Crossing my fingers and toes for you. My husband had failed back surgery, and it took us 3.5 years to get him disability (with back pay) 1 decline, and 1 appearance with a lawyer and judge. The first decline happened after 9 months of waiting, and then it took 2 years to get a court date. That's of course here in Michigan. I hope your process is better!

This court date was scheduled some time ago, and it was originally more about his back. That’s functional now (he did have surgery) so I think that part goes out the window.

We are here without representation today; I don’t know if that’s stupid.

This would be pretty much all based on blindness IMO, although if we wait a little longer, I expect serious foot issues as well.

Well I gotta tell you...it was easier with a lawyer. Hope everything goes your way!

We just had a $180 (with insurance) eye drop prescribed. I casually mentioned to the pharmacy clerk how crazy that was. She handed me a card from Bausch & Lomb and told me to call the number and answer the questions. I did, they pronounced the card “activated,” and I went back to the counter.

New price: $35. 😳😀🍸

That card apparently stays on Brian’s Walgreens file for future use. 🤩

He is in with the judge now re: disability. My goodness, I haven’t met a pleasant or competent person yet!

Expectations are low for today, expecting follow-ups if not an outright decline for now, because that one eye is in limbo until it heals from the surgery. We don’t know what it will be.

We have a letter from the eye doctor saying he is legally blind in the left eye.

They gave us a CD of medical records when we arrived, and told us to go into a room and review them for accuracy. But they called him in to see the judge after about 4 minutes, so we only got to look at one of the records. Interestingly, we learned that one doctor declared him legally blind in one eye back in 2015.
Prayers for you and Brian. Let us know how it went today.

I know someone here in his 50’s who just got approved disability 2 years ago after trying for a couple of years. He had been in and out of hospitals at that point due to pancreatic issues and other health problems. He had been an active person prior to this and he looked emaciated within a few months. He finally found the right doctors but everything took a toll on his body. Even looking as feeble as he did didn’t help the original judge. Ridiculous. I will say that I believe there is bias in the system.

I hope you get the disability now and don’t need to wait until something else happens.

My kid is a 4th grader now!!!! Where has the time gone???

Today was last day of school (10am dismissal), he’s on his way to a pool party for their grade.. meanwhile I’m frantically checking my email for his soccer offer. 😬😬😬😬

Our last game is tonight...soccer camp next week, then we’re down to only baseball for the next few weeks.. then a sports break!!!

That's funny. I don't even know where my original birth certificate is. I have two copies that are from 1997. I was born in 1995. My mom also has a copy of hers from 1997, so idk what happened in 1997. Neither does Mom. And sadly, my middle name is definitely my middle name.

We did our TSA pre check a couple of weeks ago, and my mom could not locate her marriage certificate. My dad, who probably could locate a receipt for a hot dog he bought in WDW in 1986, misplaced their marriage certificate. Which then spawned jokes about how he can't ever say he never misfiled papers, and of course me questioning if they were indeed married.

My dad did end up finding it...after my mom took a trip to the DMV for a new one. Even though he has an entire file with other documents related to their wedding, he stuck it in a binder with his high school diploma, bachelor's degree, and a letter saying he'd passed the Maryland bar exam. We are not ever letting this go.
Strange.... I have my original birth certificate and it is over 70 years old and in much better condition then I am. Stone Tablets must have a longer shelf life and are harder to loose. 😀👨‍🦲👴
Or my Mother put it in a scrap book she kept for her pride and joy. It almost never saw the light of day over all those years. It's just in a folder right now. I see no reason to think that I will need to preserve it for another 70 years.

For sure.... the lawyer told us, that the fact that it took almost 9 months to be denied the first time means they were pretty close to giving it to him, but believes it was probably denied because of his age (42 at the time) and everyone knows you almost ALWAYS get denied the first time. But I know people who barely had issue who got it right away.... so I definitely think there is bias in the system. It's frustrating.

Finally got A's exam results in the mail today! He got a perfect score, which I was already kind of half expecting. He did a different exam than DD's school used, but on the bi-annual exams, he always scored the same way she did, and she got a perfect score on hers last year, so I figured there was a good chance that he'd do the same. It doesn't really matter because his school doesn't offer the top level and there's no way we're sending him back to regular school so he can do the highest level. But it's nice for him that he has the score finally, and that he doesn't have to feel any sort of competition with DD. They both got the highest possible scores on their respective tests, so they can be really proud of themselves and how hard they worked.

Wow! That is just amazing! You must be so proud! :)
