Hi everyone, We just got back from seeing the Minion movie, and I loved it, DD said 2 was better, grandson agreed with grandma, hubby couldn't remember the one he saw, but he liked this one, other grandson liked 2 also. Since this is the only one I have seen, I can't compare. Without telling too much, (I don't know to do the spoiler thing), if you love 60's music, you will like this. It was a joy to me, to hear my high school songs, again.

I'm so glad you enjoyed it, I'm not sure if we're going to have time to see it in the theater. My younger ds ant to go, maybe he'll get a copy for Christmas if we don't make it

Due to kids schedules, there is no vacation for us this summer. So, please keep all the pictures coming! I feel like I am visiting all kinds of great places, and learning so much!

I want to like this a million times. We have a goodwill and Salvation Army out here. They will take things to fill their shelters. We have done this for years. I have gotten rid of things, still working because we moved to a smaller place, and smaller kitchen.

I'm going to Salvation Army today to drop off a few bags of clothes that will never fit again. I finally got around to sorting out some of my old stuff (never knew how much)

There are episodes that have absolutely no humor (Borg episodes, I'm looking at you!). But then there's humor even when it gets very serious. And if you're watching a serious episode and you're watching them in a row. For instance, DS9 will have several episodes in a row about the Dominian war, and then throw in an episode about Ferangi (Which IMO, were funny as anything)

One of my favorite moments in the middle of seriousness...

Now I'm in the mood to watch First Contact. Too bad I have so much to do today. Oh well tomorrow the guys are going to my in laws (yard work) I'll dig it out and watch it weather permitting. If it turns out as nice as forecast I'll be in the pool FINALLY!!!!

Another busy day, but it's a happy busy as it's Farm Market Saturday! Yea me except I have to bring the dh as the place where he's looking at plumbing whatevers is right down the street It doesn't pay to make 2 trips to the same area!.

I have between now (1:50pm) and 7pm before I'm supposed to join the family for the close of shabbot (sabbath). Real religious Jewish families do not use any electronics during the sabbath, so my updates now are breaking the rules, but I'm doing this in the privacy of my own room here. I'm totally showing respect for their sabbath by also going to synagogue with them and praying in ancient Hebrew (even though I am totally lost). The one thing I hate about joining them in praying at the synagogue is that they spend more time standing and praying than sitting and praying and my feet are absolutely killing me!

Tomorrow is the beginning of the work week. First thing I have to do is go to the bank and deposit that big check. They told me at that bank that they will open a line of credit to my account when I deposit that check, as well as set up a second account for the business I am starting. Essentially, the bank is giving me a fresh clean start as far as my credit is concerned. Those here who remember me from when I was PeterAlt should understand this is a big leap forward for me!

After I take care of business, it's either back to Jerusalem, or anywhere in Israel, and maybe find an apartment. There's not much available in the Jerusalem area that is affordable, so market forces may dictate that I find a place somewhere else.

The thing is though that back then those were big ticket items and there weren't something that you could just go out and buy. Today's economy is based on the throw away mentality. They are built to not only not last forever, but to be practically impossible to repair. However, we have done something that was never done back in the day and that is to have entire industries based on recycling. All those old computers, toasters, toys, phones etc. are used to help not deplete our natural resources at the pace that we did back then. Today's water bottles, which I use only when it is more practical to carry water in an enclosed container (never at home) will be tomorrows car bumper. In the old days it was nothing more the stuff used to fill the landfills. Hording them does not help that process. Couple that with basically much more affordable prices for these items and it really has a positive impact on the environment and a positive impact on the economy.

To me, the good old days were not really that good compared to what we have today. Technology is hard sometimes to adapt to, but, with the exception of those people that have their cell phones operating constantly, head down absorbed in their own little world, our standard of life and our ways of keeping in touch are so much better that it is almost not describable. I was amazed to discover how my smart phone helped me to keep track of exercise, diet and the most convenient being the amazing "shopping list" that now allows me to be motivated to buy the right things, bypass impulse items and stick to a list saving money and useless calories. As I age I am more and more aware of how important it might be to be able to reach in my pocket and, hopefully be able to contact someone in case I have a problem medically or accidentally. To remind me of appointments, obligations or even impending weather situations. I love new technology even though I am not particularly savvy about all the ins and outs and availabilities. I use it based strictly on my needs and the frilly parts are not so important. The built in cameras and flashlights are quite cool though.

You did raise an excellent point in your first paragraph about today's recycling efforts. Agree, that is a major step forward. Thank goodness for something positive . . .

I still can't get behind technology companies that intentionally make devices that are useless within a few years (or less) and need pricey replacements. Even for people like yourself and others who love techie things (and that's a big group of people), the built-in obsolescence/continual cost factor must infuriate you as well.

But the worst part of all this (broader situation, from tech to everything else) is the "throwaway mentality" that permeates our society. You see, that's the part that punches me in the gut; it's everywhere. Kids are growing up now with this attitude as well, and I don't blame any of them for jumping on the status quo bandwagon. Their parents do it; they emulate their parents. They're bombarded with Madison Avenue hype to continually buy and upgrade, and dump whatever they have now, to do it. It certainly doesn't teach people to respect what they have. Sadly, it's the new norm.

oh, I agree with all you said, but not on the cellphones I'm afraid.
older flip phones do not have all the functionalities of the modern smartphone.
hell, because of my job, I have to have a very portable laptop and a my smart phone (I got a Note 4 )

People like you who work in the industry must have the best equipment. You need it to keep at your peak level of your job. I have no problem with that whatsoever.

Being a child of parents that were raised on farms in south-central Texas, as you know, I come from a looooong line of folks that wasted nothing, and got all the uses they could out of everything.
Also, we too, really don't have many fancy things, and tend to use everything 'til it's good and done.
That being said, we do LOVE us some communication tech.
One of the things about todays world that I really do like.

Guess we all have our vices . . .

Haven't seen either Minions movie yet. A friend of mine saw it yesterday as well, and she thought it wasn't anything special (I don't know if she saw the first one, but I assume she did as she has two children).

Most movies I never see in theaters, but on DVD months after the fact. I'm a little slow . . .

You only live once. Money well spent, I'd say.

I loved your pictures of Normandy, etc. The pictures at the memorial site were very impressive. I also agree with what your husband mentioned. But in a way, I was also thinking that this is what they fought for--people's freedom, and the right for people to enjoy a better life moving forward. So, in that sense, I'd say our brave soldiers succeeded in their outstanding, heroic efforts. Just a thought . . .

@ajrwdwgirl , the Disney Paris photos were AMAZING!!! My goodness, what a beautiful park--everything looks so new and clean, too. I never realized before what a lovely park that is. (Oddly, I just assumed if it wasn't one of the original parks here in the States, they may have not put as much effort into the design, etc., but that obviously wasn't the case in Paris!!)
