I made a sugar free milkshake today. I forgot I had frozen bananas in the freezer and needed a chocolate fix. I can’t have any added sugar right now so I took a banana, just 1 cause I cannot have too much fruit either, added some unsweetened almond milk, and a tablespoon of raw cacao powder. It was sooooo good. I think that is something I can enjoy once a week. I thought to add another time some almond butter and hemp seeds @figmentfan423 for the extra protein another time.

BTW, this is at the local VFW hall. The population of my pops hometown is currently about 1800.

The smoker shed...

image.jpeg

That flatbed trailer in the foreground was full of mesquite wood when they showed up at 6a to start gettin' the coals ready to go into the smokers.

The rack in this next pic is where they start the coals. As the wood burns, the coals fall through to the ground. Then they scoop them up with shovels and feed them into the smokers to slowly smoke the meats...!!!!! :hungry:

image.jpeg

DDs having fun with the swings...and no, oldest DD didn't go on...!!! ;)

image.jpeg

Oldest DD and SonIL...that Live Oak tree in the background is around 300 years old, as are some of the others in the 2 previous pics.

image.jpeg

Some pics from the family farm...

The oil well...

image.jpeg

Pop and the old house with the cistern next to the kitchen. The house hasn't been lived in since my grandfather passed in '78 and my grandmother moved into town 7 miles away. And yes, that is a palm tree on the upper right. There's another one next to it to the left hidden by what's left of the house...both have been there since I can remember...!!!!!!! :joyfull:

image.jpeg

Mom checkin' things out...

image.jpeg

Our old camper that I've posted about many times before. One of my cousins used it for a while, and the "retired" it here.

image.jpeg

The old washhouse with what's left of the old smokehouse partially visible on the far left...

image.jpeg

And, some great grandkids/grandkids, and SonIL, on hay...!!!!!!! :joyfull: :hilarious: ;) :)

image.jpeg

The farm part of the day kinda' reminded me of the 1985 movie "The Trip to Bountiful"...!!!!!!! ;) :)

We stopped at Target yesterday with the sole intention of buying the Black Mickey Dog bed that was in the ads we found some other stuff we liked but we both agreed that it was fluff stuff that we might get if we bought the dog bed. Alas, the Target was sold out of the dog beds so we walked out of there without buying anything! I was proud of us.

That's very good. I also went to Target yesterday for laundry detergent, which I bought.

Along the way to the Tide aisle . . . :cautious: I saw some blue chips and jars of salsa -- into the cart. Went a bit further and saw Pepperidge Farm Milano cookies -- into the cart. Passed by the frozen aisle and saw Ben & Jerry's chunky monkey ice cream -- into the cart. Got up to register and saw Doritos at the check-out -- into the cart.

OMG! I looked at all that food cooking on the grill/smoker and all I could think of was my small, Weber grill that might hold up to 6 pieces of chicken only! :p Then, I saw all the photos of the rellies and all the long tables in that big function room. Is your dad's side of the family, the entire state of Texas? :D

I thought this was kind of funny, found Kapono sleeping on the floor holding her bone next to a toy and hub’s icky socks. She is zonked our and still like this.

Great balancing act with the bone! :joyfull: As for the toy and sock nearby, that's like something Jack would do, too. And the more chewed up, dirty and disgusting--the more he likes them! :p

You are correct. How hard can it be? Have you made it? I actually looked on a site how to make fermented cabbage, it is not pickled as there is no vinegar(learn something new everyday), and it says you need to pound the cabbage layer by layer to release its juices?
Sounds like something from The Half-Blood Prince’s potions book. ;)
I've done cabbage that way. I shred and the I put rubber globes on the boys to mush it up. This year I'm going to try doing cucumbers. Something tells me Mr Google will be my friend.
