There is a difference between paper bags and plastic. Trees are a renewable resource, plastic bags are made from non-renewable materials and take close to forever to biodegrade. We cannot just abandon all of the accomplishments and conveniences of the centuries unless all our clothing has thousands of pockets, which also takes resources to make. It is easy to get carried away with the protection of nature. Trees are nice, but, they shouldn't just be there to look at, if they are replaceable. (yea, I know all about the Carbon Dioxide to Oxygen angle, thus the renew-ability aspect.) Along that line, where are all the people that are upset about the slaughter of trees that we hang lights and shiny objects on just to celebrate one holiday. We have to apply some common sense in our choices.
Agree, for example...the plastics used in most "fire safe" plastic trees, can take up to 1000 years to degrade.
Normal trees just get back to compost and into nature easily.
Plus most trees are harvested from christmas tree farms (which are regrown).

something similar to that happened to me and my father. We lived in a close condo with private security. It was very safe.
Since most people knew each other and the more than 90% of the condos were occupied by permanent residents (unlike other condos, where the majority were for rent).
I was helping my father use the computer and we were in my room.
Then suddenly 2 girls enter like nothing, say hi to me and my dad..
we were shocked and wondering WHO THE HECK THEY they where..
Then suddenly they walk very fast towards the door laughing and blushing trying to hide their faces..
they had entered the wrong apartment (wrong floor).

Which is pretty normal error for people who were there for the first time. (the condos were a bit elevated, and it goes as PB, Floor 2, Floor 3, Floor 4, Floor 5) but PB looked like floor 1 (the "real" floor level being the parking lot).

I watched as my mother got into the passengers seat of the wrong car at the supermarket. I tried to tell her but I couldn't stop laughing. A big dog in the back seat greeted her by barking its head off. It was funny to watch her jump out. She didn't clue in right away though. She said she was trying to figure out how the dog got in our car. Too funny!

My mom and brother used to tell me they found me in the garbage can.
I understand the jokes. Sis and I kidded each other. But, sometimes a dark side would come out, from my sister. And still does. She is critical of her daughter's , and doesn't treat anyone very nice. She was pretty mean to Mom before she passed with Alzheimer's. Hubby has said so many times she is mean to her hubby, I have to agree. I wish she could hear what she say's to people. I think she is more deaf than me!

I meant this as a joke. I guess I forgot the joke sign!

Next time you go to ride the carousel at MK, make sure to choose the horse in the middle row with the purple/lavender flowers on it's mane, and a gold ribbon on it's tail...that's Cinderella's horse. :)
I found 2 images online, but, it wouldn't let me copy them, just the links to them.

Thanks, I would like to be on Cinderella's horse. You are so kind!

But don't forget, you need to use nonrenewable resources to get from tree to paper bag. It is not just the end product that you have to worry about but the process too.

You are right, though, no matter what we do we will cause some amount of harm. The goal is to minimize it.

Also, live trees are much better than artificial in terms of the environment.

And after saying all that, I do believe the comment about the slaughter of innocent trees was a joke.
I'm so glad you got the joke. @donaldtoo and I love a good joke!

Yep, I remember some old friends of ours, when they started their family, using cloth diapers instead of disposables so as not to clog the landfills. Then I brought up the fact of how much more water they were gonna' be using, detergent they were gonna' be putting into the wastewater system, etc.
Yep, just like so many things in life, ya' gotta' kinda' try to think about all aspects. ;) :)
I think it's like life "give and take", do your best and try to find a balance.

I understood, but, I wasn't quoting you I was quoting Donaldtoo. I did get all the references as a joke, but, I wanted to make it clear that we cannot eliminate all our options and head back to the dark ages for the sake stopping the use of what god gave us to use on this planet to sustain our lives. We seem to forget that part many times. Everything, the trees, animals, the soil, the water all were put there to sustain us one way or another and in some cases they have multiple uses for that purpose. We need to use it wisely, but, wisely does not always translate to just stop using everything.

That is a very good paragraph. And I agree.

I do what I can within reason. I have a huge recycle bin that at times I fill as so many things can be tossed in there over the trash bin next to it outside. We now put our grass, twigs and other like natural products in yet another bin so this stuff no longer goes off to the landfills. I am a tree hugger. I do not have a real tree only because I am allergic though. There are tree farms for this commodity. I do get sad though progress or not when I see trees come down that don't need to. I lost 3 big ones due to age in 5 years. My home heats up much quicker now without them in the summer, my electric bill has shown that.

I'm OK with the reusable bags for products that do not ever leak. There have been so many tests of the bacteria in these reusable bags that are not really washable. And if you have to wash them then there is that too. The frugal me just reuses the plastic ones for Walt walks rather than buy more plastic bags. We still have a print newspaper delivered to the home 7 days a week. Yes we all could read online but on the flipside it employees many people to print it and deliver it so there is that. Plus the newspaper is always recycled with all the junk mail that lands in my mailbox. But as you said in a post the God Given things. I eat the fish, drink the wine but if I remember correctly I was taught this from a babe in religion class that the good book had Him eating fish and drinking wine.;)

Me, I guess I am a moderate about such things. I am not wasteful however I am a 21st century consumer.
