Another snow day. Today is our 10th one this year. Ugh! I haven’t looked outside yet but I saw on Facebook the sheriff department advised no travel due to whiteout conditions and someone else posted the had 5-7 inches already with more to come. 😡

Ugh I'm so sorry... it did as I predicted and sort of fizzled out over the lake... nothing stuck at my house, but here at work, the grass has a little snow on it.

No
as in long term refurbishment/repair? or it has reached the final life of its structural integrity?
See, that is the tricky part.

It probably needs to be completely replaced. They closed it for several months a couple of years ago for repairs and reopened it. Meanwhile, its "twin" was completely replaced 15 years ago. They're both historical, so they remain standing but not in use (I think you can walk over the twin, just not drive over it).

BUT...

The bridge is physically in Baltimore County but is under the City's maintenance. Several roads in that area run near watersheds only used by the city, so they maintain those roads. The City is, well, the city (if you want an interesting read, look up its mayor, Catherine Pugh, and you'll get it a bit more) and they will bandaid the problem rather than solving it because hey, their residents don't live there, so why should they care?

The county seriously needs to put some pressure on the city to repair or replace that bridge. Too many people drive over it on a daily basis.

Aldi is literally next door to Albert Heijn...they share a building. And I walk to the store, so there's no gas money. I do buy some things at Aldi, but not much...and the cashiers at Albert Heijn are SO much nicer. I don't know why, but the majority of the people at our Aldi seem annoyed if you ask a question like....where to find something, or if something is just out of stock or if it's gone forever. The ones at Albert Heijn bend over backwards to try to help you, and if they can't answer your question, they'll go get one of the managers to help you. That's probably just our Aldi though. I'm betting it's not like that everywhere. I went in once, and they don't have baskets, and I had just gone in for one thing, so I hadn't gotten a cart. The carts are outside and you have to have a 1 euro coin to get one out (you get it back when you return the cart). So I got the one item I needed, and I was walking through and I remembered I needed peanut butter, so I grabbed a jar, and then I saw something else I needed. I was trying to hold it all, but the peanut butter slipped and fell and the jar broke. I felt really bad and I offered to pay for it, plus the new jar but the cashier chewed me out about not getting a cart, and was just really mean about it. You'd have thought I ran over someone's pet the way she scolded me, and I was like...look, if you don't want people to carry things, provide baskets. I did not need a cart for 3 items...I'm just a clutz. It's not like I purposely dropped it, and I offered to pay for it since it was my fault.
Anyway, I just avoid Aldi if I can. Like I said, maybe it's just our Aldi...maybe others are 100 times better. I just dislike going in there. It gives me a really bad vibe and I can't wait to leave, and the lines are always really long. Now I want to go to one in the US just to compare.
The people at the Aldis by me also tend to be crabby, but I totally understand it. They usually have no more than three people on the floor at a time, including the cashiers. That is part of how they hold down costs. I went there last weekend. Our store is being remodeled, and all the windows are covered. On top of that, they were trying to get people to stop taking the carts they use up front. There are signs posted, you have to get carts from outside now. It was raining. (Our carts are a quarter deposit). Anywho, sounds like someone was kept trying to walk off with one of the register carts, and despite the cashier raising her voice by the fifth time, yelling, was still trying to grab it. So, yeah, I understand why they are crabby. I would be, too.

Thanks for that. I’d say ours are maybe 1/3 larger. Almost all have been remodeled in the last 1.5 years and set up reset. All are utilitarian.

Aldi has a unique business model here. They stock canned goods, refrigerated, frozen and most produce in their cardboard boxes they were shipped in shipped in. Employees are trained to do every position. Replacement food comes daily. Produce is always fresh. Overwhelmingly their food is generic. Their breads are equal to house brands in large chains. That is were I see the most choices. Their prices are better than Walmart by a lot. Most products are good quality.

I buy a lot of my staples there from spices to frozen green beans also items like diced tomatoes and sauce I buy in volume. Items like their carrots always have the best flavor. The most employees I’ve seen at one here is 3 at a time. Here they pay better than most similar stores and are always cheerful.
Obviously, you aren't at my Aldi, then. After the remodel, ours will be a little larger, and the locals are griping because a neighboring town with a newer Aldi has a bakery on premesis. There is no plan for that here.

Did I read that right? You got the Meatballs from Portillo's? Well there happens to be one right in St Charles near the hotel my hubby's convention is at... so I guess I could try them... not sure if I can stop myself from the roast beef though!
Pheasant Run?
Edit- should have kept reading. DS has a gig or two booked there. Not til summer, though.

I'd be ordering the beef, sweet peppers please and extra juicy.

I'd also recommend McNally's on Main Street real close to the River. It is a small Irish Pub and Restaurant. Food is standard Bar Type but prepared so well. I go to the Scarecrowfest there every year. It is really nice. The only hotel I've stayed in while in St. Charles is Pheasant Run. I was at a convention.
Dont forget Wahlburgers just opened in St. Charles.
