My two cents: I think the company for @93boomer 's hubs "might" not have been able to do that. The reason is because with an area with so much damage, and in such a fluid set of bad problems popping up--even if they tried to find a motel, etc. prior to the crews heading down there--the motels may not have any power once the guys got there.

It's only my hunch, but I'm thinking that in these types of crisis situations, the guys are probably more on their own to secure lodging wherever they can find it--and the location could even move a few times, while they're down there.

(My thought here is that you and I naturally tend to think of normal circumstances, where a company may send workers, executives, etc. to meetings out of state--and they line up hotels and transportation for them, ahead of time.)

You see, this is why I have so much respect for these crews that head out into post-storm devastated areas. They really have to deal with a lot. They work some very long, hard hours, in some tough weather extremes.
Points well taken.

You are absolutely right. Thank you for your support. I will pass it on. When you have hundreds of crews, they can’t get rooms ahead of time. DH says they just found out they have a room tonight in a different motel. I remember one storm when we first got married he had to sleep in this huge tent with a lot of other workers. They had traveling showers. It is really rough in storms like this. Gas was a problem today. They finally got a gas station up with a generator so the men could gas up. They sometimes travel 1 1/2 hours out of their staging area to put lines back up, then drive back that evening to get back so they can eat. Then see if they have a room for the night.
I have a lot of respect for all these men and women that leave their families for weeks to get the power back on for them.
Thanks for letting us know what really happens out there. I had no idea, but then I think and realize “well of course”. The whole infrastructure is messed up. More prayers to your dh and his coworkers. Hope they accomplish there job soon so they can get back home.

Been a blessed couple months for my DD.

Being sent first by her University to to attend a convention held at Disney and then scholarship’d to attend a Disney sponsored conference for data analytics. She is in Grad school for computer science engineering and her Heart` is on the analytics side. 2/3 of the conference was Disney employees from around the country. Guest speakers were famous people in related fields and works. Excellent keynote speakers.

Upon her return to work at the University yesterday her presence was requested about an hour away today to attend a special data meeting. The invite came to her directly by email and her boss knew nothing of it. Upon arrival she recognized a few of the 11 people, important University people. *thinking to herself why am I here* She then hears a familiar voice. Her former bosses boss and that lady liked her from the day she started in 2015. Apparently the woman heard through the grapevine that my DD was in a Masters program at a different University than where they work. The training session today was Google employees training the upper tier on data mining and analytics. The woman wanted my DD there to listen to what Google had to say. My DD has been promoted twice since hired and really within that department there is no where but her bosses job to advance to. She got the feeling today she is likely to get plucked to move up into the more elite end of the Univerity staff.

It’s been an awesome few weeks for her. I’m. Going to try and pull some of the conference photos. It was held in the Main Convention Center at the Contemporary and I’ll post a few in my trip report. After day one that evening they sent the attendees on a special adventure.
How wonderful for your daughter! Congrats on her great and continued success. You deserve a pat on the back as well. :)

Indeed!!!
I’m actually even ahead of schedule this week ...so far...!!! ;):)
But, this business is just so crazy-unpredictable...
Clients dreams vs. their budget realities, deciding whether or not to do an early elevation rendering before they even sign off on the floor plan, thus wasting time if they have major changes/revisions, etc., etc., etc.

As I’ve posted before, I have never liked puzzles...jigsaw, Rubics Cubes, wire, any kind of puzzle. But, what do I do for a living...? put 6-7 figure $$$$$$$ puzzles together every workday of my life...!!!!!!! :joyfull::hilarious:
But, these are fun and cool puzzles, that, so many of, I still drive by up in the hills on my way to and from the office every workday...many from as far back as the early 80’s...!!!!!!!:)
Apparently, I don’t have a problem with those kinds of “puzzles”...!!!!!!! :hilarious:;):)

Simple, really . . . you like the puzzles you get paid to solve! :joyfull:

Pretty cool to drive by those homes and know that you designed them. :)

Yes, kudos to all of them.

This reminded me of a discussion we had in a restaurant that we go to, every Friday night. (We know the owners and all the staff.) I recall some years back, when there were some very bad ice storms and lots of damage to power lines (weight of ice, and also many broken, heavy tree branches all over). During the storms, this was one of the few restaurants open.

Some of the crews would go there to get hot food, and try to warm up for a while--and then go right back out there to work. They were working in some frigid temperatures outdoors all day long (and some into the evenings), didn't have enough sleep, and were battle worn. The restaurant owner was so impressed that he even gave them some food to go (gratis), as he wanted to show his support for all they were doing for the community.
