Ivory Tower Squabble EST 2011. WINDMILL SURVIVOR
Well, step-grandfather did well. So now we'll get to worry less for a while now.
Good News. WooHoo! Hope he rests comfy.
Well, step-grandfather did well. So now we'll get to worry less for a while now.
I always joke that when my mom is anxious or mad about something, she starts cleaning. She was on a rant once (not directed at us) and as she's ranting about it to me, cleaned the entire kitchen. Like, thoroughly. I let her do it and then pointed it out to her. She looked around, realized that I was right...and then vacuumed the entire house. Apparently, I'm exactly the same. I couldn't focus to do any reading, which is a more immediate concern, but writing a paper I had laser-focus. Of course, I'd rather write papers than study for a test, so...not terribly unusual in my case.
And listen to his wife. My grandmother apparently told him to wait for my uncle to get there and help him. She turned away to take care of something and he snuck out to the yard to do it anyway. And the next thing she knew, he was on the ground. Of course then, my dad was funny. We said he should listen to his wife, and my dad goes, "Yes, that's right." And then my mom says, "So, are you going to listen to me and not get on the roof tomorrow?" "Oh, it's fine! I can do it!" he says. Yeah. That one time he didn't listen to her, he fell off a ladder and needed stitched. Story of how my brother almost wasn't...That's good. Wishing him a speedy recovery! And to start asking others for help.![]()
Labor Day doesn't mean work! That's okay, I can laze around the house for you.I think I already started Labor Day today--began fall cleaning. Spent about 3 hours deep cleaning the kitchen, organizing, moving furniture, washing floor, washing a few pots and pans, decalcifying 3 coffee makers, washing windows, etc. I haven't even started cleaning the refrigerator or the oven yet. I'll do those tomorrow. I think I work harder at home than at work.![]()
In other news.. they blamed Mexican tomatoes a few years ago (and it was actually a factory in the US that was contaminated)
now they are blaming Mexican cucumbers.. really?

Contaminated fruit and veggies can come from different areas, whether from here in the U.S., or from Mexico or Canada. The issue with the tomatoes may not have come from Mexico a few years ago, and that's good they found the correct source, finally.
However, the cucumbers may have come from an entirely different region or farm in Mexico, and there could still be a chance that the salmonella came from there this time. We've had a number of cases in the U.S. where fruits and vegetables grown in the USA, were responsible for making some people ill. Oddly enough, one of the biggest culprits was sprouts, of all things. Hasn't happened for a few years, but I do recall some years ago that it happened about 3 times in just over a year--all different areas and different farms.
That's good to hear.Well, step-grandfather did well. So now we'll get to worry less for a while now.

Funny thing is.. there is actually a Mexican recommendation when eating watermelon.
Never eat it after 9:00 pm.
Watermelon and Sleeping cycles DO NOT GO WELL (including severe gas, diarreha and other stuff)
Glad to hear thatWell, step-grandfather did well. So now we'll get to worry less for a while now.
As a husband i have to say that when a wife says "don't do that" the husband hears that as "you can't do that" and takes it as a challenge.Well, after a stressful day, I am going to read a book and then watch some Netflix. And to all the men out there: If you're about to do something stupid, and your wife tells you not to do it, listen to your wife.![]()
I don't watch them often, bur I like some philosophy and tarte products and on QVC they are cheaper than in most stores. Their shipping has always showed up sooner than expected. I got my MIL's stick blender from them, I did a general search for the one that Came out on top for America's Test Kitchen and they had the best price. For Christmas I already have a nice piece of coal for @MR FERRETHad to laugh. I don't watch QVC, but it's amusing that the SW stuff was also being pushed on that channel. It was funny how many stores, etc. were selling SW items yesterday; most of the stores I would have never expected to see the merchandise on their shelves.
So, since you're the only person I know who watches QVC, do you buy from them often and are you pleased with the quality and shipping, etc.?
Will you be using QVC to buy a Christmas gift for @MR FERRET ?![]()
Sympathy like, I hope she gets well soon xoxoHappy Sunday Ya'll
Joined the club last night. My mum took it upon herself to head out into the garden last night (late) to sort something and proceeded to fall.
One trip to A + E later and she has a broken arm ...
Sympathy like, rant away and enjoy Europe. Not a good week for electronics. First, my phone has been acting freaky by deleting my contacts, quite randomly, to the point where I have to go into backup to restore them two to three times a day. They told me it was Clouds fault. I don't care whose fault it is... fix it!
Then my Computer decided that it was time to go to that big computer storeroom in the sky, I guess. Maybe it's fixable, I have informed my related by blood computer experts and we are going to see if it's fixable. In the meantime, I limit my usage to "Safe Mode" because otherwise everything just freezes up.
So because I have been forced to cut down on my computer stupor, I thought well, hey, why not watch a few DVD's that I hadn't seen in awhile. Wanna guess what happened there? Of course, the DVD player has also died, probably out of neglect.
On top of that I don't even want to talk about what Wall Street has been doing to ruin my retirement. So, I'm not going to talk about that. I'm thinking that this was not a good year for me to let my sister, to talk me into that trip to Europe.
Anyway, that's the end of my Saturday mid-day whining. No guarantee that it won't come back up later in the day though.
I'm currently using Safe Mode on a limited basis until we can figure this out.
Hopefully it will not be that serious and you see him soon xoxoWell, we were supposed to go up to my grandmother's today. But my almost-99-year-old step-grandfather thought that moving a tractor out of the shed by himself was a decent idea. My uncle, who owns a custom cabinetry company and who moves heavy stuff all of the time, was up there and could have easily done it himself, but step-grandfather decided to do it himself and told no one until my grandmother found him laying in the yard. They are hoping that it's just a bad sprain. But my grandmother now has to take him to the emergency room. Ugh.
