I was out for a while, your steak looks so much better than fish!Ok, now I'm up to what we did on day 5. Thanks to all of you for indulging me with letting me show my pictures and all the kind things you've said. Anyway, on Day 5 we went to Normandy. We had to meet our tour guide and group at a spot near the Eiffel tour at about 7:30am and it was a long drive to Normandy but we didn't want to drive ourselves so it was a tour group for us. We enjoyed the tour. It would have been fun to spend a little more time exploring but maybe on another trip.
The countryside out of the window in Normandy....it looked a lot like Wisconsin (especially with the cows).

Utah Beach, it was low tide when we were there, the same as when the troops would have been landing on D-day. It is amazing how wide the beach was that they would have had to cross.

There was a nice museum at Utah Beach. We would have liked to have spent more time at it but we had limited time with the group. Luckily, my husband and I are both huge history fans and WWII is a particular interest of ours so we new a lot of stuff already.

I thought these dresses were interesting. They were made by local girls from the parachutes and flags left behind by troops from D-day. It was also interesting how many houses in Normandy flew both the French and American flags, our guide said that people in Normandy are still very thankful for the American help in WWII.

Then we went to a cider farm and sampled calvados (apple brandy) and apple juice. Normandy is famous for its apple products and I guess butter too. It was the best apple juice, not sugary at all. My husband HATES apple juice and he bought two small bottles of apple juice to drink later!

Then we had lunch at in a seaside town. I don't like seafood at all but hubby had the catch of the day and raved about it. I had beef. View attachment 100576 View attachment 100577 View attachment 100578
The Normandy tour was all day so really by the time we got back into Paris at 7:30 pm, we were ready for dinner and we had to pack up. The next day we were spending just a couple of hours in Paris and then heading to Disneyland Paris for a couple days!
Our tour guide said that since we had all been punctual and even early sometimes when leaving places that we had a little extra time so we had enough time for them to take us down to Omaha beach to the memorial there. It wasn't on the tour itinerary, so we were really happy about that. The memorial was really nice, but it was a little disturbing to my husband. He thought it was disturbing because of all the happy beach goers frolicking around. He mentioned something about it at the time, and I thought it seemed a good tribute to the men who died too. I told him after all if the men who died were fighting for freedom isn't this what they were fighting for. (sorry if that sounded sappy.)

Me too MouseDreaming, I love traveling through other's experiences. It's like an armchair , guide through the world. This is the best place to be this summer!Due to kids schedules, there is no vacation for us this summer. So, please keep all the pictures coming! I feel like I am visiting all kinds of great places, and learning so much!![]()
Hubby does too, it's part of business today. He only works part time, and has to provide his stuff, but it's necessary in today's world.oh, I agree with all you said, but not on the cellphones I'm afraid.
older flip phones do not have all the functionalities of the modern smartphone.
hell, because of my job, I have to have a very portable laptop and a my smart phone (I got a Note 4 )
I agree, he sure can pick pretty girls. The young boys are having a good time too. I didn't mean anything with my post. No judgment here, we were all young once. I just wish I had his ability to step out of the box! I think "if only" will be etched on my stone!SHHHHHHH leave him alone he's young and living life.
I want to like this a million times. We have a goodwill and Salvation Army out here. They will take things to fill their shelters. We have done this for years. I have gotten rid of things, still working because we moved to a smaller place, and smaller kitchen. They're good for a lot of things. They make good packing materials as well. Newsprint with no ink means wrapping plates and things without a telltale ink blotch left on them that has to be cleaned off. When you are starting up a run it used to take about 50 to 100 copies (if not more) before you actually got any useable copies. Those were bundled up and taken to paper salvage places. I used to get them home, pallets full at a time, and burn them in my wood stove along with the wood. They burned as long as a log and were cleaner and more thoroughly consumed. Never needed to get the chimney cleaned. Just threw them in there in a bundle.
Part of the problem is that they really plan it that way. For example, I have a George Foreman grill that I really love and it works great. I am at a point where I need to replace the top and bottom grills. I went searching and found that I can buy the top and bottom grill for $125.00 total. I can buy the entire machine, brand new, for $95.00. So a unit that works perfectly well, will be junked because I'm not going to spend and additional $30.00 to fix an old grill when I can get it brand new.
Another culprit is the absolute gullibility of the public. Do you notice now that everything has a freshness date on it. These are items that are sealed and have a shelf live of years and they have made it so you throw it out if it goes past that imaginary date. Even things like milk, which you can tell when it is bad quite easily, just take a sniff, have dates and without checking I've seen people throw it out because it was a day past it's "recommended" date. Soft drinks, beer (which by the way has aging as a need to come into it's prime) and other things to numerous to mention are now being tossed out due to some vague, undefined dating process. Sometimes we get exactly what we deserve.
I loved the old rotary phones, I loved hearing the click, click, click....Push-button rotary...?!?!?!

Hubby would have loved the bypass, he is claustrophobic. He waited while I went up top. Only stayed a couple minutes...didn't want to leave him down in the bunker! You can, but there's a path now that bypasses that.
Is that the pink "princess phone"? I wanted one of those forever, too expensive.
My favorite Star Trek show, I laughed for weeks about the tribbles!
Thanks for sharing all of your trip with us, but, I especially appreciate all of this that was posted in regards to D-day and WWII. I too am a big WWII history buff. Really have no clue why, as I have no close relatives that ever served during the war. For some reason, it has just always fascinated me. I've been reading and researching since about age 8.
Everything from the late 20's, to the run-up to the Polish blitzkrieg, the Russian/Eastern front, to both the European and Pacific campaigns, and even the aftermath.
Pretty sure that plane in the pic with the D-Day markings is a B-26 Marauder, as the A-26 Invader was introduced just a coupla' weeks late for the initial Invasion/eventual liberation.![]()
Just one tidbit, of many...
Most believe the end of Hitler's Eastern Front conquest came with their defeat at the Battle of Stalingrad. Some historians disagree.....

My family; parents, and siblings were that way. I wanted to get out and experience new things. I love traveling, I wish I had the money and stamina to see the world!
I was out for a while, your steak looks so much better than fish!
So cool!
As I was reading your post about your hubbies disapproval, I was thinkin' about it exactly as you were...they fought for EXACTLY that...!![]()
We are only about 5 degrees below you in N.C. Nice day, I love heat. It's 97 here, right now, with a heat index of 102.![]()
I've also never seen Despicable Me. Or any movies involving Minions.
This sounds good to me.Not a bad idea, but we all need to start playing the lottery. Whoever wins the million dollar prize can treat the whole group to a trip to WDW!![]()
