Ivory Tower Squabble EST 2011. WINDMILL SURVIVOR
To this day I have never owned a car, I'm quite happy about that since I know no matter what country you live in they are expensive to buy and drive.

When I retire, soon I hope maybe I will live in a place where there is a way to move about without NEEDING a car. Now it isn't possible. But the cost of the car, repairs, taxes, tolls, licences, gas, insurance....I could take a lot of Ubers or public transportation and still come out ahead.

Alright so me being me, I’ve decided to nix the June cruise and do Punta Cana the same dates instead. Neither Tristan or I are excited about a Bermuda cruise. He wants to go to more than one stop on a cruise, and I’m not doing a Caribbean cruise in June!

Has anyone been to Punta Cana with their kids? I’m so torn about where to stay. I always did adult-only resorts prior to Tristan.

The front runner right now is The Level at Meliá Caribe Tropical.
Two cons though-
  1. Huge resort. Elevenhundredsomethingrooms
  2. Guest rooms are not ocean view.
@RedNoseMickey , have you stayed at a Meliá hotel in Europe?
I haven't stayed at Meliá hotel, sorry. I have been to Punta Cana and didn't enjoy it. This was over 10 years ago and I only went once to an all inclusive resort with little villas spread out along the beach but it was boring and felt a bit like a luxury prison since it had a huge fence around it and guards patrolling.

When I mention heat and humidity this summer it will be with lots of cheer behind it.:) We've had over 30 inches of snow this month, and oh yeah we are in a blizzard warning tonight with 6-12 more inches possible. I'm so ready to move, hubs on the other hand still is not.:cold:
The like is for not complaining about the heat. Sending warm {{HUGS}}, beer and ammo. Stay safe and inside my friend.

We never bought the cheaper end of VHS tapes, nor did my Dad buy cheap 8mm home movie tape. My house was always at 68 degrees, summer and winter with heat or Air Conditioning. So the VHS tapes lived on main floor so were never exposed to much. My Dads 8mm were always in a basement where conditions did change over the years. Some of it it gets slightly red or orange in places but still in pretty good shape, no idea why. That home movie equipment from the 1960's is hard to find.
We don't skimp on electronics or appliances ether and have saved in the long run;)

For some reason I thought those gondolas were going to be bigger, to accommodate more people and an ECV, they don't look big enough for that to me.

Good observation -- I had also wondered about the ECVs. I was thinking maybe they might have (some) of them specially designed for the ECV people, which would mean that let's say (hypothetically) every 8th gondola would be ECV.

But then, that wouldn't make much sense either--so maybe all the gondolas are built exactly the same inside, and the ECV guests may not be able to bring a family of 8 with them, but maybe 4 -- and then the other 4 would be in a gondola directly following?

This is why I'm not in charge of the gondola project--clueless about all this stuff!! ;)

Uni has been doing a pretty nice job of methodically transitioning from a mix of amusement park vs themepark to their model over the last decade or so to a focus on a themepark. They successfully proved they could do that with Potter. I love Disney's Toy Storyland at the Studios however that lands latest 2 attractions lean more to an amusement park type addition than themepark. Both are cutely decorated much like Barnstormer but lack the builds to hide and theme over the superstructures.

Disney was slow to build both Avatarland and worse with FLE. In that same timeframe Uni Orlando moved far quicker with their new attractions and expansions along with adding many more resorts. I am however impressed with how quickly Disney built their Gondola transportation addition. Fixing the transportation on property is critical 'cause it fails to be reliable frequently with the buses and monorail.
That's because the people that design them were the best, highest paid people that were once the lead Imagineers at Disney. True until the "stock holders" quest for maximum profits made management downsize the payroll. They were pushed out and Universal picked them up. And now it is really starting to show.

One thing that I do believe is that Uni doesn't do it quicker it is just that we don't hear about it until it is much further in planning and design. Disney fans tend to start counting as soon as it becomes a rumor till it opens. Actual construction time is, from my limited observation, about the same.
