Yeah, I try to make that argument. We have a good deal here though.
Well, I suppose you are in an area with a higher percentage of Lutheran churches than other parts of the country....a lot of Germans in Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota, etc. Just out of curiosity, which synod is your DH? But we used to go to church every sunday, even on vacation, so I'm pretty sure Florida has Lutheran churches, too. :P Does your husband like that area because it's close to the family? Is that maybe why he doesn't want to leave?

Does his school not allow for courses at Community College? The nice thing about that is the extra courses are all college credit
That would involve even more transporting of him. His current ride is an hour each way. Believe it or not this may be the least of my headaches with the courses he wants to take before graduation. He's also planning on spending some time at the grandmas during the school year which he can't do going to a regular classroom. His class can be mobile:D

DS had his first day of school today....my baby is in 6th grade. He said he had a great day. They mostly just went around the room and told the class what they did in the summer vacation and they watched a movie, and they went over the rules.
DD starts tomorrow and says she is no way going to let me take a picture. I told her some day she's going to want to see what she looked like on her first day of junior high....she says no she won't because she's going to look silly. I said "Why? You going in your PJs?" and she said yes.
I'm glad I don't have a picture of my first day of junior high because I looked ridiculous and I was traumatized. My mother insisted that I could not wear jeans to school on the first day because I would be meeting my teachers for the first time and needed to make a good impression. She wanted me to wear a dress, but I knew NO ONE would be wearing a dress (I was right) so she said I could wear dress slacks. But the only slacks I had were hand-me-downs from a friend's daughter and they were a few sizes too big and they were bright yellow, and then I had a yellow and white striped button-down shirt, also too big, to match. I looked like a circus clown and I was laughed at the whole day because I was the only kid who was not wearing jeans, and I looked like a clown. I'm not even telling DD what to wear and she won't let me take a picture. :( Maybe her best friend's mom will insist on taking a picture of all them together.....they have a whole group doing the dual immersion program and they are all riding their bikes together and meeting at the best friend's house. She might be more receptive to another mom asking.

Yes, our area has a lot of Germans and Scandinavians, so that leads to a large amount of Lutherans. We are ELCA, and we have looked into Florida and there are some ELCA churches. Family isn't necessarily a leading factor because my sister plans to move to Florida in the next couple of years, my dad already lives there and we only see his family at Christmas really. He (and I for the most part) just likes the area we live in. It is nice to have seasons, our area is fairly safe, and the cost of living is lower. And I'm fairly frugal so I don't mind living somewhere cheaper! And he really enjoys the church he is in and there is still a lot he wants to do with this congregation and that they want to do with him. I think I mostly want to move to be closer to Disney, but there is no guarantee of a good paying job there. I think as we get closer to retirement, it will be something that becomes more of a reality.:)

I'm glad your son had a good day at school. I hope it continues to be a good year for him. Good luck to your daughter in junior high! Sounds like she is being a typical tween/teen with the picture refusal. ;)

That was a short vacation for the kids.
Sympathy like on your junior high clothing fiasco.

Ha! I agree!

His response is: Florida: hurricanes, alligators, poisonous snakes
California: wildfires, landslides, earthquakes :cautious:
We are safe where we are from natural disasters and it is a safe place for kids to be raised. Cost of living is low as well. My house an hour closer to DC would be a million dollars. Cost of living in FL has gone up the last couple of years. We went to look at houses outside Disney 2 years ago and a KB Home in Windermere was selling for over 600k. They have had a housing boom after the crash.
