Well, the best part was my 2 parties on friday and saturday. There wasn't much today other than plan my trip nonstop (last things.. and unlocking my credit cards. So I can use them in Florida.)

I'm now leaving in mere 5 hours.

I'm nervous as hell (first trip solo to Florida, I've done many to Pittsburgh and Houston, but noone to Florida)

Hope you relax and have an AWESOME trip!!! :joyfull:
Please, check in when you can...! :)

Have a feeling heads are going to roll over this ongoing debacle. The governor was not pleased with them, and made it clear in 2 press conferences yesterday.

So speaking of the MBTA, they have completely shut down the system today. My boss called last night and realized public transit would not be operating at all today, and for me to stay home (again . . .).

At least today is my birthday, and I'd much rather be home than at work. So I'm going to enjoy my day off!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY @MinnieM123!!!!!!! :joyfull:

I made you a cake AND a snow sculpture...!!! :)

I hope your day gets better. Please walk very slowly on the ice and in particular, watch out for black ice. It's hiding, hard to spot, and dangerous.
Like in parking spots...:cautious:

I'm writing a letter to the person who made this decision. A bunch of us are not happy about it, so we're all putting our names on it. I've got about ten people (so far) and thanks to Facebook, more requests coming in to get their names on the letter. Professionally written, reasons why we are not happy, just giving the school feedback. I really don't expect them to do much except say, "Thanks for the feedback" but they do need to know.

Even the professor was not happy about the lack of a delay. She said she was helping another professor who has a broken leg out of her car, and they both nearly fell on ice. Professor was late even though she lives 6 miles from the school. I figure when it's not just the students who aren't happy that we probably should have gone late.

Good for you and your friends for taking action. Even if you don't get the resolution you want right away, you've put them on notice that people find the driving and icy parking lot, as well as the request to attend today, just totally unacceptable under the circumstances.

It's too bad they can't have the students go online for a class, or perhaps some extra work that could be done at home, when the driving/parking conditions aren't safe.

My morning so far:
  • Nearly slipped on ice going out to my car
  • Could not get the ice off my windshield, ended up having to take my mom's car
  • Nearly slipped into another car when parking because of ice on the parking lot
  • Nearly fell on ice on the way into school
  • Ran 10 minutes late to class (professor was okay with that because she ran late too. And she nearly slipped on ice)
It's just going to be one of THOSE days, isn't it?

Oh my.
Another sympathy "like".
Hope your day gets better...STAT...! ;) :)

Today's snow update: apparently, last night the governor finally called up the national guard for assistance. (They have a lot of neat vehicles, hum-vees, huge trucks etc., and are assisting the cities and towns now where needed. They also provide other services, but I'm not exactly sure what that entails.) Heard that the Vermont National Guard is also sending down big equipment as well.

In addition, more equipment is coming in from New York and Pennsylvania.

Meanwhile, the police depts. have been driving medical personnel to and from the hospital, especially since the public transit was shut down today. It's kinda like this "all for one, one for all" team effort going on with all the first responders. :) Oh, meanwhile, the police commissioner said that crime was way down in the city during the snowstorms! HA! :p Guess the criminals are all wusses and are staying indoors. :hilarious:

Never a dull moment these days around here!! :joyfull:

My two brothers were redheads: one was carrot red, and the other was more auburn. My sister and I were blondish-brown. My parents had black hair. We figure all the babies got mixed up in the hospital every time my mother gave birth. None of us even look alike either. But since we all ended up under the same roof, we all played along . . . :hilarious:

We are Black Irish. All with very dark brown hair not red. We also have the darker skin vs the stark white. Except my sister. She has always had that toe head white blond. She still swims 5 days a week so the gray doesn't show in her hair.
