I thought that the "Sunken Gardens" had gone the way of the dinosaur. My wife and I went there with the kids in the mid-80's during one of our mid-winter treks to Florida (most days at WDW and random side trips) Glad to hear that it still exists. I remember it, just vaguely, but, I have no negative thoughts about it. That, of course, was along with a side trip to Cyprus Gardens which was much more spectacular, in my mind, but, just couldn't sustain itself.

The history behind Subken Gardens is really cool it started with just one guy building a nice garden in 1903 and continued on. Today it is a historic landmark and the city owns it so it will be protected. I remember going to Cypress Gardens as a kid and it was pretty but as a kid I wasn’t too interested in Gardens but the water ski show was cool.

How are you feeling by the way? Better I hope.

The news this morning recommended not even going outside, so.... proof that YOU'RE the crazy one, not us snow lovers :hilarious::hilarious::hilarious:
Those of us that hate winter are also smart enough to have central air conditioning. Constant hydration is not necessary if you are not sweating. So who's crazy now? Those of us that have adapted to warm weather or those the freeze their buttocks off in the winter and sweat to death all summer. Never mind... I think I know the answer to that.

If you're sitting inside in the AC you're A) Not actually adapted to warm weather, and B) missing the best parts of the sunny weather by not getting outdoors.

I would rather bundle up in the winter and get outdoors and sweat my buttocks off in the summer and get outdoors, than stay anywhere with AC all day long :)

Aren't you two discussing "the extremes" of the spectrum? Isn't there any middle ground?

I can see that one might think that, but, I can assure you that I do not spend all day inside, but, I have access to constant cooling places and utilize them to keep my equilibrium, well, equal. I remember when I moved here a little over 7 years ago, from Vermont. I thought I was going to die from the heat, even with central air, but, my body adapted to it to the point where it really isn't that much of a problem anymore. I do things before noon and after 5 o'clock that require outdoor stuff, but, I am still out and about even during the hottest part of the day. (Car has AC too) In other words, I wouldn't dream of playing golf in the middle of the day, but, those that were born here seem to think that is the perfect time, so golf courses are pretty quiet in the morning.

I found it easier to adapt to the heat (took about 2 years) then the cold. I gave that 63 years and never could feel comfortable in freezing temperatures. But, to each his own. I can very honestly say that I would never move back north for any reason.

The zoo is like that too. Like the only time it's even manageable temperature wise is in the morning, but the crowds still surge during the hottest part of the day. We went yesterday and when we got there it was about 77* and when we left two hours later it was pushing 90* and the parking lot was getting packed. Like, who chooses to walk around a zoo in 90* over 77*?!?!

Never could figure that out, but, it is a common thing at least here in NC. Nothing seems to happen before 10 am. For me that is like having half the day wasted. I'm not young, but, many folks my age seem to be more affected by the cold then the heat. Some only like to be out when it is in the upper 90's and matching humidity. Not me and that is the very reason why, even now, when I go to Florida it is usually in February.

I miss NC. I feel like the heat of the summer was so much more bearable there. More trees and shade, I think. Although it did get so hot that we caught the range on fire almost every time we went shooting at Bragg, LOL

Fun day today, went over to St. Petersburg Fl and went to Sunken Gardens and a county park to see gators. Only saw one gator and it was brief, he dove underwater before I could get a picture. The gardens were gorgeous and we finished the day with sunset on the balcony and ice cream at a place called the candy palace.

Thanks for the pictures, and the armchair vacation. It looks like you are having a great time.

Good morning, everybody! Hope everyone enjoyed Fathers Day. My "little" brother and his wife were exploring Chicago this weekend, and stopped for a visit on their way back. It was so nice to see them.

The food was pretty good, too, if I may say so, myself. Pulled brisket sandwiches and rhubarb upside down cake, just like mom used to make.

THNX yes they are. Winter screwed up the strawberries as they are smaller this year and the season will be a bit shorter but the prediction for blueberries is bumper crop:joyfull: Works for me and work for the boys;)
Our strawberries and our neighbors were so not as good as last years. I just was talking with her across the fence and got a better look at her garden. Her pepper plants and zucchini look great. She even had a full grown cucumber. Some of her tomatoes were turning red as well. We planted late and we'll see what happens. Our blueberry bushes actually do have a lot of blueberries this year as well.

I concur. It is much easier to cool off than it is to warm up, the reason my hands are perpetually cold in the winter. In this weather they are always nice and warm.
