So, my two went trick or treating with friends tonight, and they said that most people they could see were home, but didn't answer the door. Some answered but didn't have candy....they got cough drops, one gave them a bag of candy to share in their group, one went to the store just to get candy for them because he felt bad he didn't have any. One person stopped their car to give them marshmallows, and DD said they had a toddler in the back that waved and said "Bye bye" when they drove off....apparently it was adorable. I actually had 3 groups of trick-or-treaters besides my kids' group!! That's never happened! And they all seemed so surprised that someone actually answered the door.

The first one is my two (obviously), the 2nd is my daughter, her best friend's little sister, whose face I didn't cover because you can't see her face through her zombie makeup anyway, the little sister's best friend, and 2 boys from DD's and her best friend's class at school. The 2 boys play fortnite with DD and her bestie....it's a good group of kids. The last one is DS and DD's best friend, who I didn't scribble out, again because of the zombie makeup. (which looked AMAZING...her face was unzipped halfway. Very cool.

Stuff like that never happened when I was in school. I hope the kid gets suspended or kicked out of school.
Oh, and community service.
Things were a bit more safer in my time in school, but what IamGroot! posted is nothing compared to what made the national news last week.

I am referring a 11 year girl and a 12 year girl at the same Florida Middle school got arrest last week. The two already got expulsion from School. The adults caught the two in girls bathroom before they found their first victim. What happened was the 2 girls watched scary movies and decided that they wanted to die and join Satan:jawdrop::eek:.

The adults found Pizza Cutter, Goblet, knife sharper, and knives on the two girls:jawdrop:. The knives founded included a carving knife. The girls were waiting for students to enter girls bathroom and attack them with knives. The 2 students wanted to more than stabbings and kill themselves, but I don't want to go farther into details.

Florida= 49 in education system
There are pretty dumb people that are not from Florida. I am bringing this up because early this year, I had to deal with a bank tell that can't figure out that 10 $20.00 bills equals $200.00:jawdrop:. I thought being strong in math would be a requirement for being a bank teller.

Also there was a person checking out that didn't know 18 times four equals 72:facepalm:. The check out person admitted that she's bad at math and that is scary. I call it scary because it would be tough for the check out person to give back proper change.

What I know is I read that people were complaining about my old high school having teachers that actually have their students do math on a calculator only.

I am a stickler towards math because I had math teachers that had students figure math problems out without using calculators. My parents didn't believe in have in my younger and use calculators unless the teacher makes it a requirement to bring to school.

People always been impressed by me using a sheet of paper doing math instead of calculator. I also balance my check book without using a calculator and the bank statement is the same as my checkbook.

@MinnieM123 I know you left for work but good luck today in the city

Thank you for that. I had to leave extra early this morning and take an alternate route (highway express bus) because I knew that the other way I go would be packed with people (revelers, in addition to the usual rush hour crowds). Wasn't thrilled about any of this. Highway was packed--took 70 minutes to get to the financial district where that bus pulls in.

From there, I walked up to one of the streets on the parade route, on my way to work. That was after 8:00, and already some people were parked out on (cold) sidewalks. I mean the parade wouldn't even start until 11 AM and it was way down at Fenway, to start. I can guarantee that the parade wouldn't even hit this area I was in until well after 12. Oh, tons of cops and barricades set up everywhere, too, for this thing. So glad I'm not a sports fan, but I suppose for the people who like this, it's good to see happy faces.

It's only going to get worse. Around here, someone told me yesterday that along with no longer teaching Cursive, they no longer make any attempt to teach spelling or grammar. In about 18 years there are going to a whole lot of semi-illiterate people floating around.

Yikes! :jawdrop: School-age kids having a psychotic break like that? That's scary.
