Yes! He hates food photos.. he followed up the double seafood appetizer with an entree of salmon, as on most nights, but typically sans sushi.

I finally snuck a quick pic!

Then he covered up his chocolate lava cake..

I understand that, however, the old mission was not working and no one ever got to see the Norway for what it was because, well, it was dull. At least this put people in the pavilion and brought a little life into a concept that, in my opinion, had run it's course. Since Norway wasn't interested in helping promote Norway and the buildings and concept were already in place then all that happened was a renewed interest in the area and people able to see what was left of the Norway experience.

The entire "Worlds Fair" concept went out with the introduction of the Internet. Everything that one possibly would care to know about any nation is right at our fingertips. There was no need to go outside our homes to explore the cultures because it was right there in our computers. It did, however, need something to entertain, in a less then classroom fashion, and draw people in to enjoy the show. In my opinion we will be seeing a lot more of that in World Showcase. They had to do something before they had to change the name to Restaurant Showcase. They have already made the change with Mexico and Norway while American Adventure and Canada started out and remained entertaining. There was a need to attach a defibrillator to the rest of the places and put new life into them, or they were just going to die. Yes, Epcot's mission statement has changed over the years and for some of us, not for the better, but, it seriously is a small group that really think that the old way was going to survive. As much as I enjoyed the beginning years of EPCOT, it no longer was something I spent any time in after I had seen the few shows that interested me. I can't begin to tell you how many pavilions that I just walked on by because they were all commercialized, especially Japan, and of no interest to me. What always seemed ironic to me was that the last actual Worlds Fair that I went to was in Japan in 1970 and that was great.
Japan is mostly a big store and some restaurants. They do have a nice walk through display area in the back outside the Mitsukoshi store. It is sort of hidden. It describes "The Root of Cute". Kawaii. The movement of cuteness with toys like Hello Kitty and cute products they have in their homes. It was interesting to walk through that area. I have some pictures on my phone that I will upload. You are right though in that pretty much that is a very commercialized area. You have to look for the education value, but it is there.

Would you believe?... that those are mine as well. Is Get Smart on any cable channel? If so, I missed it by that much.
I watched that show on reruns. I usually caught it when I was home from school sick because the shows from the 60's got played during the daytime on a local channel. I think it was Get Smart and That Girl back to back.

My yellow lab was classified as a giant longer and taller than most. 100# of happy pup. I had him at six weeks and was trained to walk at my left side by 8 weeks. Given my small size I had to train him to listen or it was all over. His brain only turned to Jello if the man across the road from me was outside then Walters brain turned to Jello if the dude was 6’4” and encouraged that. I still miss him a lot. Howled at all sirens

He knew how to walk himself.

He’d just go off and visit people on walks. A people pup.

Thanks for posting! I had no idea this was there. I’ve never spent much time in that pavilion at all. I’ll have to check it out next time.

That Girl was a good show too. I remember watching Donna Reed and the Patty Duke Show on reruns too, those were fun. I too also liked the D. Van Dy. Ke show.

I love these as well as the ones @ajrwdwgirl mentioned, and I’ll add The Patty Duke Show. I remember watching all of them on Nick at Night when I was younger.

I just posted about that one too. We didn’t get cable until I was in high school but whenever we went on vacation always had cable and my parents put on Nick at Night, they sure ran some great shows back then.

We had cable, but my mom had MTV blocked sometime in the 80s, after she caught me watching an “inappropriate” Madonna video. Luckily we did have HBO as Fraggle Rock was my favorite cartoon.. but it blows my mind to think about how much television has changed since then. I have parental controls blocking so many channels now. MTV back then would be ABC daytime these days.
