We had a sewing store around here for some years, and they had lessons. Unfortunately, the store couldn't stay afloat, and closed. There's nothing like that around here anymore. I used to know a lot more people that sewed years ago. I learned in high school and could sew seams, etc. Nothing fancy, but I could sew some basic things and do repairs.

My sewing machine at home has been in a box now for probably 13 years.
My parents know how to sew.

I took Home Economics and Shop class back when I was in middle school. It did include sewing in the Home Economic class. Another student had to sew boxing shorts for me because I suck so bad with my hands and the teacher knew it. My hands were better for cooking. She knew I was bad with my hands, but can do stuff like making balls with cookie dough.

I was introduced to video games as a kid for improving my extremely lousy hand ordination. When it comes to doing some stuff, my hands are not designed for to say the least.

The shop class in question was for teaching students to do stuff like making napkin holders and other stuff out of wood.

I'm a big fan of practical classes. I realize the importance of academic studies, but I do with that more emphasis was also placed on basic skills learning as well.

@ajrwdwgirl , I thought of you when I saw a news clip this morning. Apparently, there's a guy (Patric Richardson, The Laundry Evangelist) out in your neck of the woods, and he gives stain removal "laundry camp" demos at the Mall of America. He's got all kinds of ways to remove any kind of stain at all, and he uses only natural ingredients such as white vinegar, and other common, household items.

What struck me funny was just how mesmerized the audience (male and female) were, hanging on to his every word! But considering most of us don't know much about different stains and how to safely remove them from any fabric, I can see where he could really hold the crowd's interest.

I don't think I've ever heard of that guy, or seen him while at the Mall. I have seen the my pillow guy though.

Assuming, of course, that group of people give a tick about getting stains out of fabric. I'm pretty sure after a cursory look see, it would be finding my way to some other spot. But, that may just be me!

$200 was the low end, some girls I talked to were looking at $400 or more. My wedding dress wasn't even $400.
My wedding dress was $400. It was the 2nd I tried on. I was so proud of myself because I also bought it during no tax week in NY. It was empire waisted, satin, had macrame on the bodice. Simple, elegant, classic, and inexpensive. I could never justify a huge price for a dress I would wear once.

Texas has tigers that are wild? Or do people keep them as pets? Weird.

The latter.
There are plenty in zoos as well, of course, but, the vast majority are privately-owned pets.
We do have indigenous mountain lions/wild cats, bobcats, etc.
I recently heard on the news that at least 2 of the former were reported recently a few times near a hiking trail in the Wimberly (I think?) area of the Hill Country.
Also, we even have black bear in various areas across the state.

I wish I would have been more friendly with coworkers and employees when I was in my 20s. I didn’t have lunch with them, I didn’t have after work drinks with them.. I wanted to keep such a professional relationship at all times.. because I felt like being social with them would lesson their respect for me..basically had a chip on my shoulder. I regret it. I’m friendly with the people I work with now, and we’ve had some good times together. I shouldn’t have waited until my late 30s to do that. So... basically Good Job to You! :)

At the firm I worked for in my early to mid-20's, we went out to 2 margarita lunches a coupla' times a week or so, and anywhere from about 2-4 happy hours a week. We (gals and guys) were all within a few years age-wise of each other, and it was the 80's...!!!!!!! :hilarious:
