Both of our parents have had this spam call too.
This spam call was VERY normal occurrence on my country 2 years ago.
A few of my uncles received more than 20 calls each ones. They of course called us or other cousins who the phone scammer claimed to be. So nothing serious or no more lost. But they were so relentless that the government had to step in an announce and put education pamphlets about these scams.

I never said they were "accurate". ;)There is a map of the shell approximately location from all the railbased guns.
And the Paris gun was an example. The city still had damage, including one that hit a church.

Yep, no problem, and I read the whole article (as well as have read about it many times over the years since my youth), but, ultimately, those rail guns were just pretty... ;)

Plus, Paris was never strategically bombed by the Germans during WWI, or WWII. Mostly because there were no viable strategic bombers produced by any country during WWI...they were mostly just droppin’ bombs at will out of small bi/triplane cockpits hoping they would explode...!!!!! :hilarious:

WWII, a different story. Germany began tactical and strategic bombing in full-blown warefare when they invaded Poland (The Blitzkrieg, September 1, 1939) and began bombing troops and Warsaw with JU-87 Stuka’s, etc.
The only other strategic bombing campaigns that the Nazis ever undertook where the Battle of Britain, and the bombings of Russian cities after Hitler turned on them.
They never had anything in actual full production beyond JU-88, or HE-111 twin engine medium range bombers during WWII.
There were prototypes of a “New York City Bomber” Nazi bomber built, but, that’s as far as it got. They never went anywhere.

On the other hand, between the British flying night missions, and our 8th Airforce flying day missions, we pounded the living cheese outta’ the enemy. We had no choice, the war had to end on our terms in Europe, and as well in the pacific.
Thus, ultimate weapon stuff. The buck stopped. He took full responsibility.
Massive death and destruction. War over.
Has it happened since...?

So true... I have stated before that our mouth open bewilderment that someone would not be aware of what is necessary is snobbish on our part. I would wonder in that case if they even made reservations to stay onsite. Anyway to get to my point, to the vast population in this country, WDW is a theme park. A glorified amusement park. There is no need to spend days researching to go to an amusement park. They went before and if they weren't part of a Disney discussion group, they would have no reason to think that anything has changed. After all, in this case, they were veterans, they had been there before, but, it was before the NEW Disney came into existence. This idea that people have to spend time on planning when it wasn't at all that way the last time they went, is just us feeling superior to them because we do know.

That said, I know what is necessary, but, my touring plan does not make it necessary to do any of that. I stay offsite, if I plan on eating onsite in a full service I just try a few days ahead, if I can get one, great, if not, still just fine. I even made my fastpass reservations the night before I went to the park. It was in February, but, we all know that WDW no longer has an off season. I do feel bad for people that don't know this, but, I understand why it never crosses their minds that they need to do all that intricate planning. It is just a fancy amusement park and what other one requires someone to be aware of anymore then how to get there.

Even Disney advertisement downplays all that need. When they do mention it they presented it as an enhancement. It's never if you don't make ADR's you are going to be very hungry before you find a place to eat a balanced meal and you are not going to ride very many attractions. They just make you feel that it might be good to do this stuff, but, it isn't necessary, you'll still have a great time. I still do, but, I know in advance what is going to be difficult and plan my time differently. It is much easier to be flexible when one knows exactly what will happen when you don't take those things into consideration. It seems to me that, especially if they sign up for the Magic Bus, that if they don't do this stuff they are going to be very frustrated and unhappy campers, that Disney does not finalize resort reservation until those are made an extra effort is made to make sure that everyone that agrees to be confined onsite know EXACTLY what they will need to do to make their experience a good one.

I tend to agree with a lot of this.

When the MK opened we stayed onsite when I was a child. It was generally a day or two heading to South Florida.

As an Adult I always stayed offsite at Disneyland, their onsite I can't justify.

As an Adult WDW I stayed offsite in some 5 star resorts until the Caribbean opened, the first moderate at $89 a night. We continued to stay onsite only for almost 30 years. It worked with 2 adults, 2 young children. We rarely traveled with Grandparents, we both worked outside the home, less fluff but easier we stayed onsite.

We are now mixing it up and have been for the last 3 years. We stay onsite a few times a year and on property but in 5 star resorts that cost half of what Pop or All Star does. I don't rent a car but for $7 each way I can be back to the on property resorts, Non Disney r quicker than most hotel buses could get me there. That saves so much money and has made Disney so much cheaper for us. The rooms are huge, the furnishings top of the line, no plastic floors and mattresses that I only wish I could afford myself and dining isn't closed when we return to the resort. Still during hurricane season, our long trips we stay at Disney owned resorts.

My DD has waited out the hotels to see which ones would drop the most before we picked and she booked. She did the same thing with airfare home for us, going there dropped significantly but going back did not. Ultimately she added another vacation day to our trip. Staying an addition night lowered the airfare by 2/3' for each of us. Even with paying the hotel another night it will still save hundreds of dollars. And yes, we got FP+ already for that extra day no problem.

Staying at a 5 star resort is a treat for us. We'd rarely stayed in Disney Deluxe 4 stars over the decades, more now that I have adult kids and we all cost share unlike before it was all on the parents. Things change when you have so many adults contributing, it makes Disney economical for us and those 5 star rooms can't be beat.

And now that Disney is changing their EMH drastically over the years that is the last hurdle that we crossed to mix it up. Frankly we took the Tradical Express for decades. It worked sometimes better than others. The time commitment often was frustrating. We still go that route when staying onsite but a $40 Uber gets us with our luggage to our 5 star resort for $40 dollars and we don't have to do that 3-4 hours in advance as we are
TSA Precheck. The ONLY thing we do miss is checking out and prechecking our luggage to our flight the morning of departure, I give the Skycap $10 and he does it for us curbside. Done.

I remember reading that the insistence of both Japan and Germany in building "the biggests weapons" were their downfalls.

The amount of engineering, manpower and resources needed to build one Yamato battleship, would have been enough to build up to 10 fast battleships.
Or how a single Schwerer Gustav Railway gun could have been used to build at least 100 heavy panzer tanks. Or a bunch of Panthers.

Not to mention multiple ultra big weapons that failed to be fulfilled (like the Ratte, Maus) which the wasted resources would have made them build hundreds of V2 bombs.

They said the only useful strike of these mega railway guns were hitting a few very strong ground based bunkers. (if the shell hit the place they intended to hit.. nothing survived. Taking down multiple forts and reinforced bases and storage centers).

Hello! Last night, I found out my friend had bipolar depression , do any of you have suggestions, to keep us being friends? I don’t want to lose her, as my friend, because of the this ☹

I'm sorry. 2 of my sons childhood friends have BPD. Both had what many called years ago split personalities. They can go from sweet and loving to the most hurtful people on earth. You'll see the most childish, hurtful things come out of their mouths when you don't agree with them from name calling to excuses for their horrid behaviors especially with friends and family.

You may have to take a step back if their doctors are trying to introduce medications to regulate. Both of these friends of my now adult son sought help eventually, actually their parents did. It took a while to find the right meds to kick in. My son took a leave of absence because it wasn't a safe place for him in his teens to be with either. Now these two guys are average young men as anyone. Key, their parents took charge. They refused to make excuses for horrid behaviors as acceptable.

Night and Day these young men. As adults neither can drink alcohol or all bets would be off. The meds, alcohol don't blend. Alcohol and people with Bi-Polar non meds is also a bad mix 'cause you can see them de-rail frequently. Oddly those with Bi-Polar often turn to Alcohol as their fix for their unhappiness vs seeking medical intervention.

Hang in there. Look at it as possibly being a pause in your friendship. If they accept they have a chemical imbalance and take their meds your friendship could start up again and be as strong as ever. This is a condition that can be overcome if they want to fix it. Be strong and pray the family can succeed helping their kid.

I envy you morning people. I'm a nightowl. Always up to 2:00 am in the minimum and waking up at 8 or later.

My husband is a night owl too. I've always been a morning person. Both my parents were morning people. Were your parents night people by chance?

I was just thinking the other day I wonder how much we get from our parents. A friend and I were talking about tardiness and the fact that my husbands sister is always late, and Scott would be too, if I didn't hurry him along. His mom is never late though. Not sure about his dad. My parents were the opposite. If you were on time, you were late. Must be 5 minutes early for everything. I am the same way.

I am a morning person. My parents were morning people. My dh and 3 girls are morning people. My ds was a morning person until he discovered he could do online gaming. Now he is a night owl. Makes for rough mornings for him. Oh well, if you want to play your sleep is gonna pay. ;)

Oh yes there are, and they happen more often a day or two after tax day, so they can try to scare someone that they needed to pay up on their taxes, which were overdue. (Just heard that on the news tonight.)
I didn't even file this year. I didn't have enough taxable income to owe anything, I hadn't paid anything in advance into the IRS so my refund was zero. I tried that company that advertised FREE, FREE, FREE but since I had some investment accounts that, thanks to "the greatest economy ever", didn't do all that well last year, so in order to file, which I was planning to do in spite of that, the FFF place was willing to charge me $40.00 to file. Free, must have a definition a little different then I remember being taught. Anyway, being over 70, not enough income from outside sources, no refund, I decided to just not file since from what I understand saves us all a lot of useless paperwork. The government already knows every bit of income I have anyway. If they send me to jail, it will eliminate my needing to find a new apartment this year, and save me tons in food and other, cost of freedom, expenses. :D

It’s actually going really well! She’s a smart woman, (a very pretty one at that 😁). She knows when to control her emotions, so I'm not worried about the future 😄

That’s awful.

Speaking of taxes, I owe Federal tax for the first time ever. Usually I get a refund of at least $1,500. This year I owed $360. I won’t get into the politics of this here but we all know why this happened.

Anyway, I know, it’s not that much, but I was seething when I entered my bank info into the tax program I was using so the IRS could suck it right out. And suck it right out they did. It was gone the next day. Meanwhile, if you get a refund, they take their own sweet time.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Probably the payment was due on the golf cart. 🤬
