I guess I am going to have to take it to a computer person. What you are saying is more then likely the right thing, but, I am hopelessly lost when it comes to doing stuff like that. I have tried numerous times to download CCleaning and get nothing but an error message. I, after a suggestions from my IT son in law, bought malwarebytes Premium and have also been unable to download it... I get that same message with that one. The message isI would go into your control panel in the list of installed programs and look at everything you have installed on there. It's possible that you were installing something legit and then accidentally installed something else that wasn't supposed to go on there.
Get rid of any toolbars you might have on any of your browsers, as well as extensions. They will slow you down.
Stop using any Microsoft browsers. Internet Explorer is absolutely the worst. I don't trust Edge quite yet. Firefox and Chrome are good. Microsoft makes good programs otherwise, but they have not yet figured out how to make a secure browser.
After you run CCleaner and double check which programs you have installed on your PC, run Windows Defender again. Have it do the full scan. This will take a while.
The other thing I would check is the physical state of your PC. Make sure there's nothing around it, and check that it's not getting hot when it's slowing down. If it's noisy, that could be a symptom as well. A lot of people don't think about this, but your PC needs cleaning physically. You can take a can of compressed air to it (Best Buy carries this, though I usually check good ole Amazon) and get all the dust out. This is the ONLY way to get dust out of a computer. No dusters, vacuums, etc.
Generally, the useful life of a desktop is about five years; however, you can keep them going for longer. The good news is that, should you have to replace your computer, we're going into sales season. But you might be able to keep it going a bit longer.

I can't get a hold of anyone in Malware (the one I paid for) because they list the support on weekdays only. I'm afraid the by trying over and over I am probably making matters worse, so I will try again on Monday to contact them and if I can't I will probably scream and then figure out that my computer has indeed crapped the bed and start over. Thanks for your help though, if I knew what I was doing it might have worked.

Wish me luck. My father inlaw won't be able to get to our house for Thanksgiving. He's doing well but with his treatments car rides aren't fun. It should be interesting to figure out the logistics for what I have to cook and bring. My mother inlaw is doing the turkey but I have to do all the gf/df sides and pies.
