My youngest daughter is pretty much in the same camp as me, but, my oldest is, although, not super Catholic (both she and her sister were baptized into Catholicism at around 7 years old). Just recently she had her three kids (two teens and one 3 year old, baptized along with her husband who converted from... to tell you the truth I don't know what he was. My wife was Anglican in every sense of the word, but, we never had any real problem when it came to religion. Anyway, we all are able to accept each others different beliefs and really don't discuss it very often.

It was such a big thing when I was a kid. Back then my Grandparents knew every Priest in upper New York State and on Saturday evening you couldn't make a sudden turn in their house without running into black suits and white color. Couldn't even leave without having to get on ones knee's for a blessing from whomever the designated bless-er was for the evening. Had one Uncle that went off to be a Franciscan Monk, One cousin that went off to be a Brother of Christian Instruction and two other cousins (sisters) that went off to be Nun's. Also interesting to realize that none of them stayed with it. One even got pregnant while still a Nun. Bit of a scandal with that one.

When I went to Vietnam, I came in contact with a group of Baptists that had me, involuntarily, added to their 'pray for his soul' lists. In fact, coincidentally, today, while shopping in Walmart I got a phone call from one of those groups asking me if I wanted to be included on their prayer lists and if so I should push "1" and hold on the line. I didn't wait around to find out how my 50 years old reputation finally caught up with me here in North Carolina. I'm thinking that some poster from WDWmagic turned me in.

The one that I find the weirdest is a company based in Vermont that provides three different locations to ferry across Lake Champlain to New York State. The cheapest cost is $20.00 one way and they take cash only. It is easy for those of us that lived there and knew that was the case, but, for travelers it is a total pain if they get there without enough Cash to pay for it. They have ATM machines but that ends up costing the customer even more money. I just don't understand that philosophy in this day and age. They have made a fortune hauling cars and pedestrians back and forth for as long as I can remember. I know I rode them as a young child. The family is enormously wealthy, yet, the cannot cut their customers a little slack. Heck, even if they have to raise the price to cover the cost of credit cards, get into the 21 century for heavens sake.

So what do they do when you set it off? I'm assuming there's some sort of protocol for that...so what's the next step? There's no place to take you for a search that's not in view of everyone.

They ask if you have anything in your pockets. If you've forgotten something, they'll ask you to step through again, and as long as you don't set it off again, they let you through. If you set it off and have nothing in your pockets, they have a wand they'll use.
