She actually passed in her sleep at home. I was so glad that we didn’t have to make that decision.
We've had two cats that we've had to make that decision for. One was only ten, so that was worse. I remember him walking around the house wailing before we put him down. He was in so much pain; it was awful. I dread the day when I'll have to make that choice with Belle, although my vet says she's very healthy, especially for her age, so hopefully I've got many more years with her.

It's good that your dog passed in her sleep at home. That's a pet owner's dream.

If I'm not mistaken, some of the newer cars now have only keyless entry. I'm not a fan of that--prefer to have a Plan B at all times, no matter what the situation. (I always assume that eventually things break or malfunction, and I don't like to only have one option. Not having an actual key for backup makes no sense to me.) :banghead:
My jeep is keyless but there is an emergency key built into my keyfob which is kinda cool.

My cat died two years ago yesterday. We had to make that decision too. I would have been a lot better if she had passed in her sleep. It was so hard!

I agree with you, however, if you ever get a new car, most of them are now going keyless for the ignition and you have to have a fob for the car to start. There is no ignition key placement. I'm not a fan, but technology keeps moving forward.

Yep, about a decade ago during the last recession, after the firm laid me off, I had a Monday morning off from my 2 retail jobs and was helpin’ my pop with some yard work at the home of a family who he also works for at their liquor stores. They are a great and kind family, btw...!!! :)
The wife had an Audi sedan in the drive that we needed moved. She tossed my pop the fob and said “That unlocks the doors, and there’s a button on the dash that starts the car.”
So yea, that’s been around for quite a while now on many vehicles.
When this car poops out, I’ll probably just get another older used car that also still has a key...!!! ;):)

Yep, totally agree on no Plan B being available for backup.
I was thinkin’ it might also have to do with making car theft more difficult and also maybe bringing down insurance rates based on such, then I found these 2 articles...

That stinks, basil can be finicky. Grow mint it'll turn into an outdoor carpet and mojitos;)

The mint I planted is doing really well. I planted the basil where I always do and it usually thrives but not this bunch. And mojitos will be had soon, I planned on it today but I forgot to buy limes. I will be going to the store on Wednesday so I'll pick up some limes then.

Our oldest dog passed away early this morning. She at least died peacefully in the place she loved. I am guessing she was not doing well at all when I brought her to the vet Thursday. I am just glad that she went on her own terms instead of us getting faced with the decision of putting her down. We are taking her to get cremated this morning. 😪

The passing of a fur family member is always so difficult. I'm so so so sorry for your loss ❤️❤️

O.k. So you throw it through the window to get the car open, but how do you start the car without a fob or key?

Simple...
You, inconspicuously ;), walk around with a brick in your hand lookin’ for the first vehicle with the keys left in the ignition...!!! ;)

Reminds me an incident when I was a senior in HS.
We had just gotten back from an away soccer game. I got off the school bus and when I got to my car I couldn’t find my keys anywhere in my bag. Had to catch a ride home with my folks (they were at the game, but, had already headed home), and I couldn’t find the spare key anywhere.
The next morning was a Saturday, so I called a Locksmith to meet me at my car to make some new keys. Pop took me to the car.
At one point the guy was messin’ with the door window, and it just shattered...we were just standin’ there lookin’ at all the glass on the ground and inside the car...!!!!!!! :cyclops: :hilarious:
It was a 1971 Cutlass 2-door, so it had a looooong door with a looooong window...!!!!! :D
As a result, the Locksmith didn’t charge me for the service or the 2 new keys.
I made a few phone calls and found another window at a local salvage yard. We paid for it, pulled it outta’ the car at the salvage yard, and installed it ourselves in my car that afternoon.
Good times...!!!!! :happy::hilarious:;):)

It was awful when we made that decision for Moxie (our tabby). We were also cat-less for a year before getting Belle. Never again. It was awful not having cats. I'll always have them.

There's an actual key for backup. It's in the fob. For my car, if the fob is low on battery or out of battery, you just put the key up to the button and it starts. Thankfully I haven't had to test that yet. For my dad's, for some reason you drop it in the center console and it picks it up. He did end up with a dead battery in the fob and still made it home.

What was worse was when I was in college and had my old car, and the battery went dead, and the idiot AAA guy broke the ignition. And the windows were stuck down. We had to leave it there in the middle of a snowstorm. I posted about it on this thread when it happened; it was quite the saga. Thankfully I don't need to worry about that anymore. Like I said, now that I have keyless entry, I don't miss the regular key in ignition thing at all.
