Yes, in my town every child is welcome to be on a bus. If you are 0.3 miles away from the school that's fine. No restrictions for living close or far from the school. My school dismisses at 3:25ish. Buses are on the move (once things become routine) at 3:40pm. I live 5 minutes from my school so I am home by 3:55pm if I choose to be.☺
Where I live, I am supposedly within the 2 mile limit, so I do not qualify for free busing. If you draw a straight line from my house to the high school, it is about 1.95 miles. I would need to convince some people to tear down fences, so my daughter can walk through their yard. And even if I could do that, she would need to be able to walk on water, as there is a lake in the way. So really, it is closer to a 2.5 mile walk. School doesn't see it my way, so it is $200 for me to put her on a bus. I drive her most days. And if she isn't transporting her trombone and the weather is nice, she will walk. I live in a community where sidewalk shoveling is not mandatory, so in that case, for part of her walk, she would have to walk on a busy 40mph road. And, I can't pick her up when she has a half day, as she gets out when I have to be walking into work. So, I pay it.

I feel "down" as I read your post. I'm sorry your community does that to you.

No, the debt issue lies with children who had the misfortune to not be born into a rich family. That was what I was saying. These kids that are taking advantage of the family wealth maybe dumber then a bucket of rocks, but they can buy their way to success. Who knows might even become president someday. I believe that the "higher end" schools do provide a good education, however, they provide it to kids that already have an enormous leg up on others strictly by their already established wealth.
Debt is the worst thing for anyone to have to deal with. It is a shame so many start their adult lives loaded with it.

No
Are they already spayed/neutered or do you still have to get that done?
That's good.

Belle was ten months old when I got her, so she already had all of that done.

Jasmine was only eight weeks old, so I had to figure out the spaying, the shots, etc. The county shelter will spay/neuter your pet, give them all of their shots, and microchip them for $20, so that's what I did with Jasmine. Then we had a follow up with the vet a few weeks later. That was the vet visit where Jasmine tried to escape out of the exam room. She goes to the vet on a harness and a leash now. 🙄 Only my cat...

I should have taken them back to the shelter for the last of their remaining treatments but didn't think of that. They just said to take them to the vet within 2 weeks for a free exam. I paid $80 today for their visit. Not a lot, but if I would have known they needed the shot and de-worming I would have had the shelter do it. We paid so much money for our first 2 cats spaying/ neutering. Wish I would have known that I could have brought them to the shelter for that.

Our shelters won't even let us adopt them until the spaying/neutering is complete.

Our first cat who we ended up with 4 years ago now, was a stray that found his way to my husband's office. He of course needed a friend, so we went to the pet store near our house and they had recently gotten a bunch of stray kittens. So we picked his friend from that litter. Hadn't thought about the shelter then.

That's how my outdoor cats found their way to me... strays.. but they both have their ears clipped, so I learned that meant they had been thru the TNR program. (Trap-Neuter-Release) for people who don't know. (I didn't!)

That’s how it is for my nephew. They are just under 2 miles, but it would be a horrible walk.. no way to do a straight route or avoid busy streets with no sidewalks.

I think you are just really lucky! I’ve always heard of school districts having a 2 mile rule.

The thing is though, even if someone does qualify for a bus, a 9am start time would be tough for parents. I don’t know how people in your district (or any with a 9:00 start) do it.

It’s crazy to me that in 2019 schools and sports just assume that everyone had a stay at home parent available in late mornings or late afternoons.

Listen to the Mary Poppins returns soundtrack this afternoon... I know I'm in the minority, but I love this film and soundtrack.
You aren't alone. The original was charming and certainly a classic, but, the songs in Returns were fabulous. When listened to in context with the story... "The place were lost thing go", has to tug at the heart strings. And "A cover is not the Book" is the replacement for Supercalifragilistic etc. Generally returns stuck with the same format as the original as far as how upbeat and emotional parts seem to coincide. Nicely done with just enough Cameo's to make it enjoyable and enough story connections to keep it "in the family" so to speak. The movie had so many connecting tributes to the early Mary Poppins that it was fun just to look for them. It is, overall, a little darker then the original, but, had the same type of happy ending Kite wise.
